- Ever notice how games often look stunning in trailers but end up being disappointing when it's time to play? Why is that?

trailer: what the game engine could possibly render
game: what console/ most pc's can render
Paul Joshua only rich and the best can play the trailer graphic
@@thisemptyworm4677 assuming the game can actually end up looking like trailer
@@shutdahellup69420 of course
@RayRexDex Trailer: What your nostalgia will make you see.
Game: What you actually saw.
It's baseless. I have a high end pc. Dragon Age Inquisition didn't look anything like what I saw in the trailers.
And that's why we have mods, some use less resources as in the case of Fallout 4.
Wait, are you saying some graphics mods for Fallout 4 make the game look better while using fewer resources? Could you point me to them?
@@KuroHebi usually texture mods that use better file compression but has significantly higher resolution, that use less VRAM.
I love how straightforward TechQuickie is in explaining various topics
in a way that most watchers can understand, but it is not so long it's
boring. Kudos to Linus, Luke, Dennis, and Jon for TechQuickie!
Heading to the render farm instead of the corn maze this Halloween, thanks for the idea!
oh hey! Didn't think i'd see you here :>
The Hoax Hotel Hey love your videos! Keep it up!
You're in each and every comment section.
this is like seeing WrecklessEating commenting on Ghost's music videos. Yessss. Glad to see the Mugu Mangler on here.
still not as prominent as Clorox bleach
Why do his palms look like he massaged an open bag of yellow cheetos?
no its dat orange chicken
it's the rash from handling sandals... ;-)
Shit's not even funny.
Because they really suck at color correcting footage
I saw it an immediately thought my monitor was about to tank... then came here to seek confirmation that it wasn't on my end, lol
3:40 editing fail :D
Also at 0:37
the whole video is riddled with this
it's probably an issue that happened during rendering
Also at 4:47
2:44 best explenation ever amazing editing for explaining a concept
why are his palms so yellow
I've always wondered this
hahahahaha nice
I think it's a recent color rendering issue with CZcams (or whatever the term is). I've seen it on other videos where parts of faces have yellow patches.
Yellow fever
cheeky :)
Because no one would buy the games then
Looking at u, Ubisoft,EA and Activison
Lukas Safi EA graphics are on par though with the trailers
Not really, bf1 looks much better on the trailers than the actual game.
No Name do you play on console? Because on my pc it looks just as good if you remove the HUD. st quintin scar looks amazing in the rain without the HUD
because bf1 is the only game ea released
no, but seriously, bf1 doesnt look that much worse than in the trailers.
Lukas Safi battlefront looked good. Only hardline was shitty in my opinion. Other than that most trailers were pretty good.
Can you imagine a holhywood studio doing this to a movie? Like the actors are different from the trailer, the script changed, locations and so on
"Speaking of bad, you know what's bad??" - your audio jumps, Linus.
Having relentless FMV footage in advertising, masquerading as in-game footage, was one of the little things that really Playstation 1 against the Saturn and the N64.
2:09 thank you ffvii remake for keeping it real (even though it's like 4 years later lol)
4 years later, this still happens.
Never gets hyped for things again, lad.
potty simulator 2077
Diablo 4
I love the ongoing battle you guys have with lighting and color correction in techquickie vids. Yellow hands, red face, etc. lol
I love the way you relate the sponsors with your video! Great Videos btw!
It's called a transition
Valve Games using SFM for their animations (and uses in-game assets): I have no such weakness!
We already know the answer. You have to turn up the resolution, and settings, and the trailer is the result of video editing that required dozens of Gigabytes of v ram to render a few minutes of video, but took hours to complete. I'll bet you'd need 8k, or better, at ultra settings, just to get the visuals you see in the trailer. LOL if you wanted these visuals you'd need quadro m6000 $li.
2 Techquickie videos in 2 days? This is Heaven!
I remember when Tekken 3 (PS1) was still scheduled to be released the still footages shown on magazines were eye popping because I thought that was the actual game play. But turned out to be a cut scene at the beginning when Hieachi went out from a chopper.
This was clearly a reference to No Man's Sky.
No this was a reference to Ubisoft games where the graphics are never anything like what they show in the trailers. A hit on No Man's Sky would be "why is the content promised never in the actual game?" No Man's Sky didn't downgrade their graphics they shipped a half completed game.
Jrock420blam
Jrock420blam The trailer of No Man's Sky does not look like the real game.
ComicPunch
You're probably playing on a Playstation 4 or a crappy PC cause the graphics looked like the trailer on my PC. The problem was there was no content in the game and I got a refund the same day just like almost every other buyer.
Jrock420blam I probably have a better PC than you lmao.
Slight editing error at 0:37
another one at 4:07... who edited this?
ANTOHER ONE AT 4:47 XD
cool nobody cares
another at 3:40
Dammit Dennis!
Linus i would love a random segment on gaming snacks on any of your channels, i know you are not a cooking channel but every gamer has their prefered snacks would be interesting to see some of your top picks or something akin to that
Using automated benchmark mode recordings with cloud rendering for the trailers work are usually also the reason (1 pc vs 15 000 servers rendering each frame of the game)
you might want to fix those audio skips
Hey it's ol' Pumpkin Hands Linus! So Spooky!
Wow a really insightful video! Thanks Linus!
I would like a Fast as Possible episode on monitor/screen bezels. Why do we need them in a multi monitor world? (reference to 8k monitor build) We see large displays at conferences using multi monitor setups with seemingly no bezels. Mobile phones have smaller bezels. A well rounded explanation would be useful.
why is there 13 dislikes already? did Lin do something
They dont like the video... And they're negative people :P
the vid has been out for less than 1 min
Golden Coral fans
they are people that like Golden Coral
MikeyC
I know -.-
2019: Ray tracing has entered the chat!!!
Ain't nobody going to mention how amazing their editing got? :D goddamn
0:44 Heh, that's 'actual bugger' still look better than the 'sat on' one by McD from my place.
↑ All Ubisoft Games.
Gianna Micheal is that you in thumbnail ?
Not sure if it's a good or bad thing that I had the exact same thoughts!
Cheers to the 1:05 mark ;)
Delicious election.
I prefers Motchie's (h-manga artist) depiction of Mai Shiranui. Real life milfs are barely hot.
Daniel š hhh damn she looks like her
oh that final fantasy roast tho killed me LOL
I love quickies... every time is a quickie for me. 😭
this video just explains cyberpunk 2077
Then you've got games like warframe in which the game looks as good as the trailer, maybe better.
Well, Warframe is definitely one of those special cases where the trailers are rendered in-engine and with the in-game assets.
Aimela Well, yeah that is what i meant. I do enjoy the enthusiastic vibe they give too though, but that is sort of unrelated.
Well, a lot of games are almost identical to the trailers, but Warframe manages to have identical graphics along with very similar gameplay, at first I was like "how the fuck would you even play like that" because the game seemed to be too fast-paced in some trailers, but it really was that fast and it wasn't hard to play at all, which was a pleasant surprise honestly.
Prax xor Since i sort of discovered warframe after playing games like gunz the duel or even s4 league, it sort of was less surprising for me, but i can still relate.
Likely not like this anymore, but back during closed beta, what actuality caught my attention the most, was how the game was super smooth and good looking on my old potato pc. Not to mention how fast the download speeds used to be.
ˣ💣ˣ Well, the game runs surprisingly well on a core2duo cpu and a gt 610, so optimization is still good, but they do need to do something about the download speeds, maybe a torrent-like system?
wow a new linus channel! im gonna watch all this
That assessment of _The Golden Corral_ was spot on.
....uh did anyone else hear the audio trips, there were two
Yeah. I bet Taran edited this.
why teran?
I don't know. He just looks goofy.
yup, really amateurish. they probably have new intern who did this..
yup, really amateurish. they probably have new intern who did this..
They should only use gameplay for video game trailers.
We don't need more laws. Lol
Sony would give up on Playstation if they couldnt lie about how there games look. Check out the trailers for No Mans Sky and then look at the real game , a complete lie.
I always wondered about this!
As fast as possible how potable storage works? (Flash Drives, external hard drives, etc)
Please?
*cough* Mafia III *cough*
B-but 30 fps is more cinematic
NeonUniverse Gaming liar, you can only see 1 fps
***** Shit! Im wrong again. Is it 2fps?
human eye can't see above 0 fps
stop these console memes pls
btw Mafia is dead
Why are his palms are so yellow
i think he is a Jewish
subliminal Cheetos sponsorship
green screen failure editing
He's turning into the PC Master Race
Next suggestion: Do a video about apt-X bluetooth audio format
i asked this question myself years ago while playing Tomb Raider IV so now I know this is sort of a catch up game between trailer engines vs real game engines
The funny thing is the only game I've seen that stays true to its word in the trailers is Battlefield 1
Noah Quintana All Nintendo games have honest gameplay trailers.
Is it just me or does that thumbnail look like Gianna Michaels?
She's retired now
Please do a tech quicke on Bash programming!
Thanks guys for your experience and passion :)
it's simple; pre-rendered CGI footage does not equal actual gameplay !
*cough* Ubisoft *cough*
You really need to sort out the audio when the video cuts, been happening quite often in the Techquickie videos lately. 0:09, 0:36, 3:40
monsters u is an exception since its the first movie to use real lighting.
same as clickbait
This is waaay to obvious!
hell yeah :c
What i hate is that, the trailer keeps saying, “IN-GAME FOOTAGE” or “RECORDED REAL TIME IN THE IN-GAME ENGINE” which are sometimes bs.
I remember the uncharted series and naughty dog are some of the only and Gest looking games that have trailers, gameplay, and cutscenes that are rendered by the same engine. Enabling a movie like experience. Uncharted 1 was Epic back when it came out and I was 15. Uncharted 2 was even more epic.
cough. world of warcraft
Exactly
I'm a gamer
But doesn't have a PC or console.
what
what?
Dice or Cards?
Slavir Nabru lmao
Candy crush?
lmao that very last second
3:34 lol I my first gpu had a some weird green ghost lady on it
2:42 - "for whatever reason"
You know what is the reason? Consoles. They pay money to lock some options for ie. 2 years for PC game to not look better than console version - because when you buy console you expect to be "premium" customer (but you aren't, you are peasant).
One of the most poorly edited videos on the channel :(
at like 4:05 and what not. thought my audio was messed up but was sure it was poor editing.
Why were you even watching that? Rule number one about Linus is that when he says, "Speaking of," you get the fuck out.
HELLHOUNDGRIM, I like seeing how he plans to tie an ad into the content.
thegeorgezila Yes, I know. I'm not that dumb. That's not what I was talking about.
^No one needs to be specific. The video was poorly edited and editing is one of the key features when uploading a video on CZcams just like its actual content itself. If you did watch the video and did not find any editing errors, no one here is going to spoonfeed you with timestamps of proofs. Go find them yourself instead of judging people by their CZcams comments.
golden corral reference was on point
I think the studio lighting is making him and his hands look orangey. One of the down perks of green screen, but things could be worse. I'm just glad he took the time to answer this question. It has been on my mind as to why some games sometimes don't look like their T.V. trailers counter parts. Thank you Linus and team!
Notice me!
LET'S GET ROIIIIGGGHHHTTTT INTO THE NOOOOSSSEEEE!
CANCER!!! like LOL
you forgot your video card too if it works great with that game engine
do you remeber the pictures on those NES catridges
It'll be amusing to come back to this video years from now to examine the view statistics for the spikes that coincide with overhyped releases.
WATERMELON
Yo latviet :D
kads latvietis?
tāds, čeksisLV... YO
Ghazik ko tu domā par manu profila bildi?
4aw 4aw :D
Really scraping the bottom of the barrel here guys
Also a vertical slice is another reason. A *COMPLETELY SEPARATE* team builds a single level, spending more money and time for that level compared too the final game.. Making it much better...
I think the shroud and backplate graphics are making a return with Wildlands?
Breath of wild looked exactly like the trailer
Allahu akbar unexpected jihad
AirportHobo Triggers Me you was first :)
ayy thats pretty good 👍
"Err, Buzz.... we missed the truck!"
"We're not aiming for the truck..."
+fjh1616
You was the third word in his sentence. Never say never.
correct use of you was.
lmao that Golden Corral analogy
Every time there's a cut there's an audio artifact. And people complain about your production quality today? This was only 3 years ago and (not to be rude) you've definitely come a long way.
I dunno why people beg for likes when they get early to the vid, ugh i hate it when people like my comments...
Ok.
madteasdale do you prefer dislikes
taz874 ya, go dislike all my shit vids, this comment, your vids, leafys vids, my new vid's on my new channel, and this video
Also slight editing error @ 3:40
i like this video especially for that one sentence about watch dog....
You got games like Battlefield 1... game trailers look just as good as actual gameplay
true
lmfaaaoo Golden Coral explanation on point!
Sound glitch @ 0:30 Anyone else?
Screw you for using a sound similar to the Thunderbird "new mail"-sound. I'm constantly checking. :D
I'm surprised he didn't use Transformers (the first one that came out) as just one Transformer sometimes took 7 months to render the character only. although it was easy after the first time as the characters rarely changed except for a few of them.
any linus video ends for me the moment he starts making advertisements
3:33 Back in the day when you actually had a chance to make all your games work properly without weeks of internet searching for weird problems. I still have a 6800GT in my "retro" machine the only card that never gave me an issue with anything.
Never realized I needed this question asked. Awesomely done to satiate the Q!
Can you do a review of the new arctis line from SteelSeries please? I'm looking at getting one of them and want to know if it's worth it.
Steam announced this month that ALL games on Steam have to show ACTUAL game play shots instead of fancy over digitized concept art and high-end rendered CGI game footage. It's about time!! Thanks STEAM.
"Speaking of bad, you know what's bad?"😂
0:41 SO TRUE LOL!!!
Rockstar: Am I a joke to you?
So are the art assets used in these trailers different from the game engine ones?
thanks
Sometimes. But a lot are usually higher res models with higher res textures. And a lot of these developers don't even make the trailers for their games... they outsource them to other companies. Nice last name btw ;)
That's something I love a out halo, it always looked as good in the game as in the cutscenes and trailers.
2:54
Event that is not enough nowadays, with pre-scripted game "slices" that don't make it in the final game, like in No Man's Sky's case where a demo was played by a dev on a big stage.
LOOK AT LINUS'S EAR! THAT KEYING THOUGH.
