  • It was mid June 2020, a few weeks after the easing of the UK's first national covid-19 lockdown. Myself and Matthew from the London City Angler came together to produce a short video documenting an after-work trip to a London chalk stream.

    I moved away from London 30+ years ago but I used to fly fish the Roding, Coppermill Stream and the Old River Lea.

    Nice one. Love the fact that you can now catch fish again in the city.. We used to make our own flies and use a technique called ‘dapping’ We would stand on bridges and let the breeze take the silk And adjust the trajectory just by raising or lowering the rod tip. this would allow the flies to touch the water. In a very natural way. It’s an unusual and exciting way to catch any fish that will take a fly

    Nice to see someone still making use of a fibre glass fly rod. There's nothing wrong with them in shorter lengths like 7' or 7'6". Light but robust. And some people would pay £50 or more for a day's fly fishing only to have less sport than you managed on that stretch there.

    • @flyfishinglondoner

      Fibreglass has made somewhat of a comeback recently. That particular rod is still in use and currently seeing good action on our chalk streams.

This year, I also want to continue shooting videos and uploading them to CZcams. I have been fishing with fly fishing since last year, before that I only fished with a spinning rod and shot a little video. Now I will shoot a video about fly fishing :) Thanks for the video!

      I still do a bit of fly-fishing, mostly at Bewl or Tenterden.
      I always meant to give it a go at Balls Green on the Medway, I had grayling on baits up there & always wanted to try nymphing for them, but alas, ran out of time!

  • @jeffslade1892

    Unusual cast. The rod is not normally allowed to go behind the shoulder, and then knocked forwards about 45° to flick the weighted fly line out. Whilst it can be cast enormous distance it is more about accuracy, and should be effortless. Draw the line up but stop the rod and let the line pass behind, when you feel the weight of the line knock forwards but stop to let the rod spring the line out, lower the tip to lay the line onto the water and the fly where you want it.

    • @flyfishinglondoner
      @flyfishinglondoner  Před rokem +1

      From the G9 Facebook group to now the comments section of my videos! The set up included a 3mm tungsten fly for the section you see the casting on. Combine that with fibreglass and a downstream wind and it was a challenge. But I'm experienced enough to make it work - hence why I still caught plenty of fish!

      How much? Sold enough to your mum to buy it outright. Been selling to her long enough that it affected your schooling to the point that you can't spell crack properly.
