    As long as I get to see rack mounted content, I'm ok with what ever you build. All my systems are rack mounted too. So far in my rack is a 4U threadripper workstation,
    a 4U 20 bay media server, and a 2U R720 for my blue iris and home automation. This is all in a 25U startech so I have plenty of room for each system to have its own UPS, a 3U parts drawer, and space left over.

  • @Veptis
    @Veptis Před 2 měsíci +1

    "FINALLY!" there is a proper video on this case. I looked at this quite a while to built a workstation. Not even rack mounting it. But it seems to have zero BS design to me. Like airflow is just a single direction and you can fit dual 360 radiators. As I plan to have one GPU and accelerator(s) in my next workstation built and might end up with some of them water cooled.
    one question: do both orientations (upside down) also work in the desktop/standing orientation?
    Only to see that SilverStone now announced 6U chassis... And they almost cost the same. It's not cheap at all - but all steel so it should last 2 decades.

    I have really been looking at purchasing two of these cases for my own set up. Trying to consolidate and move both my gaming and work/editing/encoding system into rack mount chassis and this might be just what I need. I am curious about the custom loop support for this case, particularly for mounting a pump/res combo perpendicular to the mobo. Worst case scenario I can get DIY with the drill, but If I can utilize predrilled holes that would be ideal. Maybe those unused drive sled holes? Thanks for inspiring me further on this project. Love the insight as always.

    • @GearSeekers
      @GearSeekers  Před 2 měsíci +1

      You can probably mount it to the drive sleds themselves. I didn't use any of them at all.

    • @StopperJJ
      @StopperJJ Před 2 měsíci

      @@GearSeekers That might be a good option. I will have to measure the current height of my corsair pump/res combo and determine whether that clears the Z axis height you mentioned for air coolers. It's not the tallest unit, but certainly not the shortest either. Ideally I'd like to have the pump mounted in it's normal orientation to A. avoid leaks B. make filling the loop much easier without trapped air. Thanks again for the suggestion and showing off this awesome piece of hardware.

    Definitely enjoyed this video. Do they make a generic NAS type option where it's little more than external hard drives for the server? I've had to change out my NAS twice now because they no longer support it and always run into problems since I'm trying to run Plex through the NAS. After this video I'm really close to wanting to make a server, but would need some way to come up with a NAS alternative. Epic stuff bro! I just built a shiny new 7800X3D/7800XT gaming rig, and I'm about to transplant my dusty old 8700k system into a Silverstone RM41-H08 chassis. I went with that chassis because I'm actually fitting it to a network rack, not a full-depth server rack. So unfortunately I had to omit the rails, and instead, I've fabricated a box-steel bracket with some adhesive foam and bolted that across the back inside of the rack for the back of the chassis to rest on, right above my nifty 1U draw 😁👍

      The Startech rack I'm using has adjustable depth and I'm using it at almost the shortest depth at around 64cm. I also didn't want a full depth rack and the RM52 is a short depth case as well. I have an older Silverstone RM316 which is full depth that I'm glad I didn't decide to put in this rack. It's in another one elsewhere.

    • @gearspider

      I'd love a Startech but they are pricey. The network rack I got is an APC 13RU for $200 off marketplace, it has a backdoor that can mount to a wall and the whole chassis can swing to the side. Great saving there, now I just need to save up for the 5-drives I intend to chuck into it 😁👍

    Epic case and something I've been interested in a while. I'd love to build something like this and tuck it away into the basement with all the other network and cabling in the house. But, any idea on how I would go about connecting to something like that? Or was your use case in this build having it tucked inside of a server case but still in the same room as the user.

    • @GearSeekers
      @GearSeekers  Před 2 měsíci

      For my use case the 12U Rack sits next to my desk. It ends up saving space in my office rather than having to PCs on the floor. It also allows me to put my 10GbE switches that I use in the rack as well as the M.2 10GbE/TB4 NAS I use for editing as well. You can put it in the basement and run fiber up to where you want to use the machine with a Thunderbolt dock. That would do all your USB, Display etc. If you're interested I could do a video about it. I'd have to get my hands on some gear but might be an interesting video :)

    • @craiggreeley
      @craiggreeley Před 2 měsíci

      @@GearSeekers , I'm absolutely interested but don't know if it makes a lot of sense. I haven't built a PC in years so the idea of sticking it down in the basement ensured that my home office was silent and free of fan / pump noises. But, what am I sacrificing in some ways by having to run fibre to a specific room. It's clearly a very specific use case that I haven't seen a lot of solutions for. Linus did something on this years ago where he ran like a 50ft TB2 cable between the server case and his office.

Silverstone Tech has always made superior quality PC chassis and they create new unique concepts instead of just copy-cat other manufacturers like most companies do and the specifications they list are correct, just be prepared to pay commercial prices for commercial products not consumer priced. They used to design CPU air coolers to specifically fit into their PC cases also.

    Seems excessive for rackmount, where you only need one direction for airflow so making the thing wider (while helpful for large air coolers) doesn't make it much better for servers and this thing takes a third of your rack? Maybe if you need a really quiet server, personally I'd like to see this with an option to turn it on its side and have a TG panel as an option (maybe included at this price). I guess I really really like it and I could also never explain the purchase.

    Build the ultimate cloud gaming PC in the new case! Water cooled CPU and maybe even GPU (can use AIOs for ease of use) and then ANYTIME you want to game you can just stream the high end rig to a TV, handheld, chromebook, steam link, or anything else EITHER using moonlight or maybe Parsec. You could ALSO do that build in your OLD case if you want to put a Threadripper in the other RM52. The advantage to the rack mounted gaming PC? It can act as a steam cache for your benchmarks and games for new builds to speed up downloads or transfers, it will centralize your save files for games so that they are always their no matter what service you ae using the save will be there. And you can stream that rig to almost ANY device and have full access... even over the internet away from home. Parsec will give FULL access to the host machines desktop WITH low latency either on a local network OR remote.

      I ended up transplanting my Threadripper Pro editing system into the other RM52 to fill out the rack. I think I might try upgrade to TR7000. I have a few TRX50 boards I just need a CPU :)

    "Thanks for the video! I really appreciate the design of server cases. As someone with a mobile DJ side hustle, I prefer rack-mounted setups. I'm currently searching for a case for my next flight simulator project. The RM52 has everything I need, but it's a bit too pricey and large for my liking. Can anyone recommend other server or rack-mountable cases that can fit an ATX motherboard, a 280 or 360 AIO cooler, and a large 4080 GPU? Thanks, everyone! - Gear Seekers

    Have myself 4U rackmounted case for my gaming pc. This silverstone model looks cool and seems perfect only issue with it is that it is damn expensive. almost 600 euros at europe. You can get proper 4U case for less than 100€. These gaming rack cases are cool but way too expensive. You are better to buy budget 4U case and save the money. Even the case would be long term

      @@djvincon basically unbranded model of RSV-L4500U Rosewill 4U case.
      Technically the same case with different cheaper branding with minor differences. Bought it before covid when prices were normal. Got it like 80 something euros.
      Only issue is that you cannot fit full height cpu cooler like NH-D15 to it. Its bit too short. Thou NH-D12L fits its nicely and gives about similar cooling performance compared to NH-U12A example.

    very expensive comparing how simple inside this case is. Nice it is 5U - but there is not so much place when you consider 1600 psu , big cpu radiator and at least one graphics card . by the way , gpu should be mounted horizontally. Normaly there are 30+ cm long ( not like the one on the video) and have 3+ pcie slots width . it is nosense to put gpu into motheerboard slot - you need extender and mount in paraller to mobo . Great chassis but space is somehow wasted id should cost Half the price it is now

    The case is great and I love it, but at 500€, it's just too expensive for me and it's definitly not worth the money. I can't see what justifies the price compared to a good 150€ PC case from CoolerMaster or any other Brand in that price range. It seems designed for companies that don't mind overpaying. While I'd love to have it for my own PC at home, a simple $100 case and a rack shelf will suffice for me.

      Some setups require different cable routing, I like having options. The cabling looks quite nice if you route it over the top of the GPU in my opinion.
