  • This farmhouse style round white oak table has a secret! That is, the built-in self-storing butterfly leaf is a nice, functional surprise. This video shows how I built this custom table from start to finish- a split extending table top, base with bridle joints, mortise and tenons, and sliding dovetail joinery, and folding butterfly leaf with hidden hinges mortised into the edges

Thank you- and I definitely used a few of your tips from your table top video to get that apron

Hey everyone, just a quick reminder about table saw safety from someone who's been around the block a few times. Even if you're experienced like me, never, ever put your hands between the blade and the fence when ripping boards. It's tempting, I know, but it's seriously risky. I learned this the hard way in 2012 when I had a bad accident. It took me two years, five surgeries, and over $300k in medical expenses and lost income to recover. Trust me, it's not worth it. Use push blocks and keep those hands clear of danger. Stay safe, folks. 🚫✋

Awesome build and awesome T shirt. I’m also local to Paul B 😂

Paul B! I never thought I could love a hardware store, then Paul B opened their Mechanicsburg location and I fell head over heels on day one 😂

I just found your channel. Where did you find your hinges for the center leaf? I'm looking to build a new expansion table for my new home.
Thanks for sharing! Great work ❤❤

The actual hinges in the leaf are SOSS hinges- you’ll have to do your research to determine the model that’ll work with your material- they have different models for different thicknesses.

You sell the plans for this table. I would be interested in them. Thanks and great job

Nice job. 2 questions, where did you get the design and hardware for the slides? That looks really smooth.
I see you have a 15" planer. I am looking at a 20" 5hp and not 100% I would use all its power so do you think that planer is powerful enough to run oak continually?

The table slides are the “Equalizer” slides from Osborne Wood Products- you definitely have to plan on how you will be able to mount the slides and keep room for the expanding movement.
As for a planer, anything above a “standard” lunchbox planer with a universal motor can and will be able to run hardwoods all day long with no problems. The cast-iron units have induction motors that are quieter, more efficient, and more powerful that can run for longer periods of time.

Do you happen to have plans and material list?

Wtf..I am watching to see how the slide from which the table is pulled out and then expanded is made...but it was not shown...the important part is not in the video...damn my luck
