    • @mop1471

      MXZ Sport: That's a nice machine! You're going to love it next winter!
      Mine has been great so far. I had one warranty repair: my son came home from a ride and told me the emergency stop switch (kill switch) broke off. Switch still worked, but the red cap was missing. Dealer replaced under warranty. It's entirely possible this was caused more by youthful exuberance than by defective parts.
      In low-snow conditions, the Expedition can overheat. That's why I did the ice-scratcher videos. Ice scratchers help a lot, but the sled still needs a cool-down break if it's been running in extremely low snow for extended periods. Don't panic: this occurred about 3 times in 1,300 kms. Besides, your MXZ is a lot lighter than the Expedition, so it may never happen to you at all!
      Finally, there is a recall on some 600 EFIs. Fix is an ECU re-flash and a new hood vent. Your BRP dealer will take care of this at no cost to you.

    Thanks for sharing this video. I just picked up a Ski-Doo Renegade Enduro 900 Ace. Before you rolled yours onto its side had you already drained the gas tank? Or will it not spill out on its side? I noticed you said you fill your tank before storage so I assumed it was empty prior to you rolling it over.

    • @mop1471
      @mop1471  Před 3 lety +3

      The 600 EFI is completely sealed. No fuel, oil, coolant or other fluid leaks when I lay it on its side. Your 4-stroke has oil in the engine, and my understanding is that you need to stand it back up and let it sit awhile for the oil to drip back down into the pan before you start it (but I don't have a 4-stroke, so double-check with your dealer.)
      I've laid the Expedition on its side several times. Sometimes for service, sometimes because I thought I could 'carve' some powder! It's never had a problem with it. Doesn't even stall the engine.

    Have you been informed of the recall on the 600 EFI. I am curious what the dealers will do for replacement parts.
    SAFETY RECALL NOTICE
    Subject: Vent Grill Melting- Potential Fire Hazard
    Dear Ski-Doo® Owner,
    BRP is conducting a safety recall on certain Ski-Doo models.
    BRP has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on certain Ski-Doo models and is conducting a safety recall. BRP has reported this matter to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.
    Our records show that you own a potentially affected vehicle.
    What is the potential problem?
    On models equipped with a 600 EFI engine, in some specific riding conditions, a high heat could develop in the muffler causing the upper right hand vent grill to melt. In some situations, fire could occur. This could result in serious property damages, injuries or even death.
    Which models are involved?
    Model year 2021 and some specific serial numbers for model year 2022 Ski-Doo models equipped with 600 EFI engines.
    What will BRP do?
    BRP will repair your vehicle free of charge.
    What should you do?
    BRP recommends to avoid driving your vehicle but if you must use it, be sure to not go over 7200 RPM.
    Please contact your BRP Ski-Doo dealer and make an appointment. Your dealer will perform the repair procedure.
    The presence of aftermarket modifications will not prevent you from receiving this service at no cost. The presence of these modifications, while the service is being completed, will not void any existing warranty or service contract.
    What to do if you feel this notice is an error?
    This notice was mailed to you according to the most current information we have available. If you no longer own this vehicle or some information in this notice is incorrect, please contact BRP at your earliest convenience.

    • @mop1471
      @mop1471  Před 2 lety +1

      I see where you’re coming from, but the 600EFI is substantially less expensive than an E-TEC. So, it doesn’t have the E-TEC’s features and performance. In the Expedition lineup, the 600EFI retailed for $10,400 (and my dealer even gave me $750 in accessories at no extra cost!) To get a 600 E-TEC meant upgrading to the Expedition LE, which retailed for over $15,000.
      I recognize that the Expedition LE offers far more power and many, many additional features over the Sport 600EFI, but I’m just not sure they’ll add $5,000 in value to my snowmobiling experience.
      Personally, I’m willing to spend an hour putting my sled away every spring to keep $5,000 in my pocket.

      For the price of these machines and the technology that's out there they could have done better...

    • @mop1471
      @mop1471  Před 2 lety +1

      I’m not certain, but I think your E-TEC has computer controlled oil injection while my 600EFI has a [cheaper] mechanical oil pump. This is why my 600EFI can’t fog itself while your E-TEC can. TBH, I was pretty disappointed to find out I couldn’t fog the engine with a button press.
      The rest of the maintenance items, like inspecting wear components, lubricating suspension and whatnot, I would expect to be the same between our sleds.
      Last spring, maintenance and filming took me about 3hrs, but filming at least doubles the time it takes to do these jobs (moving cameras & tripods / oops, didn’t get the shot, have to do that step again / camera battery died, where’s my spare? / etc…)
      Could Ski-Doo have done better? Probably. But the Sport 600EFI machines are built to a value price point and Ski-Doo has to make sure they don’t reduce sales of their premium sleds by making the Sport 600EFI too good. Overall, I maintain that the Sport 600EFI lineup is excellent value.

      In the past, I've put vehicles away for the season with the intent of just starting them periodically. But, I've found that I forget, or don't have time to get to them. Now, I appreciate spending an hour on maintenance, then tucking it away and forgetting about it. I also like inspecting the wear items and making sure everything will be reliable for the season.

      Running the engine regularly during the off-season is probably a reasonable solution. I've done it in the past with other vehicles. And regardless, the machine still needs to be cleaned, inspected for damage and suspension lubricated.
      All of the consumables used in this maintenance would total about $60, if you buy the BRP XPS stuff and buy it all at once. Each package has enough product to last 5-6 years, so we're looking at about $10/year in consumables to maintain a $10k machine. If that's a money grab, then they're doing it wrong!
