Flax is not cut down when it is harvested. It is PULLED UP so that the fiber in the root is not lost. Fiber runs from the top of the plant all the way to the root. Always pull flax from the ground if you are growing it at home as I have.
New linen has a subtle sheen to it. We were told at school to starch it and iron on the right side to duplicate the sheen of new linen. Wool by contrast is matt when new, and shininess is a sign of age and wear. The best way to wash both wool and linen is by hand in luke warm water, rinse in luke warm water, but use the spin dry to get the water out. In a spin dry, centrifugal force presses the fabric against the drum with no agitation at all. Better than squeezing it in your hands.
Linen clothing are being made to be worn in the winter months which consist of a thicker linen of many layers of linen. I have notice that the winter linen does not wrinkle that much due to the thickness. However, the winter linen is very expensive; prices start at $130 for a dress, $98 for a skirt and pants, $88 for a top.
Very well spoken. Thanks for spelling retting. So often people assume they can speak quickly over an unfamiliar word and everyone will get it. My question is, can I use fabric softener?
The new washing machines are weight by the clothes, so adding more water can not happen. I use the delicate cycle or hand wash cycle, hang my linens clothing to be dried, iron and using organic liquid linen spray with all kinds of scents. I have no problem with my linen clothing. It seems the folks on the east coat wants linen to be without wrinkles and the folks on the west coast love wearing their linen in their natural state. Linen is suppose to be wrinkle and the sun will also remove some of the wrinkles out while wearing the linen clothing. I also use the cleaners when I have a linen lined pants, dresses, skirts and certain tops. However, you just use the cleaners once a year for your very expensive outfits, because when you arrive home you take the linen clothing off and rehang them.
Thanks for a great video! I love linen and have always tumble dried mine to make it softer (never thinking it would harm them or shorten their lifetime). I ordered a rough quality linen bedspread through Etsy and wanted to wash it myself before I started using it. The website said to straighten and hang to dry, however I stupidly tumble dried it (on low heat) after washing, and a lot of lint came off, and when taking it out of the dryer and shaking it lots of small particles covered the air. I hope I haven't ruined it? I will contact the small business I ordered it from but I thought I'd shoot the question here too. Any help is appreciated!
ok, I have a question. does a cut of linen from the fabric store have a lot of sizing on it like some other fabrics? I want to use a heavy sewing pure linen as painting canvas. Any tips?
My favorite linen pants accidentally made into the dryer. On high for about 40 minutes before I realized they were in there. Is there absolutely any way to get them stretched back out to their original size? :(
Try soaking them in luke warm water for half an hour or so. Dryers can dehydrate fibres, taking the natural moisture out, which makes all the fibres shorter. I haven't tried it, but it seems logical to try to get some moisture back into the fibres.
My linen tshirt turned yellow from spot cleaning with oxiclean stain remover :( is there any way i can save it? I tried vinegar, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide... nothing helped. Thank you
Oh no!! I’m so sorry! If they aren’t lined, then you can try to “block” them a little. While they’re wet, gently pull them back into shape-particularly where they are snug or shorter. If they are lined, you might take them to the dry cleaner. Have them block them without hot pressing them. I hope this helps! Good luck!!! Keep me posted.
Dry cleaners dont use harsh chemicals. you can throw in a Kleenex tissue paper and it will come out in one piece UNLIKE putting it in water. Also dry cleaners are a business so they dont use hot water unless necessary because it cost more money to use hot water vs. cold.

Was baffled about caring for linen, but with this information, said so well, it cleared it all up

How about a comforter cover? Can I put it on the dryer after washed?
Darn. I just sent my linen blend shirts to get dry cleaned since I saw a circle P on them. Are the shirts ruined?
that was a very helpful video, I just have one question, would you treat a piece the same if it says dry clean only?
Yes, if it's 100% linen, I would.
Can you use anything like washing liquid or power does that help to choose the right washing liquid i understand let your washing hang on something
What about bedding? How do you dry it? I live in an apartment. I can't air dry it
How do u whiten your linen shirts? A normal wash with detergent will not remove the yellowish or dirt stains. What do u recommend?
Do you know anything about viscose???
Thank you... "from Egypt"
Does linen shrink, when you wash it , have just brought a Jade linen shirt 👕 . Thank you .
Actually flax is harvested from the roots, as they also have linen fiber, not cut down to harvest
How do I whiten it I found a linen suit from a thrift store but it's dingy and looks dirty I got it for $10

What does Mild detergent mean?.
No harsh chemicals/no bleach etc
Natural detergent
can I use bleach and put it in the dryer by itself?
Will linen shrink in wash?
I have been asking that as well , but no one has answered me yet haha .
My linen pants shrunk what do I do?!?!
they do not cut it down, they pull the whole plant up, including the root.
Sorry no ironing for me
That's why I dont wash my linen ever! Just let it become organic and natural. I find that I get more room at Costco.

Are you interested in black men by chance
