Ashley looks a lot bluer in the legendary edition
It's because she's sad to be replaced with an alien. What?
an upgrade if u ask me xD
lol, I'm blue da ba dee da ba daa, da ba dee da ba daa😆
Did you mean Miranda Ashley wasn’t even in this video.
@@joemomma3988 Ash was in the original ME2 opening cutscene. She was replaced by Liara in the legendary edition of the same (due to playthrough differences, not changes to the game). That was the joke. 1:43
Damn it's still insane that the original Mass effect 2 still looks good to this day
Nah
Tldr: you can't easily see the difference between x polygons and 8x polygons if x is already really big.
Yea but it's also expected. I could go into detail, but the gist is that you see diminishing returns in "quality" as you keep doubling the number of polygons.
32 polygons will look much better than 16, 64 will look much better than 32, but at some point, you will have difficulty to tell the difference between one and another. Being able to "tell the difference" is also made harder when you introduce lighting, motion, texture on polygons, etc.
The newest console generation is also very recent, so devs have not made optimizations you see on mature platforms. This is also why new console games/generations only look a little bit better than the last games/generation.
Well it is the pc version.
Really ?? I think it has aged badly
@@Kekorock1 it's not. Xbox Series X.
I noticed they swapped miranda ME2 model for her ME3 one
She looks so much worse D:
According to the stuff they've posted before, they've done that with a lot of characters, which is a smart move when you wanna unify all these assets.
@@SorakuFett Depends. Shepard faces look more "My face is tired" in first game than the rest of them.
Anderson was okay in original, yet somehow they made him to look plastic.
How is it different? Kenneth Donnelly are you taking notes on Officer Lawson's uniform?
No they just changed the hair texture, her face is intact, you can notice it with the eyes. It's really subtle at this point.
I haven't seen ME2 intro in years. I forgot how incredible, and how cinematic it is. Top quality
They implemented some very poor ambient occlusion in the legendary edition. 3:52 for instance. Look at the poor shadowing around his hand on the legendary edition.
oh no, im never going to unsee that
Honnêtement je trouve que la LE et meilleures que l'OT sur ce truc spécifique
mass effect 2 looked amazing in 2010. it still looks pretty good even now. that's impressive. i think me2 and bo2 both still hold up as games.
It's been a long day, what's bo2 stand for again?
Hm Black Ops 2 ? I guess...
Bo2 looks like a piece of garbage,mw2 looks far better
@@dreadend6058 they both look good bro
The only problem with the lighting in the new version is it's a little too flat. The original games were going for a film look. The dramatic lighting helps with that. Improving the dimensions of the light would've probably worked better than lighting everything up and making it look more flat.
I prefer originals Instead of remasters most of the time , I don't like how remasters smooth over or sharpen everything within a game and make everything lose It's character In an effort to visually try and keep up or adapt to the times and force the design to work In a way It wasn't Intended to , It ends up looking generic. Remakes are the only thing I like and only when they're done right which Is extremely rare.
On the same boat with you.
The biggest improvement is the framerate increase, it almost looks strange at that framerate. It is looking _a lot_ sharper as well - huge improvement there but I think Maranda actually looks better on the original - her skin looks more natural.
Personally I don't agree with that assessment. Especially the lighting at the end of this videoclip is so much better and her skin gets correct colors form the surrounding light bounces. I think it's an improvement personally.
@@MMoer Yeah and skin of Shepard also looks more natural and better looking in remaster,it's not that hard to see.
@@EyefyourGf You think this 4:15 looks more natural? He looks like a fucking albino. Not even agent 47 is that pale.
@@MMoer I dunno. The removal of some of the shadows makes them look more plastic to me.
Welcome to how people on the PC played those games since their release :D
So ... ME1 looks good, no question. But here I see so many scenes where the new lighting and oversharpening makes the image looks worse. I hope we get a sharpness slider because that is WAY too much, I thought we realised that by now.
yeah, some of the shadows were nice in ME2, without them it looks a little odd but other things are noticeable so there is some improvements there.
The fact you're hoping to MAYBE get basic quality of life options on a REMASTER speaks to how shameless of a fucking cash grab this is stop supporting this people! WAKE UP
The biggest annoyance for me are the crushed blacks and way too much contrast. It was also in the original though
This really isn’t the best representation of the upgrade imo. The graphics in game look pretty good in ME2. Everything is much sharper than the original, most textures have much more depth to them and aliens like Garrus, Liara, Grunt, and Thane look incredible. Not to mention the FPS boost.
Not sure if you've played it yet, but it looks a lot better in action. As opposed to ME2 where less was done on the lighting and effects, ME1's updated lighting actually has a better look overall.
Oooh, the nostalgia! I remember when I first played this masterpiece... Life was greener, happier and there was no pandemic making our lives shittier... Can't wait to get back on Normandy!
Plandemic 😂
I’ve always been miserable lmao
Plus side, now with the pandemic you have enough time to play the trilogy a couple of times.
Or play it once, take a break to play Biomutant and then return to ME😂
The pandemic will go away someday. Don't worry.
@@davecullins1606 I'm brazilian my friend. The way things are right now, it's like our country became a giant incubator for the virus. Rumours say Resident Evil 9 will be set here.
The Normandy getting destroyed still gets me after so many years
Same here. I didn't get attached to the first Normandy, never liked the interior but its destruction was jaw dropping and brutal
@@jackiemortes true everyone has their own options but the Normandy SR-1 will always be my favourite ship
Lol, Legendary Edition is basically how you *remember* the games looked.
Yeah and? It didnt look like that its a big upgrade
pritty much, getting back to the OG is painful though, the controls and textures man ugh...
@@dovahkiin8559 it was a compliment. How many tbags did you take to the face to not realize that?
I can understand where that sentiment is coming from, but I never felt that way, especially with ME1, and to a degree am with ME2 (just started it last night with imported Shepard).
I honestly feel like these are a step up from what I remember. How MUCH of a step up is obviously debatable. But the original games had the benefit of having great art styles that, I think, aged well. Having the enhanced lighting ALONE makes these games look that much better, with the way ambient lights and shadows interact with characters now
to be fair, the original ME2 is how I remember the game looking
Say what you will about Jacob, but his updated outfit looks amazing!
This goes to show just how much of a masterpiece Mass Effect was.
How did they manage to make the faces even more uncanny?
Over animated mouths and dead eyes.
Is worse than barely animated mouths and eyes because it kills simetry lol
@@alelokox88 The animations are the same in both versions
Imo they changed alot of the lighting in the game. Probably to show off the textures more. The issue is that OG ME had that lighting for a reason. It hid lower textures but also added atmosphere and depth to the characters while maintaining aesthetics. Take that away & everyone looks like they need lotion... badly.
@@es_three232 I agree, the lighting changes are really odd, they actually make the game look worse because it throws off the aesthetics. Like you said, the original lighting was an artistic choice that gave atmosphere and a cohesive visual style, just changing it to show off the textures takes away the artistic intent and takes away from the feeling of the originals. Particularly what I've seen of the first game.
LOL I bet they used the same facial animator that worked on Andromeda on this game. I’m seriously getting deja vu looking at these faces!
Why is it that line "somebody put that fire out" so memorable to me lol
wasn't it in one of the trailers?
It was the moment I said to myself: "Hey, that sounds like the kid from Family Guy."
Probably because he's asking this even though, at this point, everyone else in the room with Joker is fucking dead? lol.
@@perfectharbinger1398 and that theres an actual corpse on fire in the frame of the camera as he says that line 🤣🤣
Honestly, not sure why they changed the lighting in ME2 and lowered the contrast - it changes the atmosphere of the scene.
Agreed. Original had some dark noir taste, remake is maby a bit more realistic, but looses all the charm. Very odd decision
I know what you are saying but I can't agree. The lighting was pretty good in the original but it was inconsistent and made some scenes look great and some were just poor.
@@TheSmurf1973 I'm definitely not talking about the whole game - I think the problem is the side by side. Honestly I probably wouldn't have noticed from just playing the game but as a personal choice, I like the shuttlecraft lighting from the original a little better.
@@stevieboymkii
Yeah, I can agree with you on that. That scene was very well lit and had plenty of atmosphere because of the original's lighting.
one of the best game intros ever made
Only thing that looks odd in the remasters is the eyes.
I’ve had some lip syncing issues. And in the first game getting out of the Mako Will randomly make it so I can’t interact with anything on the map.
@@Davidofthelost yea, I really wish they would have fixed some of those old glitches lol
@@Davidofthelost had the same thing just save every once in a while and its fine. Like after you did the objective on a planet and are gonna head of to Scan. Tended to happen around the minerals for me.
@@antonhallergren588 I do the same, though I save when I step out of the Mako and that happens then reload and I’m still in the same spot with all the progress on the map. Hope they fix it though.
3:20 Meh, they ditched the blurr. I liked it, gave a dream-like quality to the sudden serenity intersecting the extreme agitation.
Game is missing many shaders and lightning effects
The Original holds up amazingly, but the work put into the Legendary Edition is..
It's mind-blowing that they managed to make the game so much cleaner, detailed, beautiful.
the word you are looking for us "Polished"
Liara's armor looks so cool in that scene.
Yeah 'armour' lol
"Lying to the Commander isn't the best way to get him to join our-"
Our? Our what, Jacob? OUR WHAT?!
I feel so lucky right now to have the unique opportunity to experience the Mass Effect franchise for the first time!
Yes you're so lucky!
Thanks for this. Now on to the ME 3 comparison which I'm very interested to see the results of. The first two are obviously improved graphics wise so I guess I should expect to see the same, but I remember 3 looking great and even they said they didn't do much touching up on it.
The lighting in Legendary looks a bit flat, makes the models look like action figures in certain scene - like when Miranda shot Wilson.
I've never played the Mass Effect games and I bought the collection on Steam. I'm playing through the first game and so far I like what I'm seeing. I don't know why I ever overlooked this series.
Enjoy yourself cause 2 and 3 will forever solidify your loyalty to the franchise
the faces in the original look so much more alive with the lightning, damn
Agreed this "legendary" edition is a fucking insulting cash grab where the may as well have just cranked the brightness to 200/100..... Seriously and to hell with anyone defending this crap . It's the reason we can't get original shit and are stuck buying the same fucking thingd FOR DECADES
Idk, I'm playing rn and the lightning in LE is so much better, especially in ME1:LE. In original I couldn't see shit while chatting on the Normandy and now there is a good lightning that actually casts shadows onto characters faces instead of whatever was in the original. Also ME1 had this weird saturation and now it's finally gone. It's just a heaven for the eyes.
You got nostaliga goggles on you. Somethings are better in the orignal, but a whole lot more is way better inte the new edition.
Some things are better, agreed, but I feel like the old one is oftentimes more cinematic because of better color composition and more dramatic light placement.
@@Peer165 the irony in your statement can't be stated enough.....go back to grade school ffs lol
Its weird, some scenes look better, but some scenes look worse. Its like a remix at best
I swear it’s weird. You’d think that two generations after the originals came out that everything would look better. Not saying a lot of it doesn’t look better, but some just looks... eh.
One thing to remember about this comparison is that the legendary edition is going to be displayed in HDR and you're looking at that footage on a SDR display, the original's contrast was setup to look good on SDR displays so it probably looks better in terms of contrast on your screen right now, but playing on a HDR capable console and display is going to look miles better.
If that's true, it's quite an interesting and important piece of information.
@@elvancor I also have tried the game in HDR, I can confirm it is a vast improvement than what you can see in this video.
A remaster so powerful it turns Ashley into Liara.
Lol Liara has always been in my cutscene. It depends on who you romance in ME1.
@@erinflynn9344 Allways be Ashley, no matter with how romance
@@scarboy5649 look it up. I can tell you that I've had Liara in the opening scene in every playthrough ME2.
@@scarboy5649 When ps3 had no mass effect 1 it was probably always Ashley, but PC and xbox version had variety.
@@scarboy5649 Incorrect. If you romanced Liara it will be Liara in cutscene
I just got the Legendary Edition today. I played the first 2 games years ago. I had stopped gaming for a long time and never got to play 3 or Andromeda. Not that I'm missing anything with Andromeda from what I've read. Anyway, super stoked to play all 3.
I like that everything looks sharper, but SOME minor moments do look better in the original. Like walking through the decompressed/blown-apart segment to reach Joker, looks better in the original with the hazy/darker visuals that makes it really feel like you're wading through destruction. While in the Legendary Edition it just looks...too clean/perfect (3:25) and slightly makes the scene feel less intense. While in the original that dark and hazy field of view gave a more claustrophobic feeling of urgency. Yet in the remaster it seems more serene and peaceful and makes me wanna stop and just stare at all the little details, rather than having any kind of sense of "THIS SHIP IS COMING APART! GOTTA SAVE JOKER!".
Said no one ever
Did they update Jacob's facial animation near the end of the video?
Textures look sharper, lightning seems better at least in some locations, also details on characters look improved, probably improved normal maps and larger textures, post processing was also changed, the things i expected from this remaster honestly, and forgot to add models are completely the same as in original obviously, and im fine with that,i look forward the most to first mass effect, but im happy 2 and 3 got some love as well, can't wait to play it.
I'm impressed with how smooth legendary looks, can't wait!
Does anyone know if LE still has the unused Legion voice lines in ME2? In the original you could edit save file to get Legion early and he would have a lot of lines throughout the game, normally not accessible due to his late recruitment? Thanks in advance.
Probably yes, they did not remove content from the game they only changed the textures and some small gameplay vice changes and if they really wanted to remove them even the original wouldn’t have them, so my guess would be that its still in it.
The faces in the legendary edition look so creepy
3:55
I liked the red in her eye in the original.
I wasn’t that impressed by the footage of ME2 in the trailers(mainly because I already thought the game looked great) but legendary edition really does make the characters and textures look a lot more natural and detailed, plus the lighting on models is a lot more dynamic
I agree with the textures, but they took out most of the shadows, which wasn’t a good move imo.
@@SteelSpurs I agree. There is no facial shadow in this video. While the original has them.
@@urazoktay7940honnêtement je trouve que les ombres faciale été assez mal gérer dans l'original et ne servez pas vraiment les personnage donc...
Lighthing from the original + textures from LE. Maybe someone can mod this. Just look at 3:52. Weird shadows in LE.
Terrible mouth movements still there.
How did you get Liara replace Asley in the opening? Never knew about that.
KK I HAVE A GRIPE ABOUT GRAPHICS COMPARISONS. Can we start instead of side by and cutting the screen in half play them like over top of each other with a cut going corner to corner. Almost like a hard edge where it changes so i dont have to look at two screens to see the difference?
Not a good idea, what would happen if you have a scene where the left side is dark, and the right side is where the light source is?
@@paul2609 fair point, maybe not use those scenes? idk though just bouncing an idea around. i think its funny that my solution to your (justified) problem is "Dont"
So how much space does it take on PC?
Why does the thumbnail look like someone merged an animation of Monica Lewinsky with Kelly Clarkson lol
After using various mods for replaying the Mass Effect trilogy, I don't see that many diffrences, excect the frame rate. If you already have bought the games, you can easily find mods to make the game look awesome. If you don't have them tho, buying the legendary edition might be the best choice for you.
They used mods as their benchmark to make sure they hit that standard at least apparently, and they’ve made Legendary available for modders to carry on with.
I bought all three games on either 360 or ps3, like thousands of others, how do I mod them?
@@Etheral101I only meant the pc sadly. It was my mistake not to clarify it on my main comment. If you have them on pc, you can easily visit NexusMods and find the mods you want to download.
@@KeytarArgonian Well, for me personally it is not worth to spent 60 euros on a trillogy I already have (I'm not try to rant the game or to disuade anyone from buiying it).
@@gigachad1926 yeah no worries I get where you’re coming from. I was undecided for that same reason, but I think it was the DLC inclusion that swayed me.. plus on the series x it was 10% off too so less than £20 per game and all DLC included, I couldn’t not.
It has nice points but I'm passing for a time. My rig is a potato but runs the trilogy like a champ, so I'll stick with what works for now, if I ever get a better setup I might get it.
I'm on ME2 right now and, although the first one was beautifully remastered, I can't get over how incredible the second one is looking!
Yeah it's looking good, but at least the German version does not play and feel that good after all..
Wait, the intro, why Liara on the Normandy? Should be Ashley or Kaidan. I'm confused here.
It's whoever you romanced during the events of ME1. That's who will show up on the ship at the beginning of ME2.
The enhancements to ME2:LE are quite subtle. Still on the fence about whether I should get it. I already own ME2 and ME3 on PC back when they originally released.
Experiencing it first hand is waay different than watching these vids. The improvements are massive.
@@intermilan9731so does the downgrades
I dunno. That shot where you see the planet above the Normandy looks better in the OG. That bloom and blur makes it feel cinematic and integrated.
Wasnt expecting them to actually make changes to the prerendered cutscenes.
they are not prerendered...the majority of Mass Effect's "cutscenes" are in engine, which is why the models look the same in gameplay, and why you get in and out of the cutscenes so quick.
@@ZeroShaneBob I'm not talking about the in-engine cutscenes.
Great memories with this game and Death space
Dunno why but I feel like the shadowing detail made the character models so much better in the Legendary edition. Still the Original game aged well in most, if not all areas
Miranda looks like Serena from Handmaids Tale.
Edit: They are both indeed played by the same person, who I won’t dare try to name.
Other than the multiple bug fixes and dlc naturally added throughout the story line. The biggest and best attribute to the legendary edition (IMO) is the loading times- or lack there of. Playing now, I realize the old loading times would negate the immersion.

The visuals are definitely an improvement but the real change comes in the gameplay All the bugs and glitches that can happen are completely overhauled making it up an unbelievably smooth Playing experience
How do I change the title to Spanish?
Apart from resoloution and higher fps it doesn't look like they did much work on the 2nd one at least. Hopefully they at least put some work into the 1st one!
What happen to Miranda at 4:13?
Personally I struggled to see that major of a difference / improvement in most scenes, some scenes looked better but some scenes actually looked better in the ORIGINAL, they looked darker and more gritty
Should've gone to Specsavers....
it's REALLY hard to choose. honestly both have great points. the outfits look MUCH better but i dunno the facial animations don't look quite as good or emotive as the original
I hope a modder makes a skin mod. Like you can get in skyrim or fallout 4. That and add some minor animations to the faces if possible. Would look so much better.
Damn Ooh La La Miranda Looks Better 😍 I know who I’m romancing in my play through.
And the graphics in the Legendary Edition are great 👍. Can’t wait to get mine in the mail!!!
Are there any different despite the visual?
Yeah, atmosphere is shit, feels worse
Honestly, I'm just happy for the AA.
You guys are misled. The footage here are mostly FMV cutscenes, on PC you can easily tell since when the cutscenes begins the GPU usage drops to 5%, stuck at 30FPS and a little bit of video artifact showing. The only actual gameplay footage here is where Shepperd talks to Liara where my GPU usage is over 90% and running over 150FPS.
Why are all comparison videos split side by side, just showing a portion of the originals? It makes it harder to read the full picture? Cant we just get the video where half the screen is the old and half is the new, but its still the whole image?
Seems like the tone down in contrast loses some of the atmosphere of the original
Even years laters Bioware still messes up the faces
it's just so CRISP dude .. miranda omg ... and jacob .... they look so CLEAN
ME2 still looks good in its original form, but damn I like the changes I could notice in the Legendary already.
the improvement r very clear over the shadow on a lot of the character face, fuck the shadow in me2 was so badly place, miranda's face was perfect example of this. but then again other then that me2 and me3 dont really need much work. it was me1 remastered at its core, as that game was most dated in the trilogy.

will mods from nexus such as Happy Ending,Ark mod and expanded galaxy be available in LE edition?
No, not unless the modders port them over to the LE, which I doubt they will. It's the reason I'm not even bothering with the LE. I couldn't imagine playing ME3 without EGM by itself let alone all the other mods that drastically improve ME3.

Is it out??
Overall I like the better textures, smooth framerate and gameplay changes they presented so far, but man... based on the footage we've seen so far, in my opinion the atmosphere just looks better in the original games. They're sterilizing all the grittyness and darkness. The shuttle ride at the end of this video is a good example. I always assumed the deep contrast and strong silhouettes were an artistic choice and made the scene more cinematic and added a cool scifi atmosphere, but the new footage just looks lighter and less 'pronounced', which makes this scene more generic. I'll probably still buy, because I love this trilogy, but I'm a little bit concerned about the visual changes
yeah but I just hope mod support will be better since then soon it will be the clearly better version. Right now some stuff looks better in old and some in new.
I dont care what it looks like, Im just glad to play them again, on my ps4. My xbox 360 is too old to be on display just to my Mass Effect.

Hopefully they can fix the weird eye textures... Makes some npc's extra uncanny valley. (There's always a bit but, it's a lot more noticeable now especially on ME1)
@Walther Penne No your right it really can't for now anyway but... it can be lessened with the right lighting and textures. The current textures/lighting makes them pop to much maybe it's Ambient occlusion idk... I've seen it do that with some ENBs on skyrim too it can be "fixed/lessened".
@Walther Penne Also I never said uncanny valley can be fixed... I only meant it could be less noticeable and exaggerated on the eye's mainly with ME1 the other ones are noticeably not as bad as ME1.
