Spent a week in Belgium during August and rode these trains a lot. As a regular rider of New Jersey Transit commuter rail here in the states, Belgium Rail is a far more pleasant experience. (Not to mention, I miss being in Belgium)

When you're Belgian and you know that actually Belgium invests much more in company-owned cars than in trains. And that's a fact ! But our train network isn't that bad when compared to other countries. Sure it's not perfect unlike Japanese or Swiss trains, or nearly as good as German, Dutch or Austrian trains, but it's still good when compared to France outside of Paris and the TGV lines, Italia, Greece or even the UK.

While the 2nd class will be similar to the M6 (with more plug sockets), the 1st class will actually feel like a real 1st class. They will be available both as locomotive-hauled and EMU. Also there will be screens and automated announcements like in the Desiro's, while the M6, built in 2000, only have LED boards and conductor-spoken announcements. Also the M7 coaches will be able to be mixed with M6 and I11 coaches in the same train consist.

Nice review. This is the train I always take, together with the Siemens cars for shorter rides (You probably reviewed them as well, I'll look for it next).
During rush hours these cars are very busy. Pre corona they were completely full at times, with people staying back to back at the doors and in the corridors. Pretty awful. After corona it became better and you have at least a seat most of the time.
The trains can be clearn, but somtetimes very dirty. It depends if they ahve been cleaned recently. The situation is worse on older trains on less busy routes. There the situation can be filthy. Also, the outside is often sprayed with tags.
Toilets are often incredibly dirty. You were lucky.
The ride between Mechelen normally is 15-20 minutes. Antwerp-Brussels is 35-45 minutes. Something must have been wrong, I think.
1st class shuld be abolished in favour of more general seats. Nobody cares about first class over here.

Je me disais bien que ça a l'air bien différent, en dehors de la largeur et de l'espace aux jambes multipliées par 4.

      That's not double gauge
Not sure what it is exactly but no trains of different gauges use Mechelen and there's no infrastructure there for double gauge operation.

It's not double gauge, there are only standard gauge in Belgium. That's probably an old track that was just replaced but the working team didn't have time to take it off before the first train came.
