Hopefully, KH3 itself wasn’t suppose to come out until after Versus XIII which is what we are all more interested in. Verum Rex is the closest we’ll ever get to Versus XIII. Had things went how he originally planned it would be much better. He unfortunately had to pivot and implement ideas from it. Plus the foretellers alone will carry the next saga, Disney being incorporated or not is irrelevant cause darkness is more interesting lol. Quadratum of course was suppose to be the Kingdom of Lucis/Insomnia. Sora of course was suppose to run into Noctis eventually. We don’t know what role etro would play in it but this was all planned back in 2006. Nomura is probably the best director they have currently anyway but this is what Square and the fan based wanted. FF7 trilogy over Versus XIII trilogy so he’s doing the best he can. Nothing to worry about tho Kingdom Hearts as a whole is about to turn it up a notch now.
Releasing that teaser was a bad idea. I swear, Nomura always creates these cool scenes with trailers and sneak peaks, then create a whole story around it. Which creates huge challenge for story writing. Case in point: secret ending for KH 1, 2, Versus XIII reveal trailer(s)
Nomura can do it, but what is the big wall is both Nomura's desperate need for a concept translator, and too many cooks in the kitchen. So many extra story beats that they try to pay off while adding even more story beats and all pulling in different directions is really felt in KH3. It had so many ideas and so many places it wanted to go at once that it lacked direction to those ideas, feeling like its missing an entire "middle" section to the game. I hope Nomura gets a more focused writing staff that can help share in his visions and translating them to the wider audience, because lack of cohesion will just make things struggle far more down the line.
