0:00 Intro
0:05 If the oil pump was not damaged on installation, the engine would still have been fine, but since they damaged the oil pump vanes, the engine had no oil going to the bearings which scored them.
"The oil pump is responsible for conveying the oil for engine lubrication and building up the oil pressure in the lubrication system."
0:25 The customer only replaced the tire on the main wheel and declined all other repairs.
0:42 The technician said they must have hit something on the driveshaft quite a while ago before bringing it in as it was starting to rust. The driveshaft got replaced.
0:52 "In Norway there are very strict rules on summer tyres and winter tires. when I jacked up this car to fit the summer tires. then this met me. The customer has therefore been driving with this for a long time. the bolts are just gone. but I found the right bolts and fixed it for the customer for free. I also changed the tires."
1:02 From the looks of things they must have used an impact gun or battery/air-powered tools to tighten the transmission pan bolts. Why it's always important to start bolts by hand and then just torque them to manufacturer spec.
1:25 The silicone was all removed and the coolant leak was repaired.
1:32 The technician said once he told the customer what he found, he never heard back from the customer after that.
1:45 Lifted jeep, had a fake snorkel installed on it.
1:53 No extra info.
2:03 Looks to be the wheels of an older-generation truck. The customer modified them himself, but that was the cause of the vibration that the customer had.
2:10 Corrosion brake line recall it came in for, and that's when the technician found the broken/rusted brake rotors.
2:21 A good reason to take photos if you're new to working on vehicles so you can remember on how stuff goes back together.
2:30 No extra info.
2:43 1998 Mercury Marqui. The technician said it was the first time he has seen anything like this and thankfully they came in before something bad happened.
3:01 Customer declined repairs.
3:07 Took 3 years to completely transform this old Ford. The person who did this is a cabinet maker by trade. The body is all made out of wood and does not have any metal.

That reminded me of an incident years ago where a coworker of mine picked up some kind of substance - a goo really - at a water treatment plant that got all in his tires and destroyed his tire balance. It was a real job to get it all out and we never did figure out what it was or how it got there because I had followed him around the plant in another another vehicle that day and didn't get any on my tires.

funny !
Every time I watch these videos it makes me realize how good of a mechanic I've been for the past 40 years.
Every time I watch these videos I realize how much of a perfectionist I am when it comes to taking care of my things.
Every time I watch these it scares me to know some of these vehicles are still on the road daily. :)
@@tradde11 No doubt, downright terrifying to think they are on the road around anybody.
@@ErickaC-mc7vg And yet, they don't see this as a problem. Seems about right? /s
If you need a video to justify yourself in a trade you've been in for 40 years....... I'd rather not be unprofessional and insult you.
That truck with the wood shell is gorgeous.
Yes.
You said it. I don't know if its better to admire it or drive it.
Probably drives pretty fast too, considering there's no metal
Looks like a pretty bathtub.
it isnt wood, its a wrap. its like a big sticker.
Some of these complaints by the customers are insane. He used the radio as an ashtray and now wonders why it doesn't work.đź
Bruh prolly doesn't even know that cigarettes cause cancer
I think the only thing wrong with some of those vehicles is the owner having a few screws loose!! I would hate to see what the inside of that person's house looks like. Probably a mess and nicotine stains everywhere. A place where my sister moved in once was not a mess but you could tell the previous occupant was a smoker. There was slightly sticky yellow stuff on everything. It is nicotine. It was tedious getting that off everything in there. Thankfully most of it was in the kitchen. It was disgusting!
Being that they are roaches from all the joints they smoke, they are obviously too high to realize thatâs not an ashtray đ
Those look like regular filtered cigarette buds thoughâŠ
There are a lot of people out there that donât need drugs to do stupid things đ€
Smokers are a dis-gus-ting bunch.
Four words that send a cold shiver down my spine: Customer Declined All Repairs.
At the very least the shop needs to make them sign a waiver to release the unsafe vehicle to them. Insanity.
My guess is that they prolly gonna go scrap ir
They should be reported to the authorities for attempted murder
Here in Canada or at least in my province the shop can refuse to return your vehicle until it is roadworthy. It seems to be a new thing and some shops are abusing it for example fender well rust on a truck may injury a pedestrian. But overall it's sensible to not allow a vehicle on the road if it's not safe to drive it or may endanger other people.
Many times it means in my shop, vehicle not worth repairing, but a different one.
I ripped out a driveline once. Had a load of wood on the truck going up the side of a creek bank in granny gear in 2wd. Started hopping and before I could react, the driveline twisted, the splined end pulled out, and it started banging on the floor. BANG BANG BANG! Had to walk 5 miles home, and do all the repairs out in the woods. I kept that twisted, crumpled driveline for years as a reminder to not drive my vehicles so hard.
Something similar happened to a building contractor customer I had while they were building a house up in a mountain. The road they had build to get up there was good and smooth but the slope is quite steep and one day they were hauling some supplies up there and the drive shaft twisted up but luckily for him it was the part between the carrier bearing and gearbox an he was going slow so the repair was minimal, it was also a 2wd and he was just pulling off
That should not even be possible!
How can the engine have more torque than the drive shaft?!
Gears
That Woodster is gorgeous.
Wondering if it's actual wood, or vinyl wrap..
@@snaplash I'm guessing wrap, it looks just too perfect.

An unconnected snorkel AND a warm air intake!!!???? That is like +10 performance points! Another +5 if you have a K&N sticker installed somewhere.
+20 if you have a light bar on the bumper, on the roof, and lights bolted to the hood. Bonus +10 for an american flag grille and a flag mounted on the back. Instant win with angry eyes headlights and/or color changing headlight rings. And yes, I've seen Jeeps with all of this shit piled on.
For years there was a 77 Charger (the Aussie one, not the U.S one) driving around my town with a tunnel ram scoop sticking waay out the bonnet (Hood). One day it came into the servo when i was getting fuel, and he popped the bonnet, so me and my mate wandered over to check out what this beast was packing. The tunnel ram scoop was sitting on what looked like a 12" length of drain pipe, attached to a stock 2 barrel carb, on a bog stock 318. Man we laughed.
It's a warm water intake actually when you drive through a river.
The amount of people that think a warm air intake is gonna gain them power just astounds me đ
People need to know what they don't know. I do 99% of my own stuff and usually without incident, but I'm smart enough to know when a job is above my level and to seek advice/help elsewhere.
Or they don't get the service manuals they need, or watch the likely many videos available on how to do much of this stuff. I've done alot, but always prepare up front for what tools I need and how to do it.
Same here. I do most of the work on my vehicle but I wont touch springs with a 10ft pole. Got a mechanic to change them. And as surprising as this may sound I've never changed brake discs either, so I'm getting a qualified mechanic friend of mine to show me how to do it properly. They're vital to safety so i don't wanna just get stuck in myself without fully knowing what I'm doing as I don't want to miss something. These new owners manuals do not give anything useful anymore.
@@bailey125TBH if you have a repair manual and the proper tools brakes and Discs arenât a problem at all. The first time I worked on brakes I made sure to not replace them all so I can test them and if they donât work I still have the ones that I didnât repair / replace. But brakes are relatively simple so if youâre not totally untalented its an easy fixâŠ
Most jobs I canât do are because of missing the proper tools, for example as the other one said I wouldnât work on springs as I donât have the compression tools. I think the hardest jobs are diagnosing and doing bodywork as it requires more than just replacing partsâŠ
@@Simoxs7 Yeah that's true, but I still think it's better to be on the safe side and have someone there with me who knows what they're doing. That way I can learn how it's done and I can do it on my own next time.
I've done a full turbo-back downpipe, sport GPF, backbox on my own, I've done an intercooler upgrade on my own, and a bunch of other smaller things, all of which I had no idea what I was doing but I just figured it out as I went along. Brakes I don't think I should mess with without knowing exactly what to do.
@@bailey125 Drum brakes are much more fun the first time. The main thing I remember reading and being told is do ONE side at a time. Don't disassemble both or you have nothing for a reference. Also helps to have the right tools. The first one I did was a bear as I was trying to hold it all together (springs and all) as I reassembled it. What I learned by the 2nd is just let it hang as it is. Each spring put back in will pull it closer to how it should be. Disk brakes are pretty easy compared. Never done those with anti-lock brakes though. I've done lots of stuff, but my Dad was a mechanic so that helped. Rebuilt an engine once tearing it totally down. That was fun, but I prepared myself by reading about that particular engine and what to do and not do. It's always enjoyable when you can do the work yourself, but good to know when you are beyond your skill level too.
As you know I am a retired mechanic of 30 years.... all I can do is just shake my head....

as we know? Who are you meant to be?
Some repairs should legally be beyond "declined."
Sometimes âdeclinedâ means ârun away screamingâ.
Yes! If the car is obviously unsafe and the customer declines repairs, let them know that the car can only be removed from the shop by a tow truck (and call the cops beforehand to let them know of such a removal in case there's trouble). I'm sure a legal technicality would allow the customer to demand that it be unhooked after it leaves the shop premises but, the customer will still have to pay the minimum towing fee and the shop cannot be held liable for the unsafe car.
We used to push them into the street at the customer's request if they didn't want to pay a tow fee to get the auto home. We wouldn't let them drive on our lot. It's their choice once it's off our property, ours until then.
@@thewesty101 That's a fair compromise.
I've been in the auto business for 20+ years. In NY you can pass state inspection with bad ball joints which in my opinion is way worse than a headlight out or torn wiper blade which makes you fail.
Just want to let you know how much i appreciate your editing. A lot of these clips look like they were filmed in portrait but your careful use of zoom and crop means its really not that noticeable. Good job!
Oh yeah good point. Itâs so well done I never noticed until you said. Sweet.

@@fPonias1 Ha ha! I agree. We humans have two eyes, not one.
Replacing like for like in the same position and putting back all removed bolts, makes a huge difference.
I had to rewatch that 2nd one a couple of times for it to really sink in. I mean, how do you install a spare backwards, and, not notice that something's not right before driving off?
Haha ya that one must have made quite the noise for a bit.
They also hit a curb on the way to the shop. The owner is an idiot, that's all.
Same here. I commented on how I couldn't believe the idiot was able to jack up the car and replace the tire. They get that far then put the spare on backwards? WTF! They walk among us...be careful and aware. LOL
At least they didnât keep driving on the rim of the flat, thatâs something Iâve seen on this channel more than once.
I can sort of understand⊠hereâs why: Unlike a regular wheel, thereâs no âobviousâ finished, fancy side that faces out on a donut spare. Further, I can understand why someone might think putting it on backwards would keep it clear of the hub/rotor/caliper. Finally, if it was a rear wheel and the parking brake was set during the swap, one might not think to give it a test spin, or if they tried, attribute the stickiness to the brake.
Especially if it was done at night, in the rain, by someone who isnât much of a car person, Iâm pretty sympathetic.
1:02 I know people who are this stupid. Somehow they have no grasp of keeping track of the hardware when they take something apart, then instead of finding something that will work they just grab something and force it or drill new holes. It's insane watching someone getting angry trying to force the wrong bolt into a hole with an impact, then step back acting all satisfied with themselves when they strip the hole and it goes in.
One of the previous videos on this channel had wood screws replacing head bolts and I was screaming internally.
I appreciate the palate cleanser at the end of each episode.
I need it to bring my blood pressure down.
Not sure how a " mechanic " can install an oil pump wrong , and then fill the engine with lucas stabilizer đ€Š . Last clip , excellent work , kinda gives a new meaning to " woody "
Sounds like the customer did that one đ cause I'd be going back to the "mechanic" who did it lol
Iâll bet most of the time when someone brings in a disaster like that and blame it on âanother shopâ, the perp is really the customer or their cousin or buddy etc.
â@@Sashazur where I live there are unqualified mechanics working at the repair shops because there are so few qualified. Anyway, I DIY as much as possible because that way I know my own car and also care more than some mechanics.
In that clip, the shop that installed the oil pump got what they deserved.
I would never use lucas stabilizer on any engine built in the past 20years.
I've changed tires and oil...am ready to rebuild a transmission.
Wow Im actually really impressed with the guy who was able to install the tire on backwards. That takes a lot of work and dedication to go against physics and reason!
I have seen a few out lug nuts on backwards .I wanna now how they tightened them at times

Great way to spend this holiday weekend watching my favorite channel . One thing about dash cams , customer installed , as good as this one here , or factory installed is every time you turn on the ignition the camera comes on and be sure or just assume the customer will look at the footage when they get the car back . A former employee from the detail department got caught doing nothing but a quick wash on a customers car that had a dash cam , a shop meeting quickly happened after that incident ..
Surely you're allowed to disconnect or disable them once they're in the workshop?
I know in most of Aus we are allowed to unplug them.
@@aspergerio Its funny you brought up this exact point . Had this conversation with management the other day , some cameras you can pull from the lighter but some are hard wired . Personally i have nothing to hide and take pride in my work but i cant stand knowing i will be examined and judged by someone i gave no permission to , by someone who may or may not understand my job , so i unplug at strategic moments when possible if not i put the hoist higher . Not sure of the legality either with being filmed without permission but i feel this topic will be up for debate in the coming future ..

The sad thing is that a lot of states don't do mandatory annual safety inspections. Imagine these clowns coming down the road and they lose control of their vehicle when something breaks. The scarier thing is that some people are not insured. I wonder what you do then. Visit their home with the Sheriff and sell all their belongings to pay for the damages and resulting bills once you sue them and get a judgement? So what they don't have enough, maybe their house and car can be sold too! If not you could put a lien on them so that any money from them would go to paying their judgement even if it is still not enough. Garnish their bank accounts too, while you might not be able to take all of it you may be able to take a percentage of any money going in.
@@charleshines2142 Fuck state/government inspections. Total money grab and does nothing for the safety of the public. Go to states that do have them and youâll find the same shit. Man I stress so damn much when I am in a situation where I have to allow an unsafe angry customer to leave in a car with failing brakes. As a low tier oil bitch I had no say in anything besides pointing out what was falling apart. Had a few I had to back out of the shop that I wasn't sure would stop once it started rolling off the alignment rack and into the parking lot.
GOD THE STRESS!!
Sorry about the stress, I can imagine. Iâm curious, was there a policy where you worked, like did they make the customer sign anything saying they were warned but declined repairs etc? I do know that some quick service places can be scammy, I remember a muffler place telling me my car needed thousands in repairs, and my trusted mechanic said it was all BS.
Sorry for your stress. You can't fix stupid. :)
Don't worry about it. It's their arrogance, bad decisions and lack of responsibility.
@@toomanyhobbies2011 I wouldnât stress about them, but rather anyone else in that car with them, and anyone sharing the road with them.
@@Sashazur Yes. I'm friends with several x mechies. If the car was in such disrepair that the shop wouldn't work on it, from a legal POV they made the customer sign a release form releasing the shop from any liability, which I'm sure would befall the customer after cornering above 5mph. The shops wouldn't give you your car back without inking the release. Because these types of shitty customers will always want stuff for free and try and sue you to fix the damage they caused for free.
The amount of carpentry skill needed to do that is incredible
No trees were harmed it's a great paint job

I also installed my own front and rear dashcam, but I followed the instructions and hid the cables properly. First one. Looks like a 2014-2019 5.3 engine. You have to be very careful when installing an oil pump on those. Alignment of the pump is crucial and if done wrong can lead to damaging the pump.
Sadly, I can say that that transmission case looks familiar, but I knew enough about what I was doing to salvage it. Probably 15 years ago, I was going to change the transmission fluid in my 1999 Suburban prior to heading out on a 1200 mile trip to Florida with my wife and kids at Christmas. The first pan bolt snapped off, so I very carefully worked the remaining ones back and forth to remove them. Unfortunately, the threads from the case came out with half of the remaining bolts, I ended up heli-coiling 8 of the 16 bolt holes. I also noticed that the original bolts were property class 4.6 -- weaker than SAE grade 2. I hadn't previously realized that metric property classes went that low, and I never before or since encountered corroded pan bolts. The Suburban itself wasn't even rusty at that point, so who knows...
I agree, the bolts should realistically have been 8.8 grade. Cheapskates.

Wood truck, GORGEOUS! We do A LOT of off road with Jeeps in southern Arizona and I have killed a few driveshafts in my life. Never bent one quite like that.
That one using the infotainment screen area as an ashtray. I think I just facepalmed so hard I gave myself a concussion...
I can't understand people that decline brake repairs when their brakes are practically nonexistent. Not that I understand people that decline many other repairs either, but brakes are pretty essential to be able to drive safely.

brakes!
Brakes. Not Breaks.
@@hillppari Oops, fixed
I suspect most people end up going some place else, for cheaper. Well, maybe not most but a lot. I've walked into some shops, always recommended by a friend or family, and they always try and scam me. About 15 years ago, my car suddenly started running awful on my way to work. Ex sent me to a shop his coworker recommended. Shop came back with a list of issues, but the main cause they said was a bad catalytic converter. Wanted 850. for repairs just for the cat, 300. alone for the part. I had worked at a dealership when I was 18, and I thought that was kind of high, so limped home. Bought a new cat under 100. had it installed for 50. at different shop. Didn't fix the problem. That shop couldn't figure out the problem. Stopped in a local shop almost in tears just fed up, and owner said did anyone check your spark plugs? That was it. First recommended shop was going to charge me 800. for a tune up. That has been my shop I go to ever since; not the greatest, but I trust the mechanic and mostly trust the owner. I have since and continue to educate myself on my cars and usually know before going in what's wrong and how much it's going to cost me. And if it's something I can do myself, I do. And, I know my limits.
I've seen a car that definitely had the same issues as the spoiler one here. They had bolted a spoiler onto their sedan, with the trunk of the sedan having a curve, but the spoiler's plates being flat. Obvious gap around the base that would definitely leak.
The all wook pickup & the last page, upper left, super cool.
Thank you so much for putting the eyebleach back in as your last clip.
Now that's a woody! Hurray for homemade repairs!đđ
That's what she said
That Woodster made all the anxiety worth it!!!
the best "customer states" video I've watched thus far. subscribed.
The Woodster is gorgeous!đ
Every time I watch one of these videos I'm grateful I live in a country that require mandatory control inspections of vehicles. Thanks to it, my life expectancy certainly is longer when driving.
As always after I watch your videos, I still say humans be stupid and that is dangerous stuff! The best of this video was the all wood pick up truck at the end.
3:07 - when you can't find replacement body panels.
After watching, and enjoying, MANY of your videos, I now understand why some auto repair shops have signs that read something like this, "Labor charge $100 per hour. ($150 per hour if customer helps".) BTW, that Ford Woodster was at one time supposedly owned by a "splinter group".
After seeing that dashcam installation I no longer feel bad for mine!
My setup goes through the center console trim into the glove box door, up into the passenger door trim into the windshield pillar (no airbags in the pillars)đ for the most part you cant see it unless you open the glove box lol.
That lucas oil stabilzer really does work, and it does raise oil pressure, although its definitely not gonna fix a broken oil pump. It should be used at like 20 to 30 percent of crankcase capacity. That mechanic used 80 to 100 percent. That stuff is so thick. If you use it by itself its too thick to move through the engine. But for something like a differential, you could use 80 to 100 percent.
I suspect the Lucas is what damaged the pump. Customer probably had a "low oil pressure" warning light caused by a bad sender and/or a clogged screen beneath it, and either got ripped off for a new oil pump or diagnosed it himself. And when the pump didn't fix it, they added all that Lucas. Congrats! NOW it needs an oil pump.
I use it in my IROC-Z28, 1 quart stabilizer and 4 quarts Mobil 1. It does help with leaky valve seals.
Ok that woodster it's amazing!! I have never seen anything like that!!
Man, these are always awesome!

People like this are why we have directions on shampoo bottles
Last time I looked it didnât say âdo not drinkâ! I always thought that the ârepeatâ in âlather, rinse, repeatâ was just to get people to use up the shampoo faster. Unless you want to strip every bit of moisture out of your hair, one round is enough.
The silica packs that come with new electronics that say "Do Not Eat"
Can a shop stop someone from driving off in a vehicle deemed a total hazard?
Not where I live. You can just recommend them towing it away or call a peace officer and informing them of the vehicle so they can further look into it.
Depends. In some places they're legally prohibited from letting an obviously unsafe vehicle back on the road, in others the customer can take it out if they sign a release form to the effect of "I confirm that the shop did their due diligence warning me about the insanely stupid shit I'm about to do therefore they can't be held liable for the consequences".
The problem with allowing a shop to prevent a customer leaving in an unsafe vehicle, is that dishonest businesses would obviously abuse that as much as possible, to scare people into getting needless expensive repairs.
@@GaldirEonai I really wish the form used that statement instead of the legal verbage.
@@Sashazur That's the way it works in most countries as they have an MOT, so if a car is unsafe, it is no longer insured. This isn't taken lightly and the car has to be reregistered through a government inspection. If it turns out the repairs weren't necessary, the shop is in trouble. As maintenance is a requirement to pass MOT, most shops are slammed with work and don't need to scam people. Those who do don't survive because there are many good shops around. I'm not saying there aren't scammers, but there are many more checks and balances in place in a decent system.
The scamming problem is part of not having an MOT. Make an MOT mandatory with the right legal framework and you won't have many issues.
That last sweet truck.... do i bring it into your shop if it gets termites? Or the local Home Depot?? Lol
I love your content, but your end credit features are breathtaking!
As always the best of the worst customers auto repairs. đđ»đđ»đđ»đđ»đđ»
Thanks your videos are amazing, awesome and always enjoyed here at our home. Please keep them coming, we always look forward to them.
0:34 How, how can you install a spare tire backwards, how in the fuck that happened, even monkey could install it properly.
Truly unbelievable.
Love the "woodie" @ end of video!
Love the 53 Mercury truck at the end, it's nice to see Canadian models!
Never heard of getting a "new transmission case". It will be a whole new transmission, I would think.
Just the case you can get for transmissions and swap the internals over. We did it on a buddy's truck who had a u-joint break and cracked the casing. Replaced some clutches while it was apart but the rest was good.
some of you people in the comments are worse than the customers
@@darkdreams1589 I know very little about mechanical stuff, the comments really teach me a lot. Donât be too hard on people like me.
@@JustRolledIn I think labor costs at a shop would make that unfeasible versus just swapping in a rebuilt transmission.
@@bills6093 I'm sure the technician gave the customer a couple of options. Don't know the full story besides what I was told.
It's insane to me that America doesn't have an MOT in most states. None of the mechanical issues seen in any of these video's would be possible in most of the world. Imagine the amount of lives that would be saved if these lethal cars were not on the road.
I looked it up and apparently only about 12% of vehicle crashes in the USA have a mechanical cause. So any government resources that would go to MOT or equivalent are better spent on things like driver education, anti drunk driving enforcement, road improvements and so on.
@@Sashazur "Only" 12%.
That's every 8th to 9th accidents.
@@XtreeM_FaiL I agree itâs not negligible. But I would rather my tax dollars go towards trying to prevent drunk driving and other much more common causes of crashes.
@@Sashazur Nice tought but things do not work like that. People drive drunk no matter what.
What would you do? Make it illegal to drive drunk?
Well we think monarchy's and spotted dick is weird! So neener neener!
a wooden ford model-A pickup! made all the cringe go away. love it.
Oh my gosh i want that Woodster at the end. It's absolutely gorgeous

JEEZ! never seen a 28 ford like that. very beautiful.
That 28â Ford is absolutely stunning!
That woodster is magnificent!
