  • 2021 GMC Yukon Denali is an absolute machine, from space, to technology, to towing and more. But how does it compare to the Ford Expedition King Ranch? Is it better? Should you buy one?
In this video I compare them against each other to find out the best out of the two.

The way the ford seats fold is for car seats!! Which multiple kiddo moms really appreciate. No need to remove the seats just to let someone get into the back. Major plus.

9,200lbs AWD, 9,300lbs RWD for the Expy. You are correct about the Expy whipping the Yukon/Tahoe/Escalade, as they already drag race them on Fast Lane Truck, using a Yukon Denali 420hp/460ft lbs torque, prior to redesign. Same engine, same transmission as the 2021, but a lighter SUV, compared to these heavier and larger 2021 models. Wasn't even close.

The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the Cadillac Escalade account for 50% of all large SUV sales in the US. GM makes 340,000 of them every year and exports about 80,000 to 31 countries. They’re made in GM’s plant in Arlington, Texas, which is said to be the most profitable assembly plant in the world. We estimate they generate $20 billion in revenue for GM and about $4 billion in profits. Autoline Daily.

The expedition is significantly quicker in a straight line compared to the GM full size SUVs. Look at acceleration tests to find out yourself. I understand you love V8s but there is no need to lie about how quick these cars are. If anything, I found the GM full size SUVs to be more lackluster since they lack the torque advantage of the Fords ecoboost engines. I'd love to see you reply with how you got those impressions.

All of GMs full size SUVs have three different ways to fold the second row. You can pull the tap on the side of the chair twice, you can push the button next to the door twice, or you can pull the string in the back which is mainly for the third row passenger's twice. YOU DON'T HAVE TO PULL THE TAB, THEN PULL THE STRING.

This Yukon doesn't even have the air suspension. The Ford Expedition has adaptive dampers and the Yukon has Magnetic Ride Control which are basically the same. The Yukon's air suspension option will be available LATER this year and will make the vehicle more expensive and less reliable since air suspensions aren't exactly the most reliable thing.
***Edit: Also, since the Yukon is so new, it is much harder to find a good deal on one, but with the Expedition, Ford dealers always have amazing offers. My local dealer is selling an Expedition Platinum RWD for $65k USD. Now, don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the new Yukon, but for the much better price and slightly outdated interior, I am just fine with the Expedition.

It could be cause the expedition is a turbocharged engine. I’ve heard from a lot of people that the ecoboost is sluggish. Which makes sense. You need time for the turbo to spool up and build boost. It doesn’t have the instant power of a large V8

I’ve driven both and though the GMC looks nicer, the Expedition feels and drives much better. The Expedition also has more useable room for comfort. You should have compared the Platinum as it’s in the same class. Ford is now behind when it comes to infotainment and the camera technology in the GMC is much better than the Ford but it took them almost a decade of dated interiors and tech to get here. Ford still has automatic parking which GMC can’t touch.

If ford made a supercharged 5.0 version it would certainly be a nice option. Likewise if GM offered the Denali and Escalade with the 495hp LT2 or 650hp supercharged LT4... You'd see more than a few of those driving around. An LT4 Denali would probably be a sub-4.0s 0-60.

Good video but your comparing a 2020 to a brand new 2021 Yukon. Also when comparing the screens on the second row. The one you had in it is a 2000 option. It’s not standard. Also your comparing the top of line gm not to the top ford. You need to compare the Denali to the expedition platinum. That model has 400 hp. King ranch is a step down from the top expedition. Ford will be updating the expedition for 2021 like the f150 with a bigger screen. The Denali also has wireless car play ford doesn’t. The Denali is superior because it’s new.

You said expedition doesn’t have
the rear eNtertainment but neither does the Yukon. The are options on both. You also did the seats in the second row of the Yukon wrong. All you have to do to fold them is press the button on the side and it does it automatically

    • @robertkamanzi9147
      @robertkamanzi9147 Před 3 lety

@roger B I agree with the apples to apples comparison statement. Unfortunately, most reviewers have a limited network of dealers that allow them a brief review of their car (still for sale at the dealership, as the Yukon clearly was still with plastic covers for the seats). In a perfect world, he would have a Expedition Platinum with the upgraded power of 400 hp and Yukon Denali in their best offerings, but we have what we have. I appreciate all these reviewers who go the extra mile to access these vehicles for our enjoyment. Of course, in a perfect world I would have liked true measurements (non manufacturers’ measurements like measuring tape comparisons since the cargo space seems to be identical with my eyes, but on paper there is a 4-5 cubic inches difference, real world rear seat headroom, legroom, little things like that) would have been appreciated, but at the same time, I understand non only the difficulty to procure the vehicles (Yukon’s are still selling like hot cakes), but also the COVID-19 restrictions that have been put in place at every dealership for good reason. YOUR STATEMENT HAS VALUE, times are just a little too tough, we are still living in the post (not really post) COVID-19 reality filled world.

Ive seen and liked quite a few of your videos. I'm sorry, but this one wasn't good brother. First, you should have compared the Expedition to the Tahoe as it is more of its direct competitor. GMC, specifically the Denali is definitely a more high end vechile. Ford, like Chevy, are entry level vehicles. The denali would have been better suited with the navigator or the ridiculously overpriced platinum expo.
With that said I'd love to see a comparison of the 21' navigator black label vs. The 21' escalde. Caddy really outdid themselves, as lincoln did when the new navi was redesigned.
As for the review itself. I felt it was very confusing. You were all over the place. Kept going from topic to topic, then back again. Talking about one vechile and showing the other, or speaking of one without specifying which you were talking about. Not getting the exact specifics of each and not showing the comparisons of each, like side by side. Even your finishing statement of which one was better was confusing. U like the expo but only if its discounted but like then you like the yukon better but probably would get the Navi or aviator instead, which the aviator isn't in the same class.. Lol. I understood the overall message because I know these vechiles very well but for the average consumer they were probably super confused. No offense, this one to me was a miss but your other videos are good. Take care my friend 👍🏼

this from Motor Trend "The Ford Expedition is the benchmark among mainstream full-size SUVs. It was the unanimous winner of our recent big SUV comparison test thanks to its impressive efficiency, roomy and comfortable cabin, and quick acceleration". The 3.5 EcoBoost is a beast of a motor and the tow ratings are highest in class. Really can't see where you are coming from saying it is underpowered. You sir, are all alone in that estimation. All professional auto reviewers, even if they don't like the Expy, at least acknowledge that the EcoBoost powerplant is more that able to handle all you can ask of it.

My point is simply that since they started putting the EcoBoost in the Expedition it has beaten the GM version SUV in both 0-60 and 1/4 in every race you can find, even when you upgrade the GM version to the 6.2. To say that the Ford is underpowered is simply not true and shows bias. Truth be told, I enjoy even slightly biased reviews because they can dig a little deeper to find the good stuff I want to know, but at the same time, I do want to know the reviewer's bias.

the problem with ford engine is that it will not last as long as GMC's Engine. you have certain amount of metal and in order to get more horse power out of it you have to create stronger explosions (using twin turbo) and this will cause premature metal fatigue. In the GMC, this power is distributed between 8 cylinders instead of 6 in ford case.

I’m not sure I agree with your comments on the performance of the Ford Expedition as my experiences have been very different.
I’ve done extensive road trips on the GMC Yukon SLT 5.3L (5,000 miles in 2016/2017), GMC Yukon Denali (2,500 miles in Aug 2022) and the Ford Expedition (3,000 miles in 2018).
For real world daily / distance driving, the most effortless with readily accessible performance of all 3 is the Ford expedition as its twin turbo charged engine has more torque than the Denali and the SLT and critically (this is the key) peaks at much lower revs than the GMCs.
This gives it effortless heft / acceleration from walking pace / at any gear or revs with absolutely no drama or unnecessary kick downs, gear (down) changes and the accompanying engine screams (the hallmark of the naturally aspirated Yukon SLT and Denali) that can quickly become exhausting!
The ford usually stays in the same higher gear and simply uses its slug of bottom end (low down) torque to effortlessly accelerate you past slower traffic uphill with zero drama and no screaming engine, giving you a very relaxed stress free drive.
The ford was by far the easiest of the cars to hustle along by a margin, the Denali was next and the 5.3L SLT was some way behind.
The ford had good acceptable ride quality and road handling and was reasonably quiet on the road.
The ride quality and noise suppression of the 2022 Denali on its new independent suspension was a step better than the Ford and the handling was similar.
The older model 2017 Yukon ride and handling with its solid rear axle suspension were nowhere near as good as the ford but the noise suppression was more or less at par
The Ford Expedition (19mpg ave) was marginally more fuel efficient than the Yukon SLT (17mpg) which in turn was more fuel efficient than the Denali (16mpg); not loads in it!
    Lol 😂!
I’m planning (next summer) a New York to Los Angeles (East to West coast) USA road trip to include the entire Route 66 road route and from the perspective of someone who enjoys spirited driving, comfort and quiet in equal measures, I’ll be hiring a Ford expedition for the journey.
It wins on the effortlessness and ready accessibility of its performance in real world driving conditions by a considerable margin from my experience

Yukon Denali/Escalade was smaller and lighter, using the same engines, making the same hp and torque as the heavier and larger, 2021 Tahoe High Country, 2021 Yukon Denali, and 2021 Escalade. If anything, the whipping would be worse since these are heavier.

This isn’t an equal comparison. Only 3 min in and you’re informing people about 375hp (Expy) vs 420hp (Yukon). This is misleading. The Yukon Denali with all the bells and whistles should be compared with the Expedition Platinum, which makes 400hp with twin turbo. Also, putting the tow package on the Expy increases the gear axle ratio to 3.73 from 3.31, thereby materially improving the performance of the engine. The Yukon’s axle ratio does not change based on tow package, and I believe is around 3.45. From experience: I just drove a 2021 Yukon SLT for a week in FL (not Denali) and it was less powerful than an Expedition Max Platinum (extended) in terms of on road performance. The platinum with tow package will floor you into your seat when you gun the engine. It also lacked the road manners of the Expy.
Now look what I did there - it’s not an equal comparison, and I would need to drive the Denali for a true comparison.

Ford should offer Triton V8, a turbo V6 for 80K heavy SUV is ridiculous.

Ford is better and you compared 2 vehicles that are not on the same level of year. Compare that yukon with the platinum. Ford is lighter when you drive which is good when you have a big vehicle. Yukon is heavy and it tilts when you make turns which is not safe.. I will stick to ford

You should call Ford to let them know their website is incorrect so they can update their King Ranch Specs. When you make an unbiased video I’ll like it. I’m doubtful your buddies at Applewood GMC would like it. 👎👎
