- Let's wrap up 2023 with a head-to-head between what I think are two of the best 62MAS homages under $200.
Seestern 62MAS v3 ► s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DC3...
San Martin 62MAS 39mm (SN0007-G-B) ► s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DC0...
The new budget 39mm San Martin comes in at a lower price than its predecessors, and the 37mm Seestern has gotten a huge update that could be a game changer for many. These affordable AliExpress watches have gone through a few iterations, and if you're looking for a 62MAS homage, I think a lot of you might be cross-shopping between these models. Which one would/did you go with?
@@hiphopdancer1315 thank you! #teamSeestern
This decision can be delayed untill the next big sale 😉
@@motischenker8409 wait for the March anniversary sale. I’m sure there’s going to be great discounts then!
San Martin for me , i don't like the way the date wheel goes into the minute markers on the Seestern and i watched another review and it showed the date wheel wasnt centered properly in the window
The Seestern is the one I own for a year now, love the size and I am not a fan of the san martin logo. The bezel insert could be a bit more refined, but it is ok.
Perfect review. The variety of wrist shots including the profile shot help understand the fit. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks so much! Glad it was helpful.
Excellent quality video you have made. Well done.
Thanks so much! 🙏🏽
Just picked up the Seestern. Absolute strap monster and very well finished
Great video! Do you have any take on how Seestern's latest v4 62mas homage measures up?
AWESOME REVIEWS, SUBSCRIBED!
Thanks so much! 🙏🏽
Great review. I have 3 Seestern's, different colorways on FKM straps. Its a great watch, especially if you buy it on sale...I paid around $115 for each of mine. Have a great New Year!
Thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying them that much. For $115 it’s not just a steal, it’s daylight robbery haha. Have a great New Year too!
As usual, an excellent watch review.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Great video!!! thanks mate. Anyone here with a 8 inch wrist size that owns the Seestern? I am wondering if there are going to be issues.....
I agree with you, what a fantastic watch, great review.
Thank you! 🙏🏽
Excellent comparison video! Well done! I have been waiting for this video😊
Thanks a lot! Hope it helps you make a decision. 😉
Ive been eyeing on both of this 62mas homage. And i have watch numerous review and From what i see and learn. Getting both is the best idea😂😂😂.
Spot on 🤣
This was a great review! I don't usually buy homages, but Seestern really has my attention with this one and the price is so reasonable it's difficult to pass up. You did such a thorough job here, there probably is no reason for a full review, but I'll leave that in your hands and would certainly watch it, and appreciate it if you manage to find something else to talk about. Thanks for shedding some light on a brand that I'm frankly surprised can compete directly with SM, let alone win.
Thanks for watching! I was surprised too, but Seestern really outclassed San Martin with this model. It's a no-brainer for the price. You're probably right about not needing a dedicated review for the Seestern. I'll save that for a rainy day if the content bank dries up. 🤣
Dear Sr. What a great video! The listing of the Seestern says 14.5mm thick, but you described as 13mm, which one is the real one? Please help me, If you had to choose one, which would it be? This Seestern, the San Martin 6200 vintage homage, the Glashutte Seestern homage or a classic Seiko SKX013? I have a 6.5 inch wrist. Thank you so much in advance!
Thank you so much! I’ve measured it at 13mm, I think the listing is incorrect. That’s a tough call because those are all great watches. I have the same wrist size and I’ve had all of those watches, but with the SKX007 instead of the 013. The Seestern 62MAS and San Martin 6200 wear the best, but the SKX013 is a legend. The Seestern SeaQ is fantastic too, but it wears a bit larger than the others. You can’t go wrong with any of them, I guess it depends on which look you like the best.
Great comparison! I’m a big SM fan, but I picked up the Seestern SeaQ homage last month, and I see what all the fuss is about. It’s great to have competition in this space. I am puzzled as to why neither SM nor Seestern used their on-the-fly adjustable clasps on these pieces. Also, pin & collar is a deal breaker for me. I have a couple bracelets with that system, and I absolutely hate working on them for adjustments.
Thank you! The Seestern SeaQ is probably one of the best AliExpress watches I’ve handled in 2023 - you made the right choice with that. I think SM and Seestern didn’t include their adjustable clasps here because of the lower price points. I’m looking to get a third-party adjustable clasp for my Seestern now. I saw some interesting ones for $18 on AliExpress.
I went with Seastern some time ago (2 years maybe). Changed crystal to flat sapphire with AR as didn't liked curved halo effect. But didn't wore it this year at all due to crown digging into my hand. Found that Seiko 5 with crown at 3.8 are my watches to go.
Also - great review from cinematic and attention to details on watches ! Top notch.
Thanks so much, appreciate it! Do you happen to wear your watches on the wrist bone? I wear them above the wrist bone so the crowns don’t dig into my hand.
@@WristWatching
I wish I could, my wrist are too fat 🙂
@@Tom_Kowalczuk All good mate. Check out the Citizen Promaster NY0040/NY0085 too. The crowns on those are on the opposite side, they may work even better for you. 😉
Great review! I thought the SM would "win" this comparison, a surprise and a relief since my seestern's on the way 😂
You made the right call 😉
Another cracking review buddy. If I was a watch guy I’d definitely snag that Seestearn no doubt.
Thanks so much, my man! Aren't you a watch guy? 🤣
Will seestern fit a slightly bigger wrist, like 18.5cm?
What a great head to head Harvind. Of course I will have to unsee all of this as per our conversation haha. Happy New Year 🎉 and we will speak more in 2024 😊
Hahaha thanks John! I can't wait to see your head-to-head video. Have a happy new year too! 😆🎉
Timely video. I'm considering these two for purchase. Thickness of seestern is listed as 14.5mm on aliexpress. That why I've held back. You've listed 13mm.
I had a feeling I wouldn’t be the only one struggling to decide. The Seestern listing is probably a mistake. I’ve measured it at 13mm with my callipers, same as the San Martin.
Seestern looks fantastic. Great comparison, thank you. 13mm thickness is too thick for my taste. Would love it if they made a quartz option that was thinner.
Thanks for watching! You might be on to something. A thinner version with a sweeping mechaquartz movement like the Seiko VH31 would be interesting to see.
@@WristWatching I would buy that in a flash!
saw your post on reddit, great review! do you think the seestern will go on sale again for the march shale?
Thank you! I'm sure they'll go on sale during the March sale. They're going for a great price now, but if you wait for the March sale you might save a further $10-$20 or so.
Nice video 👍 I would take the Seestern with the bezel insert of the San Martin ^^
Thank you! That would be the perfect combo.
8:35 I feel you Bro. The bezel insert look of the SM is top notch.
@@jayarreyes3601 It just looks so CLEAN!
@Wrist Watching Hello, is the dial of the Seestern watch gray or black?
Grey sunburst
When determining which is best when it comes to watches, I admit I am heavily influenced by beat rate. Most (just about all) 62MAS homages are standard beat rates. Under $200 I've found that only Tandorio offers a high beat rate homage. If you're willing to spend a little bit more than $200 the Islander Northport is another really awesome 62MAS homage that's powered by a high beat rate movement.
I’m a sucker for higher beat rates too, but the quality on these are levels above the Tandorios I had so I can accept the trade off. I’ve heard good things about the Northport. I reviewed the Islander Port Jefferson a while back and I was really impressed!
@@WristWatching Point taken, but we're going to have to agree to disagree on the quality. While I only have this one Tandorio to compare, I have over 1/2 dozen San Martins and Seesterns to compare it to and maybe I just got lucky but this Tandorio's fit and finish is as nice as any San Martin or Seestern I own. Making it's high beat movement a cherry on top the others don't have.
@@DarthPlaya I’m surprised! The ones I’ve had were nowhere near that good. The case didn’t have crisp transitions, the bracelet was cheap, and there was no AR coating on the crystal. They must have stepped up their game-which is great!
Good review. Too many compromises on the 'budget' version of the San Martin. A deserved win for the Seestern.
Thank you! Completely agreed.
Good video! Really helped me understand that Seestern knows what they are doing - that brushed center on the hands is a feature that Christopher Ward also puts on their watches. Interesting wrist shots in the Comfort section: they show that the small 37 mm diameter of the Seestern actually looks well-sized on your 6.4 inch wrist. My wrist is nearly identical (about 6.36 inch), so this is very helpful. The wrist shots also make the watch look pretty great! By the way, Seestern claims their watch thickness is 13 mm. Did you measure the 14.5 mm thickness?
Glad it was helpful! The Seestern would fit perfectly on you. I measured it multiple times at 13mm, but their listing strangely says 14.5mm. I have no idea why they haven’t fixed that error. 🤔
I agree with you. I have both watches and seestern turned out to be a hit. The San Martin seems bigger than it really is, it has a narrower bezel and the watch face seems bigger. The dial itself looks like it would fit a watch with a 42mm size. The seestern has a wider bezel, the dial is more compact just like the seiko which gives it a lot of character. I'm so happy with the seestern that I don't know if any other watch manages to top it. Currently I am going to compare it with the squale 1545, previously I wanted to buy a christopher ward C60 Trident Pro 300 38mm watch but I can see from the pictures that it has a narrow bezel just like the san martin which I will not like. Seiko with its wide bezel and compact dial has created a watch with character that seestern has copied to such an extent that buying a seiko seems foolish. I am thinking of models like the spb213j1. The 6r35 mechanism sucks.
Are we twins? I’m completely with you on all points, and I also want to buy that 38mm C60! This Seestern was a trial run for that watch and like you, it’s kind of put me off the CW seeing that has a thinner insert. I wish I could try out the CW in person to really get a feel of it, but until then, I’m probably going to look at a non-diver from their lineup.
Fun video
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for choosing this topic! It's another great choice of watches, both of which are in my shopping cart, waiting for my decision.
I had a feeling I was not the only one struggling with this decision. I hope this video helps you!
I happened to be wearing the San Martin when I saw this review. The Seestern looks really good. Fortunately, the lumed bezel and the edge of the crystal on the Seestern were negatives for me. So, I'm not kicking myself!
You’d be crazy to NOT review the Seestern. Well done! An amazing shootout video
Thanks man! Haha I’ll add the Seestern review to the cue 🤣
Excellent review, i just wish the Seestern was a bit larger (at least 41mm). On my 7.5inch wrist, it'll look like a little child's watch 😢
Thank you for watching!
Could find any seestern 62mas V3 with that female endlinks 🤔
Check out the listing on my description, that’s where I bought it from. They haven’t updated their list photos, but the latest batch has the female endlinks. All the latest reviews on that listing have it too.
Looks is san martin.
Much more darker and not flashy.
The big numbers on that small bezel watch looks off. I'm a lume pig but it takes away from daylight looking rather than nighttime looking.
I do agree with you.
I’m going to steal the term “lume pig” for future reviews. 🤣
paper test
Paper Test
PAPER TEST!
(I hope you do this for your next review, Harvind) 😅
Hahaha sorry mate, both these watches passed so I didn’t include the test in this video.
Sold my spb when I got the seestern. Felt closer to the original 62mas and it has better lume and bracelet and ceramic bezel. The 4r35 keeps better time than the 6r35 and that's very odd.
That's eye-opening! I've been lusting after the SPB143 for over 2 years now, but I could never get myself to pull the trigger because of the movement issues. I didn't know the lume and bracelet weren't as good as the Seestern.
@@WristWatchingI sold my spb143 and got this San Martin. It is much better. You’re not missing out.
@WristWatching the movement has a bigger power reserve BUT is very inconsistent. The bracelet is not to justify the price difference. I own seikos, some affordable some more expensive. The mm200 is a better option, but still the 6r35 is there and it's a gamble. It's only microbrands for me. Waiting for a Wicked watch co phoenix these days.cant wait.
U r from usa or uk?
I prefer the seastern
Seestern looks the better watch apart from the font used on the bezel. Looks too chunky for my taste.
I am a SanMartin fan, in this case though, you made a fair call..
I’m a huge San Martin fan too, but I had to be objective for this. Seestern aced their 62MAS homage!
Wish I had seen this review a week ago!! That Seestern looks the business, but the San Martin is on its way.
@@curtisbrown7991 The San Martin is a great watch too. Honestly, you won’t notice many of the things in this video without the Seestern beside it, so don’t sweat it. Enjoy your new San Martin. 😉
Are you sure that's a seestern v3? The v3 had male end links, the female were a v4 addition
The Seestern store I got it from labelled it as a v3, but it came with the female end links.
@@WristWatching Hmm I wonder if that's the only difference between the v3 and v4 then, in which case that link would be the most recent version.
Thanks for the information!
I'll get it when it's on sale. About €110.
At that price it’s a no-brainer!
Dangit. Wish I'd bought my Seestern a year later.
Contact them to see if you can buy the new bracelet separately.
I liked the Seestern best until I saw the fully lumed bezel. That's a complete turnoff for me on a 62 MAS copy. I guess most everyone else wants full lume though.
I get you. I wasn’t a fan of that too, but I was surprised by how practical it was. They have a non-lumed version too. Funnily enough, I only got this version because it was cheaper than their non-lumed version.
Never heard anyone complain about lumed bezel
Seestern are doing great things! too bad this one is too small for my wrist. Im not a SM fan at all. asking 200$ and upwards for a watch with a ghost position is silly. I do not accept their excuses. USE THE APPROPRIATE MOVEMENT!
I did get a 62 homage though. The Islander fireball 😍
Wow, that Islander fireball is an eye catcher! Great choice. 🔥
@@WristWatching to be honest i still cant scratch the itch yet. I might have to get an actual 62 mas. Have you heard of the 62 darth mas?
@@sivanstar I feel you. I’m pretty sure I’m going to pull the trigger on the Seiko SPB143 next year haha. I can’t seem to find anything about the 62 Darth MAS. Got a link to that?
@@WristWatching i love it but at that price ill look into a 2nd hand gs. Look up sbdc085. I think RR had one for review. Its design is either you like it or hate it.. 🤷♂️
Seestern
Hear, hear!
I gotta say, you might as well just wear a replica at this point.
That being said, these things look legit for what you pay.
I don’t buy homages to pass them off as the real thing, so replicas are out of the picture. I have original Seikos, but they don’t offer the 62MAS style in the size I want and with female endlinks, that’s where homages like the Seestern come in. Getting a lumed bezel and date disc for this price are just the cherries on top of the cake.
..... the category you didn't touch on was logo ....... the Seestern is OK ... the San Martin hexagonal logo is just horrible ..... I haven't bought a single SM since they adopted this eyesore .......... obviously many love it though .......
I took that into account and mentioned it in the dial category, but I didn’t feel it warranted a category in its own. I do hope SM moves away from this logo in the future.
After 3-4 trips to the ocean the paint inside the indices of the bezel insert on my San Martin progressively faded away with each trip. While the out of the box impression is great don't expect much in terms of longevity. Also, the sapphire crystal is cloudy at certain angles, the reflections get in the way of seeing at the dial. It was a fun experiment to test out one of these Chinese factory brands but the product quickly went from wow to meh. After enjoying the look of the watch on my wrist I'm starting to justify the $3,500 for the SJE093.
There is no such a thing as a BRAND called SEEEE-STERN, with a dizzy anglidiotic pronounciation: SEESTERN is a german name, and that means starfish. And the pronounciation is S - E like END, NOT E LIKE EVIL. Period. 😈🏁
