- Initial review of our Agr-fab 48" plug aerator (45-0299-131)
We got this just the other day (April 2021) for aerating about 1.5 acres of lawn and trails. It went together fairly easy, functions as expected and though it has a few things I would like to see improved it's overall a great product appears to be a solid build.
I realize this is an older video. I just bought and used one myself and am very happy with both the quality of the metal and the lawn results after using it. And just after using the aerator, I also managed to get fertilizer out on the aerated yard right before it rained for a solid day. So I give it a big thumbs up for quality built and use... I have the Agri-Fab 40" version.
Nice! Glad you also found it to be a quality product. My only gripe is the ability to cinch stuff down by default. If I didn't end up selling it, because of moving, I would have attached some more metal loops to help adding weight easier
@@kinnell6781 I had the same problems with cinder block falling out. But I am going to make two bars to go through or over them and attach to the plate with a couple new holes drilled. Some times you have to make things work for your needs... I have no problem to make it easier and avoid any falling out weight issues.
Moisture is the key. If soil is really tight give it a couple weeks and wait for rain or water lawn then hit it again. Aerator works great! DON'T rake up plugs. And mow grass VERY short a day or so before you aerate.
It took me many hours to put together..good for you.. I found it best to use the instructions and watch a you tube video together is best..
Yo Quick tip. Frame 4 2x4 frames to the exact size you need to fit on top. 2 equal sized ones for each side. Then attach plywood to the bottoms of the frames. Mix and fill them with concrete. Also you can attach a piece of rope into the center of the concrete so that you can lift them out. Will be much heavier helping you get deeper cores.
Clean and Green Lawn Service LLC has a channel showing almost exactly what I described.
I think I saw a picture ot video of exactly what you are talking about. That feels like a good solution for later this year :)
Good Review !!! Think I'll pick one up this week, we have a couple acres to do on a new lawn - Where did you purchase from ?
Mine was the last of two they had at one of the three Fleet Farms near me.
Due to covid so many logistics pipelines are messed up that we're seeing another year of shortages, so wherever you can find one I suggest you get it. I've been waiting on a part for my DR tiller for over two months now :(
@@kinnell6781 Yes I see the short supply now , TSC said 2 weeks to order to store , Looks like Im going to have to travel 45 to a Lowes to pick up one, yeah Covid sucks - Been looking for a 6ft Bad Boy Rotary cutter for a few months and on the waiting list - really need for people to go back to work, lol . Again good video !
@@deaconnyte9748 make sure they have it or do the order for pick up. I have had FF or TSC cancel orders once they went to go get stuff and found they didn't have it in stock. 45 min isn't a bad drive. I was waiting for the "well, a TSC has it 1.5 hours from here"
I think the handle slips if it is installed incorrectly...one washer makes a big difference.
Those plastic wheels are not adequate I bought two 10 inch pneumatic wheels with steel rims from Harbor Freight, Idem #: 30900 and the axel shafts fit fine. One inch bigger in diameter wheels makes no difference. I paid for $6.99 ea. Big improvement.
Yeah, I read about some folks doing the same. I imagine I will as well
What bolts and hard ware did you use for the new wheels?
Don't back up with that thing attached to the tractor w/the tines down and concrete blocks in place. This thing has a habit of bending/tearing the tongue in half.
What did you use to make those rubber mats under the concrete blocks?
Horse stall mats. I had some left over after making some pulling blocks for my wife www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/4-ft-x-6-ft-x-3-4-in-thick-rubber-stall-mat
@@kinnell6781 Thank you for your help!
You can use your neighbors welcome mat or the mud flaps off his Peterbuilt, but a carpet sample works well too and you won't have to work under cover of darkness.
@@kinnell6781 they are nice but a bit thick for that use, don't you think? Man, did you ever try to cut through one of those big honkers? Some guy made wood boxes with handles that looked real handy. These aerators work so well everyone should have one. Maybe buy off season and get a bit of a bargain. Pay for themselves in a short time and if you have a solid riding mower a no brainer.
Do you still have the agri fab aerator ?
Yes. I'm in zone 4b though, so the ground is still frozen
