Can't thank you enough for this. I should have been taking notes
Thanks (:
taking a before and after pic is totally my thing. It's my reward, and gives my brain a very big high to see what I accomplished.
Omg I do this too
What a great idea!!!
I just had an epiphany! You're going to love this! I love making a game of tasks I'd rather not be doing. So... Let us (me) play "Let's Pretend" and tackle some cleanup and declutter. For instance, the Queen is coming soon to inspect my home, OR I'm moving (not really) or leaving for good OR I'm a high demand minimalist decor specialist hired to make the difficult decisions. Anyway, if I put my mind to it, I could come up with dozens of scenarios. Role-playing is fun to me, makes the task more fun, and makes the time go faster. What do you think? I really don't like the thought of just being responsible...no fun.
This sounds fantastic considering I'm also bored and overwhelmed by stuff easily and one of my biggest motivators usually is that someone comes to visit 😂 I have to try this
@@tuderich Yes. And would it not be better to turn off the TV, radio and so forth, and just use some imagination? Or try to memorize a poem or song or prayer while you work?
I do a lot of cleaning before Thanksgiving and Christmas. ive often thought I should invite people for other holidays. Arbor day? lol
@@privateinfo1711 I love it!
Give your self beautiful flowers, and you get to enjoy them all week.
I love tidying, folding laundry, and doing other generally not-fun tasks while listening to podcasts. I'll check yours out because I generally enjoy your content.
I almost passed by this video because I am hyper-organized and don't really need new info! But you drew me in and I really resonate with the mental health aspect. Love your enthusiasm. Thank you for a boost I didn't think I needed! ❤
Giirrrlll!!! Thank you!! I just purchased a new home. I tried to declutter before the moved, but ran out of time,,, So, some of the junk moved with me. Some day's I am super motivated and other days I am sooo over it and cant get moving. If I can do just one of these ideas per day, I know there will be a light at the end of this tunnel. Thank you for this video and for the hours of needed inspiration you give through your channel ❤
I've always thought that the worst part of moving is settling in, as there's no deadline for that, unlike moving day, when everything needs to be out of the house at a specific date. What works best for me is regular smaller sessions, like 15-30 minutes a day, 1 hour or 2 if I have the time, than huge unpacking and decluttering marathons, that leave me exhausted.
I was the same way when I bought my house at the end of 2022! I thought that I would definitely get rid of the junk in my apartment before moving (after all, I had access to a dumpster and one month before the end of my lease)! It mostly all came with me. On top of that, my parents started bringing more of my stuff that I had at their house to my new place! Then my boyfriend moved in with me and all his stuff! It's a lot but we have to get to decluttering soon since we are having new windows installed soon and everything has to be 8 feet away from the window areas😬
This was me as well and now we're moving again a year later and I feel like I'm not ready. :/
I'm moving soon. My plan (& this has worked for me in the past) is to leave everything in boxes that is not essential, only pulling out those items that I need when I need them. This is especially good for kids toys. If your kid doesn't see something out and doesn't need/want something specific, it'll end up staying in the box. After a set amount of time, go through what's left in the boxes and get really honest with yourself. If you haven't used an item in, say 6 months to a year, do you really need it?
Our workshop has a paper shredding room, where older bills, magazines, catalogs, text books get ripped up and sorted into 5 piles, then baled and sent to Edmonton to make food trays.
Sharen
“You can just, like, walk.” That made me lol.
Also, I loved supermarket sweep, I dreamed of being on that show. 😂 I tried to watch old episodes with my kids and they were bored. Ugh. This new generation doesn’t appreciate anything. 😜
I’m to a point in life and in our home where I’m happily maintaining our more minimal items and inventory. I made it a habit when we moved last September to build in some time to declutter each week because a lot came with us that we didn’t end up needing to move. So frustrating. So now once a month I go through things like toys and kids clothes quickly and generally sweep through everything else in our home during grocery pick up day. Making that habit something to stick to has been life changing!
It's the 30 day Minimalist Game -- I've done it twice. One month is about 500 items. I counted trash, recyclables, returned and donated items. I like the 10 minute timer. My kids are grown. But I have 2 grandchildren under 4 and I watch them 4 afternoons a week.
I had to do the sums 😂 I got 465 which is quite a number for one month!! I like that you included recyclables!
I love your e-book on being cleaner in 30 days! Genius and easy! Your planner keeps me on track because I am a paper and pencil kind of women!!!
Red Cross will do a porch pickup. You schedule it online. I feel
Good about it. People who have such urgent need possibly using my things makes me feel so happy
Wish they did that in my country( nz)
The only times I miss having a vehicle is when it's raining or when I have donations to get rid of😊
Salvation Army too, especially of big items!
I just realized today the power of a photo - I was determined to get tax paperwork ready for accountant and sent my mom what turned out to be a before picture to show her how much work I had to do. 10 hours later ... I sent a photo of the neat stack that was filled out, clipped, and labelled. After I sms-ed it to her, I looked at the before and I felt like I really accomplished something! Tomorrow, I will scan my 6 inch stack and deliver. TFS.
So I bought an accordion file folder and labeled it with all the standard tax things (hubs has 2 businesses), and then put things in their year-round so you're not struggling to gather all at once. I keep a checklist in the front pocket to remember things and add new stuff for the next year. I hand entire thing to accountant.
I took before pictures of a shelving unit and then got sick with a miserable cold. I keep looking at those pictures and "removing" stuff with my mind. Ha!
Some of my best work is done in my mind while relaxing. Then I have clarity & focus to do the actual thing!
Same here! Seems Like whenever I plan to declutter I get sick and IT IS SO ANNOYING!
Chocolate. I love how you get to the point and don't ramble about nothing. Thx.
Great ideas! Who doesn't need fresh ideas on decorating.
Yes!! I take pics because it looks so much better and worse on pics!!
My husband is a kindergarten teacher. He puts colored dots on the back of all of his puzzle pieces so the pieces can be quickly put back in the proper boxes.
I will sometimes take a before picture and text it to a friend and then get to work. When I’m finished, I send them the after picture so they can send me a virtual pat on the back!
I've a work WhatsApp group with some gal pals called "get rid of the shite" I'm definitely the biggest contributor 😂 I've been in the midst of this process for about a year now 😊 It's a process!!
That's such a great idea! Definitely motivating!
You are so inspiring. I'm so glad I happened upon your channel. You inspired me to finally organize my underwear and sock drawers with the drawer organizers I bought from Amazon literally years ago!
That show you're thinking of is Supermarket Sweep! I loved that show! They should bring it back!
I love Pumpkin but not cake donuts. Has to be a raised so I am choosing the Boston Cream. We are talking about moving in the next few years so I need to start now. I was a Navy wife for 30 years and decluttered every time we moved. Now we have been in the same house for 20 years. I find it is much easier to clean out as I unbox things. Guess I should start with boxes I have in the basement and toss as I go through them as if I am unboxing after a move.
Boston cream AND lemon why have one when you can have two🤪
Hey girl. Like the reward program. Definately Boston creme. Like start and end schedule. Gives an endpoint.❤😊
Oh, I REALLY needed to hear this today! I have been grieving the loss of a parent and noticed that my house has been messier than usual. I have been procrastinating cleaning up my clutter. I had become clutter-blind and depressed. Thank you Kallie for sharing all these ways to get started on my decluttering! This video is a God Send!
I did a targeted trash collection last year of cardboard boxes and the foam from appliances. I didn’t think I had much but it took months filling up the half size normal rubbish bin each week and recycle bin. I had to put cut the foam into what would fit in the bin which made a mess (don’t have kids or pets at home so it was safe) and bag it up and store it in the garage until it was gone. It couldn’t be done in 10min lots so it was a day project each time I was in the lounge. So worth it. All up it would have filled up my car 3 times over. Now I only keep the TV boxes and get rid of the appliance boxes ASAP.
Love your posts !!!!! I have been doing so much Declutterring thanks to you!
What really works for me is taking a picture of the “before”.. for whatever reason the actual picture looks a whole lot worse than me actually looking at the space (room) that needs to be cleaned. I know it got me motivated, as it was completely overwhelming. 🤦♀️.It wasn’t all done in one day, as it was a lot, but boy I kept looking 👀 at that picture 😂.. and it worked for me! 🤷🏻♀️
The best part is when Google photos picks up your "before" photo(s) for a special highlight, & enlarges it on your phone! Very embarrassing if someone is close enough to see it! 😂
Good video. We have charities that will pick up in my area. I just place in bags or boxes, print some labels and put on front porch and they come and pick up. It is a nice incentive to declutter.
Pumpkin definitely
This channel is genius. That trash bag game show idea is hilarious
My friends and I reference supermarket sweep often 😂
I love to donate books to the local library and the rest to goodwill. 🙂
I do a timer also! Not just with decluttering but also getting in my daily steps goal. When my timer goes off then I know I can take a rest or break. It helps to know there is an end coming!
I love the 10 min timer option. Thank you for sharing ❤
I still watch supermarket sweep! There's a whole channel of old episodes😂
Me too!
Me three! Plays 24/7 on Pluto TV! 😂🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒🛒
LOVE "Pick a number you like, I don't care". 😂😂😂
Another great one is from Rachel (nourishing minimalism) declutter 2024 items in 2024, you can fill the spaces everytime you declutter something and that has helped my kids a lot to start decluttering, she has a free download sheet. Sadly, she has decide to leave CZcams and she is not longer doing it, but you can make it on your own.
Great Ideas Kallie, thank you! I enjoyed the video very much. Greetings!
To motivate me, I watch this channel and remember the videos with the kids in it because I'm cheered up to see them.
Boston cream!
boston cream! followed by the cherry 🍒 (hahaha)
LOVE the start & end time!!!
Lol, supermarket sweep 😂
Gosh I loved that show!!!
I found it very entertaining as a child and I don't even know why 😂 @@christiet7870
Oh and cherry, I'd go for the cherry doughnut. Yum
Love the hair!!
Good one. I'm on vacay now but needed a boost to my decluttering when I get back, and I'll be using more than one of these methods. The "timed" and "counting" thing I've done myself, and a timer always helps me. I usually call it the "5 min (or 10 or 20) fix." Really a good way for me to get things in order quickly, whereas when I don't do the timer, I tend to meander, and am not as productive. Last but not least...I'm in your area and know those 🍩 the best! Also, never realized we have a Goodwill store in that town, as my town only has a donation center..going to check it out. Tks for the tips!
Room4Four podcast 🎉🎉🎉🎉 I was just looking for a new podcast and this is it! ❤
Chocolate donut. Yumm..😊
Yummy, except too sweet. Wish DD makes them with 1/2 the sugar.
I sell all of my sons very gently used clothes to 2 resell shops in town. I donate the rest. I also donate our old glasses.
For spring it would definitely be the lemon and any other time my go to would be PUMPKIN!!!!!!!
Awesome tips!!
I couldn't find your podcast, I must see because I just love your content ❤
I did the “get rid of 1 thing a day” for a month and enjoyed it. Was a fun challenge each day to find something, big or small, to sell or donate.
Great video as always 👍🏼 😊
Crazy mind blowing, so excellent. Remove 1 item a day. Sounds crazy but I know for a fact I can do that. Im going to start it today dropping an item in my donation bin or trash every day.
waterfall fun!
I keep watching decluttering videos but my house is already decluttered so much from years of continuous decluttering the Flylady way, which combines a few of these methods. What I need to do most is to declutter my tool shed but it’s cold out there 🥶😅 Maybe a few more decluttering videos 😜
Cherry for sure. Thx for the motivational video
This is the best videp for ideas hope theres more like it its accualy very helpful!
I loved it! 🎉
Excited to try this out! Specifically the [one item a day]. B/c... your girl is busy and the rest sounds a bit daunting. :')
Question! This isn't related to decluttering, but when you move into a new home, do you recommend hiring a pro to clean the house before you move in, or would you recommend cleaning it yourself? If you have a video talking about this, I'd love to watch it.
These are really good ideas! I am mostly in maintenance mode now, and this year, I have been trying to either declutter one thing per day, or make one thing in my life simpler. Whether it’s setting up another bill on autopay, or decluttering an app or some pictures or something physical. Decluttering makes life simpler as a whole, and so I decided one small thing a day to make my life flow easier. I only do it six days a week though, because I am also trying a day of rest each week. Thanks for all the ideas and inspiration you give! I enjoy watching your videos!
Thank you
Chocolate for sure!
Rather than before and after pictures I love making timelapse videos!
I have been decluttering from 2019 till now and i find it sooo much relieve soo much peace with my things and i do it every day its very therapeutic to me .... decluttering is not a 1 day task its whole life work
Boston cream doughnuts!
When my kids were little and i still picked their clothes, I would do the donate declutter when i took their clothes out of the dryer. Just thought i would add that. Thx for all the helpful tips!
Boston Creme all the way!
Great video 😊
Boston cream was always my favorite
Pumpkin Donut!😊
I like the reward idea
Boston Creme donut or sure! All suggestions you've given have worked well for me!! Have a great weekend!!
I rally, really love your videos. I always feel so much more motivated after watching them.🥰 Especially because everything seems so attainable. I have some really busy weeks behind me and everything is a mess currently and it really makes me sick. But now at least I feel a bit less overwhelmed and I really hope I am able to get into a flow again. Your sink rule really had helped me to maintain everything nice and clutterfree. The mess only came back, when I didn't do it anymore. 😅
Grocery Market Sweep! I totally remember it, how they’d go and get, like 5 turkeys.
Boston crème!!!! Favorite donut
What a great treat.
Oooo Lemon!
There is a donation center next to my vets office. Everytime I pick up his special food, I drop off a box full. My favorite is Boston Cream. ❤
Boston creme donut sounds amazing! 🍩
Iced coffee with a boston cream - can’t get better than that!
Eeeek didn’t know you had a podcast!! Excited to listen 😊 Great idea about rewarding yourself with consumables! I am definitely getting good at decluttering but I also tend to reward myself with more stuff 😅 🙈
I don't see the link for the pod cast?
Muchacha!! 🎉 you’re brilliant on soo many levels! I got sudden-chronic-declutter-syndrome at 2am, 2 days in a row .. I’ve hit my “plateau” on day 3 and from your videos I’ve gathered i have tooo much stuff.
All downloads printed! ❤❤❤
Enemy identified, resolution spotted -and Boston Cream, cuz they talk funny!
Wait, not funny. Cool! Interesting? Different? It’s an appealing accent😅 I’d have a nonsense conversation just to hear you talk. Soo I’d have a donut that reminds me of that potentially interestingly speaking boston-ly person. Keep being your greatest self! God bless ❤
Boston creme, of course!!!
But where is the link to the podcast??
love the hair. Always enjoy your videos.😊
Great ideas thank you! Pumpkin? But can I have pumpkin in spring? I’m so conflicted!
Hi! It is from the minimalist podcast. They call it the 30 day decluttering game. Love those guys! If you haven't, check them out!
I really like the before and after photo idea. I am going to do this. And, the sweet , yummy reward is great. Love your videos, as always❣
It was called Supermarket Sweep.
Chocolate and pumpkin for sure. 😋😋
Definitely chocolate and hope you are having a fantastic day!😊
I will definitely pick the chocolate and the ice coffee!
Cherry donut please! I got some good ideas from this video. Thnx!
" No Bad Days " 🎉💕
Funny and helpful. 😊
Boston cream all the way. Especially to go with the
banana hazelnut coffee.
I just recently heard about Waterfall Decluttering but backwards so 30 or 31 items on the first day, 30 or 29 items on the second day and so on! 😃
I think backwards makes more sense. The first go around is easy to find a bunch of stuff. By the time we reach the last day, things are pretty well cleared out, so finding anything to get rid of becomes more difficult.
@@minkademko2335 Exactly!
