    I just recently started watching Norwegian football on One Football. Im fascinated by the idea of Tromosø, a top flight European team that is so incredibly remote. Bodø/Glimt is remote enough, but Tromsø really takes the prize, at least in Europe. Tromsø is the third biggest city inside the Arctic circle. It has a decent mix of moder and traditional architecture. I was surprised that Bodo is smaller than Tromsø, which despite being on a small island has a population of nearly 80,000. I always try to look out for Tromsø matches, and have enjoyed watching them on One Football. The only thing appears to be that there’s no commentary, but once I got used to it, it was ok.
    I recently found that the greatest distance between teams and where they’re based while competing in the same top flight division is Perth Glory and Wellington Phoenix in the Australian A league which seem to be somewhere around 3000 miles apart.
    Great video, really enjoyed watching, despite the big focus being on Bodø/Glimt. I’m glad Tromsø won though.

    • @bamsebomsen
      @bamsebomsen Před 9 měsíci +15

      Quick note: The population on Tromsøya might be around half of 80,000. The population of the island + mainland (Tromsdalen) and Kvaløysletta on Kvaløya is around 70-80,000 depending on the season.

    I support Lyn, a historic club in Oslo currently making our way back to the top division after bankruptcy and relegation to the 7th tier in 2010.
    In our 127 years of existence, we've had a lot of ups and downs, but the supporters are still going strong. From founding the Norwegian Football Association, building the national stadium and nearly beating Barcelona in the quarter finals of the Cup Winner's Cup, we're now fighting for promotion from the 3rd tier. Two years ago the club decided to follow the German 50+1 rule, so now we, the supporters, own the club.
    Earlier this year we met our cross-town rivals, Vålerenga, in the Cup for "The Battle of Oslo". Prior to our relegation from the top flight in 2009, and the following bankruptcy, we hadn't lost the derby since 1981. This time around it was a tight game between the red and white promotion-chasing 3rd tier Lyn and the relegation-battling blues from Oslo East. We ended up losing 2-1, but the real match was the one on the stands.
    Next year we might meet in the 2nd tier, 15 years after we got relegated to the same division. These past few years the rivalry has sparked up again with sticker wars, a new young spirit in Bastionen (Lyn's supporter group) and banter on social media. Supporter-player-connection-wise I don't think many can beat us. After our promotion from the 4th tier last year, I ended up clubbing with the players and going to an afterparty with some supporter favorites and coaches.
    This is one of Norway's biggest clubs, with one of the richest histories, climbing our way back to the top, all thanks to the relentless support of Bastionen and the whole Lyn family. We would love to have you join us on our march back to the top, and if all goes to plan, maybe you can come and experience "the only proper Norwegian derby" as soon as next year :)

    You must come to Molde for the 2nd leg of Molde vs. Klaksvik from the Faroe Islands in the Champions League 3rd Qualifying round on Aug 15. Klaksvik has stunned Ferencvaros of Hungary & Hacken of Sweden to get this far. Their coach, in his 1st job as head coach is former Molde legend Magne Hoseth who played for Molde when we were in the CL in the 1999/2000 season. His assistant is Daniel Berg Hestad, another Molde legend, the player with most matches for Molde ever. Vegard Forren, who scored the decisive penalty against Hacken also has many years as a Molde player behind him, but was sacked by the club in 2020. Last season he played at level 3 here in Norway. Another former Molde player is also in the Klaksvik squad. It's a definite sell-out, and you will love the stadium as it's situated by the sea. Norways finest stadium. Or maybe you should go to the 1st match in The Faroe Islands, have you ever been there?

    Are you considering a return for the 2nd match between Lillestrøm and Vålerenga? Been quite the absurd situation around the two clubs this summer with Vålerenga snatching Lillestrøms coach mid season.

  • @hebi172
    @hebi172 Před 8 měsíci +1

    You'll have to be on the lookout for when Vålerenga plays Lyn in the cup (doesn't happen that often now unfortunately, since Lyn been relegated long time ago) - it's the Oslo derby and it's fire every time!

    Also in Norway, you should go to see Sogndal, a team now in the second division from a picturesque little town of roughly 10 000 people in the Norwegian fjords. The team is kind of the Norwegian version of Eibar, punching above their weight and producing a steady number of great players through the years, like Tore Andre Flo, Eirik Bakke, Håvard Flo, Akor Jerome Adams (who just signed for Montpellier and featured in the team of the week) and a total of 7 players from the Flo family through the years. The club is the pride of the region, from an often neglected part of the country and there is a curious link between the club, the Western University of Norway and ambitious local businessmen.

    • @rizandro
      @rizandro Před 9 měsíci

      Oh, and they also have the best football song in the country and a new version was made last year by the guys who made What Does the Fox Say? The town also have several great artists including national treasure Olav Stedje.

    Its so cool that you cover Norwegian football. I hope you come to Lillestrøm for the derby in october. You may have heard but LSKs manager was bought by Vålerenga, the most controversial transfer in Norwegian footballs history. The derby gonna be AGGRESIVE. Hope to see you there!

    Enjoyed watching this! I've been to Tromso a few times to see and photograph the Northern Lights, usually in early March, which means I can fit a preseason friendly in if they are playing home. I saw them play a preseason friendly against Bodo the last time I visited in March 2018...it was superb as there was 3ft of snow around the ground!! Try and visit Tromso, especially when the season kicks off in March...the team is doing well now...and the snowy scenery and Northern lights are something else!!!

    I am glad you took my advice on traveling to this fixture (my comment on the first match in Norway) 😆 And if your interested I could give you the websites on all the places in the UK that sells Brunost (Brown cheese) for another possible fixture maybe go to the Norwegian cup final being held in December. Norwegian weather in December could make that match very interesting. Or if Bodo/Glimt make it to the group stages in the Europa Conference league and a potential home game December 14th could be interesting even if only for the comic value. Blizzard conditions can not be ruled out.
