Spent a week in Belgium during August and rode these trains a lot. As a regular rider of New Jersey Transit commuter rail here in the states, Belgium Rail is a far more pleasant experience. (Not to mention, I miss being in Belgium)
I do love riding these, always quiet and peaceful no matter the speed of the train. Very cozy!
That was really amazing how quiet that coach was inside. And how loud it was outside the doors. Those insulation in the glass doors must be great.
6:40 The sensor is working perfectly. You hear the click. But there wasn't any more water in the tank, I think. So water isn't coming because no water is there.
Yup ur right
I love these double-decker train cars 🥰, always enough empty seats even in busy hours.
When you're Belgian and you know that actually Belgium invests much more in company-owned cars than in trains. And that's a fact ! But our train network isn't that bad when compared to other countries. Sure it's not perfect unlike Japanese or Swiss trains, or nearly as good as German, Dutch or Austrian trains, but it's still good when compared to France outside of Paris and the TGV lines, Italia, Greece or even the UK.
I hear the trains in the UK suck real bad
I guess you've never used German trains cause they aren't good at all
1 word do describe german trains as a german dude: DELAY ;)
@@drumpuppy2000 I already did but just twice around Aachen (once in 2018 and once last sunday, 6th Dec.)
An amazing trip would be Oostende - Eupen. This is a journey from the coast of Belgium down to the southern german speaking part of Belgium. Takes 3 hours and it's the wonderful I10 stock, but do it soon because there are plans to replace it with the upcoming M7 in the future!
The I10 stock is beautiful indeed
When do they get replaced?
@@Rainbowroad12345 M7 Have power outlets, more comfort, more accessibility, more capacity.
Tecmons I asked when, not why 😉
The Liège-Verviers part of that trip is one of the most beautiful rail lines of Belgium
00:58
It's funny you say that, because in Belgium everyone complains about the lack of investements in our infrastructure and fleet...
08:04
Just like they always seem to disagree with that statement to.
Ben Vangenechten i was thinking the same thing
true but it's also good to be remembered that the grass is not always greener in the nieghbour's backyard :) Rail is not perfect in Belgium and there is still a lot to do but it's not that bad.
Philippe Legrain My two cents: taking the train in Belgium is ok, except during rush hour.
totally agrees.,.
It's like a miracle when they're bang on time
and investments, especially under N-VA, have been dropping a lot.,.
@@chiisuigintou you do realise the railways are a federal responsibility and N-VA isn't in the federal government (and hasn't been for several years). Also: the Fyra fiasco really set us back.
And yeah, there are problems with timelyness and cancellations in rush hour on some lines. That said, there are also a lot of people who insist on living somewhere out of the way and cheap, far from where they actually work, and expect the NMBS/SNCB to make up for that with flawless service. More than 95% of trains run on time.
Check the SNCB M7 coaches, they reallt updated the 1st class coaches again :) You should also try an AM96 or a I11 coach, exquisite 1st class product 😄
FINALLY a NMBS tripreport
The new M7 cars will be in service in a few months normally, test trains can be seen when you take often the train. While the 2nd class will be similar to the M6 (with more plug sockets), the 1st class will actually feel like a real 1st class. They will be available both as locomotive-hauled and EMU. Also there will be screens and automated announcements like in the Desiro's, while the M6, built in 2000, only have LED boards and conductor-spoken announcements. Also the M7 coaches will be able to be mixed with M6 and I11 coaches in the same train consist.
imaginox9 true
Everything you told was true, there are in service now and I could test them for a 2h45 journey. They are really good and comfortable. The livery with the big numbers is beautiful
Nice looking coaches! I also like where you can add cars for busier times...The ride looked pretty good too. !
Thank you for sharing !!! :):):)
Another great video !!
Its weird that the journey was 38 minutes. I sometimes take this route and the fastest connection is 26 minutes. Maybe your train stopped in more stations.
I think he probably passed trough Vilvoorde Station because if he toke the high-speed line at the E19 highway (Airport route) then it would be the fastest like you said and will take like 25 min to reach brussel while in vilvoorde the train drives slower.
@@blackmercury956 He took one that continued to Charleroi so it's one that only stops in Mechelen between Antwerp-Berchem and Brussel-North. Take in mind that line 0 (North-South in Brussels- takes up 15 more minutes.
It's actually very strange, but it's like foreigners are more positive about our trains than Belgians themself. Thx for being so kind about our trains and their network. It's isn't sooooo good as Swiss ones or german ones, but they are really ok for such a small country. Tip: Go to the Verviers and take the train to Spa/Spa géronstere, also a nice town with a big history. SNCB uses nice trains on this line (idk the name of them) and you also get a beautiful landscape for the same price!
Yep, it's because many users of their own national system don't travel abroad to see what it's like. You can be proud of SNCB they are doing a good job.
M8 coaches are great. Choose the upper deck for the scenery, but if you want to take a nap the straight windows of the lower deck are better to rest your head ;) My opinion is that there no real need for first class in Belgian national trains because the longest trip you can take is about 2h30 tops. That would leave some more room for.everynody else
The longest train ride is 3h beetween Eupen and Oostende and Brussels and Luxembourg City
Nice video Sir. I hope very soon trains in Europe will launch overnight trains like these
Very Good Video 👍 😉
Very nice video!!!
If you're ever in Toronto you will have to check out the GO trains here. I use them to get out of the city when visiting family. Very handy, and I think reasonably priced.
Nice NMBS report
More sncb vid!!!
Very good vid btw ;)
fun fact, in mechelen on the platforms with the higher numbers you're able to see one of the biggest plants that the nmbs/sncb has. It's mainly for big reworks and work on every passenger couch and motor vehicle that is used by the nmbs/sncb.
Very good vodeo!!!
Speaking of the AM96 the Oostende Train is Combined with the Antwerp Lille train. The other route is Lille-Liege this is due to AM96 441-490 being 3kv 25kv
Nice!
Nice
I take this every vacation
Hey you also should do Genk- Blankenberge. From a city really close to the Netherlands all the way to the sea!
One thing I notice in these videos: there're less ロングシート in European and North American suburban trains.
This is the first video I saw a compartment all composed by ロングシート
Is it possible to make seperate playlists on your channel like: trip reports Belgium, trip reports France etc. I really love to see these video's and it would make it easier to navigate trough them 😃
The first train line on the Europe mainland
Did you know that the first train ride on the European mainland took place in Belgium? On 5 May 1835 the very first train to travel on the European mainland departed from Brussels. It's was heading for Mechelen, 22 km away. Despite ceremoniously opening the railway track, King Leopold I was not allowed to climb aboard.
New: NMBS (or SNCB, if you like french) has new M7 coaches! They look like the M6, but have more capacity, and they are better if you want to take your bike on the train.
my life on belguim come to leopoldsburg there are more sncb trains plz!!!
it looks outdated because the SNCB has had major funding cuts over the years. Prices have gone up for us as well since i first took the train.
And we aren't really allowed to take bikes on the train, unless you pay a big fee :(
also there was a bigger toilet at the 'bike deck'
Prices are pretty cheap... compare our public transport to other countries, you will stop complain directly...
I don't like face to face seating, thats the problem with SNCB
Great video as always
There are seats that arent face to face.
SNCB do go to the limits sometimes,i have seen quad desiro and quad AM96 before
yes, you are on a station with 500 people you see the desiro ant think aaaa schit and than you see its suuuuuuper long
Nice review. This is the train I always take, together with the Siemens cars for shorter rides (You probably reviewed them as well, I'll look for it next).
During rush hours these cars are very busy. Pre corona they were completely full at times, with people staying back to back at the doors and in the corridors. Pretty awful. After corona it became better and you have at least a seat most of the time.
The trains can be clearn, but somtetimes very dirty. It depends if they ahve been cleaned recently. The situation is worse on older trains on less busy routes. There the situation can be filthy. Also, the outside is often sprayed with tags.
Toilets are often incredibly dirty. You were lucky.
The ride between Mechelen normally is 15-20 minutes. Antwerp-Brussels is 35-45 minutes. Something must have been wrong, I think.
1st class shuld be abolished in favour of more general seats. Nobody cares about first class over here.
The two platforms that are under construction in your video have opend in december 2020
You think the toilets are a little small?! You should see te toilets in our Desiro trains! They are so big I get agoraphobia in them. I like my toilets small. 😞
The new train station in Mechelen will be impressive: www.mecheleninbeweging.be/2-uncategorised/345-plannen-voor-nieuw-station-liggen-ter-inzage.html
"We arrived on time like most of the time"😅 well look like you've been lucky all the time, train are 80% always late here in Belgium
Frédéric Leroy not true
I take them every day, everybody complain about trains being late everyday
80% late?? No fucking way. People in all countries love complaining about their trains being "the worst", but Belgium has an amazing railway network so please stop. Come to southern Europe and you will see...
Timo Bergmann what he is saying is true!
osasunaitor trains in Belgium are always late it’s the true!
Good trip report mate! Those coaches look way better than the VIRM in the Netherlands. Would you also like to try the Desiro?
Do am08 next
Could you do a review on the Deutsche Bahn ICE
Ryan Ebbefeld It’d be delayed, lol.
if you want to go old-school, do an trip review on the 4100 series from NMBS ;)
4100 isn't 'old school'. They're literally two years older than the M6...
@@nicov1837 It's a big fat diesle that's old school
I BELGIAN
They are push pull coaches (don't write non automative= EMUs)
Mons station also looked promising... now look at the mess
These double decker trains are good for very busy routes avd the seating looks comfortable top however I don't see the point of having first class on those of it looks mostly the same 😐
Belgian railways aren't frequent at all, most lines only operate hourly, only between the very big cities there is frequent service. Even a bunch of stations in Brussels only get one or two trains an hour. - But maybe that's me, I am dutch and over here finding a line less frequent then twice an hour on local lines and four times on express lines isn't easy.
Dutch railways are also much more expensive
Do you have any data to support this? Some rough calculations on my end show that at least the base fare should be pretty comparable.
@@AutoGamerZ_ I compared the route Brussels-Antwerp Central to the route Amsterdam central- Rotterdam Central. Ns is twice as expensive.
@BelgianFries
Brussels-Antwerp Central is roughly 40km
Rotterdam-Amsterdam is roughly 60km and the main travel advice gives you a track via the semi-highspeed IC Direct, which charges an extra fee (Similarly to how the Thalys is a lot more expensive then normal trains between Brussels and Antwerp), over the normal route without extra fee the cost/distance is virtually identical.
@@AutoGamerZ_ True, but the highspeed track isn't really highspeed when you use IC material. The train between Antwerp and Brussels rides just as fast. I can imagine that Rotterdam-Amsterdam is a busy traject, is it even possible to not go on the higherspeedline, without stopping everywhere?
My train aint like that in my region ! they'r old, creepy and dirty. Give me that train or riot >=O
I'd like to hear you discription of a creepy toilet xp
Belgian trains are modern. The staff is professional and gives great services. But the train are always late... Why is that we have to deal with it all the time ? Japan has solved this issue long ago.
I have been at Gand this summer and i tried this coach. I liked them a lot. I was just disappointed by the fact that seats are not reserved unlike other intercity trains in Europe, and from Bruxelles to Gand i did half of the journey standing
Shorter distances mean seat reservation would waste a lot of money and time. If you want a (near) guaranteed seat travel 1 st class, they put at least 50% more first class capacity on all lines that have 1st class then is expected to be used.
Keep in mind that Belgium is so small you could say intercity trains would be regional trains in other countries.
Ooh that sound of all those squeaky seats. Hate it. But that's the only downside, they're brilliant coaches.
I honestly can't tell if you were being sarcastic or not.
When ?

1:00 double gauge in the right side
That's not double gauge
Not sure what it is exactly but no trains of different gauges use Mechelen and there's no infrastructure there for double gauge operation.
It's not double gauge, there are only standard gauge in Belgium. That's probably an old track that was just replaced but the working team didn't have time to take it off before the first train came.
The overly fluid camera movement and crisp sounds trigger me for some reason lmao
Trigger you to do what?! 😀
