    I am running the RM42 for about 2 months now and I am just using a 6800XT from XFX which already was a tight squeeze, I had to remove the PCIe support bar completely in order to fit the GPU. Having the additional 1U of headroom would have been nice, although I would not have had the space in my half height server rack to fit it. But overall a great case and it is running great. Thanks for the video, it was very informative.

    Silverstone makes some great cases... I just grabbed the CS380 for my backup nas server... I needed 8 bays and it was cheaper than the 8 bay hotswap upgrade for one of my server racks... also recencly built a media pc in the SG11B, nice little micro atx case. I also have one of their media pc full atx cases, really nice match for my audio setup.

    Thanks for the video! This is exactly what I have been thinking about doing. I have two desks (gaming desk) and a (work desk) with a 42U half full server rack between them. I have been thinking about clearing up some desk space by getting rid of both gaming and work pc towers and put them in the rack. Then just run the needed cables to each desk.

    It may cost more up front however that case will give you a lifetime of service. Just keep it dust and condensation free to negate corrosion.
    I have two 4U's I have had since 2007 and both have survived three complete system rebuilds.
    The two catches with mine are:
    (a) the PCI slots are too narrow for the horizontally aligned USB ports on those multi-port USB PCIe cards but that can be addressed as needed.
    (b) the front I/O header still has the original USB-2.0 ports and replacements are not easy to find for the case now it is no longer produced, so I added a 2.5" drive panel with 4 x USB-3, audio & mic connectors.
    In my case I am running one as my daily driver i9 13 gen platform, the second a xeon system running TrueNAS Scale, and the third PfSense Plus with 2x4x1GNics & 1x2x10G Nics.

      @@RaidOwl Would you describe the sound of the 184i Pro's motor to be 0db silent from 100-350-ish RPM? I'm asking since I want a system that is totally dead silent on IDLE, surfing with many tabs, very light photoshop, vlc, etc. I have zero issue with these newest Silverstone 180mm to be loud above 1000 RPM, but I need the friction in their motors to produce zero, but I do mean truly zero friction sound (motor noise, subtle grinding sounds which these fans were known for from their very faulty first production batch, etc) during idle use.
      I love the RM51 since it apparently allows one to place it like a tower merely inches to the right of your face as one would usually do with a standard desktop tower chassis, all the while having two handle-bars installed on the case's top for ease of movement and looks. This is exactly what I want to do. I want to place the RM51 vertically (like a tower-style desktop on my desk) so that the PSU is ON TOP and the power button being on the lower-right (of the case's outer front), as opposed to the stock image of this chassis from the official site, showing the power button in the upper-left corner and thus actually implying that such an orientation has the entire inner system inverted by 180 degrees with the PSU on the bottom.
      But anyway, then, after placing it on my desk vertically with the power button on the bottom right, I would then proceed to permanently pop-off the front metal grill (along with the dust-filter mounted onto it) and compensate for this removal by adding two FF181 (180mm) fan filters on the INSIDE of the case (i.e., mounted onto the fans themselves). The reason why I'd go through all of this hassle (500 USD RM51 + 40 USD 2 x FF181 dust filters) is because to MY eyes, this RM51 thing with the front patterned metal plate REMOVED looks as if it is THE definitive zero-intake-obstruction (metal-mounting obstruction) case on the ENTIRE market, meaning that not even the fractal torrent allows more air-intake than Silverstone seemingly pulled off with the RM51's usage of two 180mm fans and carving their metal grills so that they'd allow the absolute maximum amount of air to be taken in by these 184i Pro's (which, by the way, would be useless if hypothetically mounted in a case with too many metal patterns and shapes obstructing the living s*it out of any potential that these fans had).
      My point and question being: do you, as the only person to have done a review of the RM51 think that:
      1. The RM51 with an NH-D15 in it would be 0db truly silent during idle (up to, say, 500 RPM)?
      2. The case can be placed vertically on a desk WITH the power button being on the bottom-right corner all the while two handle-bars CAN still be installed on the case's (vertical) top regardless, including the ability to install the plastic feet as well in such a weird orientation (opposite from the vertical-mode shown on Silverstone's site)?
      I'm even thinking of making a noctua-themed semi-passive system in this case aimed at total silence, so am obviously REALLY curious whether the 184i's could synergize in silence with noctua's stuff so as to become a truly silent (during idle or even light-load) use?
      Thank you for taking the time to read this and I am basically hinging my purchase decision for this chassis on your potential feedback. Please, let me know if you find the time.
      Best regards!

    I would consider that case for my primary workstation.... I had to downgrade my Noctua NH-D15 to the NH-D12L to fit in my 4u rack case. I just wanted my system to match my Proxmox and trueNAS racks... lol, for no other reason. I am actually fine with the smaller cpu block as temps are fine

    If you are in the market for something like this again. You may want to take look a the rack mount offerings from Sliger. They do not have 5U cases but, they do have 4U and they have options. Which can be much cheaper for the case and rails.

    In the process of moving all my servers and my workstation to a rack, and ran into the same issues. Not only do I need a new case (can't fit newer GPUs in my current case), it needs to be rack mounted but also a new cooler as my current Noctua doesn't fit in a 4U. So, subtracting the cost of the cooler, getting a case that will fit ANY GPU that might come out, and still having space for SSDs and a few HDDs. It's really not that much of a stretch for something that, and you get those awesome fans in the front.

    Was looking at this chassis yesterday, however only 4x3.5HDD? Is there any possibility of adding more?

    • @RaidOwl
      @RaidOwl  Před rokem +1

      Not that I know of. It’s not really a ‘NAS-focused’ case I guess

      @@RaidOwl SO much room, if I could squeeze in 2 more 3.5 (total of 6). Guess we could mod that GPU holder (the doohickey at 10:58) that holds 2x3.5 to hold 4x3.5? - Thank you responding!

      @rhadiem Před rokem

      Why are you even using 3.5 hdd's? NVME SSD and a NAS... This is a gaming/workstation case. Hell you can get a 4u case way better suited for storage at half the price

    I have to ask because you're the only video online (even including Silverstone's official) that shows how this darn thing works. Do you know how the front grill cover is suppose to come off so you can access the screws mounting the 180mm fans?

    • @RaidOwl
      @RaidOwl  Před 4 měsíci

      Yeah you just pull the front grill off. It’s attached by clips at the top and a grove at the bottom. Then you can unscrew the fans.

    • @NikoroKumitsero
      @NikoroKumitsero Před 4 měsíci

      Do you pull forward or up, its suuuper tight and I'm thinking I might have to remove it from the rails to be able to apply force. Also thank you for the quick response despite how old the video is.

    • @NikoroKumitsero
      @NikoroKumitsero Před 4 měsíci

      Actually, got a little brave. I used a flathead aimed for the seam between the front grill and case and tapped on it like a chisel, the front popped off. I see why it was so hard now, two ball pins with catches on the door and barely a handle to grab on. Nicked the powder coating but not sure I'd be able to pull it forward the first few times on a new case, but now I'll know for case number 2. Thank you so much for this video and your reply. Much clearer and faster than the manual or Silverstone's email support, and since its so niche, there's not alot of info out there. You're the man!

    Hello, great video, fun, and it is what I'm looking for. My situation: I'm software developer, my fun is coding not gaming, so any PC fits. BUT NOW my kid needs a gaming PC and I have a server rack in my basement. My question is how to remote GPU result from my basement to the rest of the house? Or is it possible to remote a monitor + control on a gaming PC?

    Hi. Can anyone help me? I'm new to the server rack world. if I buy this 5U server case for my gaming PC; How do I know what kind of server cabinet to buy. Like as long as I buy 5u or bigger and that it is 20 inches deep; im good? what about the width from the rail to rail. Are all the cabinets universal. Like for music equipment and pc server equipment? Do I need to make sure the cabinet has specific width? Since this case is 17.3 do i need to account for the sliding rails that will be attached. Gets confusing. Lol

    • @RaidOwl
      @RaidOwl  Před rokem

      Racks and rack mounted stuff is standard width (19”) for the most part so don’t worry about that. Racks will have different depths that you want to make sure is large enough to hold your stuff. Then rails will generally have a range of depths they can mount to. Hope that helps.

    Honestly, I've been looking for exactly this but with the capability of adding an ODD. Or at least that cooler master, or someone, releases a new version or a new edition of the haf xb evo. I just want a good case for my machine without it looking like a freaking christmass tree.

    Bro, I think I’m going with this chassis. Maybe a 4u bc pockets and wife.. Finally I’m gonna be a big boi.
    Next is to migrate my disks from sata to hba or whatever it’s called. Gotta research.
