  • At 14h45 we drove towards Paarl Mountain Reserve and discovered what appeared to be a small fire. It was 30'C and we were concerned the fire would spread so I called the Paarl Fire Department. Fearing the person at the other end of the line didn't take me seriously as they must get a lot of pranks calls, I called Pieter Snyman a colleague and a resident of Paarl who's wife in turn called the Paarl Fire Department and the Drakenstein Farm Watch. It wasn't too long before the Paarl Fire Dept arrived and immediately began dealing with the fire. The Fire Department were first on the scene and had come from the neighbouring town of Wellington to respond to my call. Later the Drakenstein Farm Watch arrived in support and assisted with dealing with the fire

Yes and two different emergency services, the one official told me it was going to take more than 5000 litres to kill the fire
