- From the time she was 16 years old, Morgan Eckroth loved coffee - not just the taste, but the art of serving it. Since then, her life has been wholly coffee-centric: from working as a barista to making TikTok videos of latte art and sketches based on her experiences working in coffee houses. In 2022, Morgan entered the U.S. Barista Championship tournament and emerged as that year's champion. And she says she has more to say about coffee at this year's competition.

From Coffee Lover To U.S. Barista Champion Making $141K/Year
It was really great talking with you all, thanks for letting me be a part of the Make It series!
The world of competitive baristas is new to a lot of people and it’s always so much fun to talk about.
One clarification on my position in marketing at Onyx, I began the job mid-2022 so the numbers in this piece are just reflective of the partial year I worked.
Great job Morgan🎉
Thanks for sharing your story with us and also for the most excellent cappuccino!
You are awesome!!!
It's so wierd to see you talking 😩🤣🤣🤣
Misleading headline
I love her CZcams channel. She really is the sweetest person. Great job Morgan!
Misleading title. She doesn't make 141k a year as a barista. She makes 17k a year as a barista and 96k a year online.
Barista makes 17-24 hr, manager 50 hr, 141k at top 1% compared other careers 250k-500k at top 1%. Anything for clickbait title lol
She was referred to as a barista champion; nothing was implied that she makes the money from being a barista. It's just like saying ''Beauty Queen makes 141k a year" doesn't mean she makes the money from being a beauty queen: we are the ones who add extra meaning due to the way our brains functions but I understand what you mean.
Unless the title was changed, it says Barista CHAMP making 141k a year. They don't actually just call her just a barista, though your point still stands since your average person probably doesn't know what that is and would just assume that she gets paid more because she's the "best barista" in the US.
@@adeyosola414 You know that IS clickbait right? Vague, misleading titles.
I knew it was misleading title before I clicked on the video.
I watched Morgan online for the World Barista Competition. I was so impressed with her poise and confidence given she was under very watchful and critical eyes of the judges. Congratulations Morgan...glad to hear you'll continue competing. Onward and Upward! 👍🎉
The investment in the competitions seems like an excellent return on her investment. She now has a title of "US Barista Champion," so no matter what she does in the future, whether it's opening her own coffee shop, writing a book on how to become a barista, etc.... she can always market her products/services with that title.
I think “coffee parties” would be a neat thing for them to offer in the future - $50 to show up to a shop, receive a bag of coffee, and then get coaching on how to optimize their ideal cup of coffee. I think a lot of people don’t know how to do that.
She seems so sweet & passionate! Love to see creatives living off of their craft❤️
This was actually a really cool video!! I appreciate how the video presented how much time and money she spent out of pocket. $4k+ is a lot for a barista salary! It’s great for others to know what kind of income/savings you need just to participate in the initial competition itself.
Barista champion who makes $17,000 from her barista job says a lot
Been watching her since she had 900 subs right before the pandemic. Why wasn’t her coffee bean brand mentioned here? It’s amazing to see how far she came in such a short time. Keep it up Morgan!
Thank you for interviewing her. I am one of her subees. She's adorable and driven and passionate about what she loves to do.
Very cool to monetize something you love. Success
Imagine being the best barista in the United States and second best in the entire world and still only being paid 15/hr?? Like that can't be serious????? Give her a freaking raise, that part was really shocking to me.
Cafes already don't make as much as restaurants cause it only sells coffee and deserts. So, how can you expect one to pay 5-6k per month? And 7-8k is definitely unrealistic. Plus, the fancy title won't be valid in the long run since you're only a champion for one year. This is why most baristas turn to office jobs that pay much more since they offer a sustainable career.
17k yearly is less than 15.00/hr. That means she gets paid way less than 10 an hour. If it weren't for online platforms she'd be struggling. That cafe is ripping her off.
@@kensigregory361 it's not just that cafe. it's all coffee chains like Starbucks. $15 is on the higher end too, probably because she works in a major city. It is a shame that the jobs that are enjoyable also tend to be the lowest paying.
@@kensigregory361 this comment is 8 months old, but it should be noted for anyone watching now that it is written in the video that her barista work is PART TIME. 20 hours a week at 15/hour is 15600 a year. she almost certainly works less than 20 hours a week given her other jobs, and you also have to factor in tips that get added to her hourly pay
That job helps her make the real money she makes online and with other businesses. It also helps her keep up with her craft
Morgan is killing it, how awesome is this. Very chic haircut as well, love the style
had so much fun with her content during the pandemic.. thank you Morgan
I literally have a video of hers saved in my watch later playlist and did not realize until now, That's amazing that she's doing all these things and creating the life she wants.
Oh woooow she’s made it to CNBC!! Been watching her for a few years now, I love this for her! 🥰💞✨
I love this woman! Her content is so wholesome and comforting to me 😍
so glad to see morgan on here, love her channel
omg i watch their channel and love it!! im excited for morgan’s journey
CNBC Make It: "This person unexpectedly makes six figures doing this job!" Inside the video: almost all of it comes from social media.
her vibe is just genuine. her spirit calms mine
For all of the downsides of our internet media ecosystem, the fact that driven people can make six figures doing something niche that they are passionate about is really cool
I love her content. Appreciate her transparency!
Congrats, Morgan, I'm a huge fan of your work. Hugs from Brazil!
Love these stories. Way to go Morgan! Congrats!
It's nice to hear from someone who as found her niche and is happy with it.
I love watching her shorts so much! I subscribed to her when she started posting about competitions cause it was so interesting to me. Surprised but so happy to see her on this series !! :-)
Some of those initial incomes show why people are leaving work to just make content and do what they love.
the income streams are mindblowing to me. especially the fact just how little you'd make from being a barista (even if this is from parttime, and it has a higher wage than I would have)
Such an inspiring story.
I really love Morgan her channel. She puts so much effort in her videos
Watched your video for 2022 championship. So enjoyed it. Can't wait for 2023.
YOU ROCK MORGAN! Thank you for being our Coffee Ambassador (BTW love the curly locks - grin)
I’m so proud of Morgan ❤ love watching their content and can’t wait to see when she wins 😇
Girl you are legit keep doing what you doing enjoy it it’s a stupid competition but still you rock
This was so cool! Very interesting I didn’t even even know about these competitions Good for her
The first thought that came to my mind is ''she is soooooo beautiful"'
Congratulations to her on being the U.S Barista champion at such a young age. 👏👏👏🏆🏆🏆🏆🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅
Graham is going to love this one!!
I see her TikToks and she is amazing!!
The fact that there’s a whole competition on making coffee is wild to me
This is one of the only realistic CNBC’s make it videos.
This is soooo different! I love it!!!
I ❤ Morgan. Such a breath of fresh air.
I love this so much, Morgan is so inspiring ❤
Wow 😅 never knew there's a competition for making coffee ☕😅 this is a great country we live
That is inspiring! this is more meaningful than those $1 million salary management consultants.
I bought my bambino because of her review. Didn’t know she was such a big deal!
Job well done, keep up good work 😊
the cash prize barley covered the costs of joining
Great job !
I was like- is that Morgan makes coffee!?! And it is! Kudos to you Morgan! :D
Awesome job Morgan!!
We love you Morgan!
Morgan.!!! Love her channel ❤️
Following her on Tiktok for years now!
Thanks for coming along on all the coffee adventures!

Good on her.
Yes Queen get your bag
Congratulations 🎉🍾🎊
Such a cool person! From her style, her comfy vibes, how knowledgeable she is and how much she has achieved for herself!! Definitely very inspirational (and cute 🫣) ☺️
YAY! I love her videos!
She should open her own coffee shop
I like your hair style too !
😊❤❤❤
I love Morgan - she is awesome ❤
Go Morgan!!! 🎉
Inspiring!
Been following them for years
Morgan sweetie! We love you!!
This is Gonna b so Good🔥🔥🔥👍n Happy Tuesday😀….
i follow you on tiktok and love your content!
While I enjoyed the breakdown of competition cost, I would’ve liked to see more of the budget breakdowns for typical expenses as well!
The barista part really isn't paying much. But she's done wonders for herself, good for her.
That’s crazy. Congrats
❤❤❤
We missed you .
❤❤❤
You great .. too great . You can teach others around the world and inspire the young generation. God bless you more and more. Te amo! Peace & Love. Oh, God loves you more...
Another business model could be a barista competition prep coach. There may not be many people who do it but there might be demand in a niche market. Although it may result in more competition against herself it’s just an idea.
I had no idea she made this much money from videos . Wild
Almost couldn’t recognize her with that hair style and heavy makeup. Discovered her channel during Covid shutdown. Glad she’s doing so well!
Very interesting person! 👏
I'm honestly really surprised that she still only makes $15/hr from being a barista considering she's a US champion. I'm also kind of surprised she hasn't built her own coffee shop
Excellent outstanding 😊😊❤❤
I'm so glade I know how much she makes a year. It's such a thing I needed to know
Dope ❤️
Keep Drinking that Coffee !!!
Ive had your coffee before at "said coffee shop" idk if i should say. But it was good.
Young sheldon making the best coffee
I dont drink coffee, but I'm still watching ;)
Interesting ❤
🐐 of ☕
Nah that’s James Hoffman but she’s pretty cool too.
"I'll walk in with like keys and a cup and... it's gonna be great."
Cool af!
She looks familiar
The title of this is misinforming people. When you watch the video she shares that she has three jobs which make up the amount in the title. Please be informed that the average Barista salary is not this and this is not true information based on the meaning of the American pretty general/average job position and description and pay.
THE CUTEST BARISTA
Where?
Omg I sub to her on CZcams
she should open her own coffee shop/cafe
Queen, we're waiting for your own coffee brand to drop
No we are not.
I'm curious how does she get a paycheck from her Tiktok account?
Happy to elaborate! I have three different platforms that I make content on (TikTok, CZcams, and Instagram). For both TikTok & YT, I receive Adsense or payouts based on the number of views I receive. Additionally, I occasionally partner with brands to create sponsored content.
