I have birch tree sap every spring. Had a white Tahoe and it worked like a dream. Next I am going to do steam with the micro fiber towel over the tip. If there is any residue I will buff with a tiny bit of alcohol.
    Thanks

Thanks for posting this. I thought about using my steamer, but I was afraid it would ruin my paint. I'm giving this a shot, I hope I don't regret it.

You're welcome. Steamers have so many other uses too. They are a great tool to have and work amazing for cleaning upholstery.

I was thinking of eather a hair drier or even hot air gun on a wet towel. I do not have a steamer. I wonder if an old steam iron would work. Great idea!

That's a pretty cool idea if you don't have a steamer. I've also recently found denatured alcohol to work pretty well. I was actually using it to remove old glue from vinyl wrap and there was a couple spots of sap, so I tried it and it worked well. The results definitely vary with how badly it's been baked

@@luxurycardetailingthehamptons I've heard that alcohol is terrible for the paint, how true is that?

What type of steamer do you recommend? I have 2 cars that are covered in sap that I would like to work on.

With the amount of sap currently on my caf this would take hours. Going ti try malco sap see how that goes. Worst case i guess ill buy a steamer. I almost used alcohol but i cant get a clear answer on whether it harms paint

Since this video I've found denatured alcohol to be the best way to remove sap. I've done it dozens of times without issue. Even made a video about it, but the algorithms don't want to push that one. czcams.com/video/0-ITMrbE1aw/video.htmlsi=SUztAGqEPB6dCk0m

I've used it a few times and haven't had any problems. It's a max of 212°. A black car in full sun can easily see 170° or more.

If it has a raised area left that’s paint not sap. Alcohol is way faster. I seen in this video that there was no raised spot left so I thought maybe you knew something I didn’t. I went out and bought a steamer because of this video. Raised areas that the alcohol left behind weren’t phased by the steamer. They were soft so I thought they were sap. I scratched one with my nail. Took paint off. The alcohol has the same results but actually fully dissolves the thick sap instead of smearing it around. I wanted this to work so bad.

    • @luxurycardetailingthehamptons

I don't see why not. As long as it makes enough steam to go through a towel and melt the sap. I'd also think you've got nothing to lose by giving a try. Good luck and I hope it works for you.
