Finding an RTX 3080 for review purposes wasn’t an easy feat. After the whole fiasco regarding the capacitors, which was in my humble opinion ungrounded, we won’t be seeing Asus Tuf and Rog Strix models on the store shelves for some time. However, that does not stop us from showcasing the Asus Rog Strix 3080, its overclock potential, memory and chip frequency as well as it’s acoustic and thermal characteristics. We will also be briefly talk about the farce which placed Asus at the top of the chain.

Why didn't you do an OC on the card manually? Also did you do a fresh install of drivers using DDU your benchmarks seem really low vs a 2080 TI

I was worried that my PSU was not enough but i see you use the same so i think i will be ok. I use an i9 9900K instead of the 3700X.
i'm just trying to figure out how to plug it in... 3x 8pin connecters, so how many cables do i plug into the psu? seriously
Bought Aorus master yesterday. They used 6 SP caps 470u that toowith higher ampere, way above then base spec. Also, they have used Mlcc around the SP caps at the back where most vendors skipped, even founder edition. Now this is from OC edition so Aorus Master may have even better/updated cap.
In real world, my cards boosts 2055 on default. And this is after playing Watch Dogs Legion and COD MW. Then OC'd the core and gotba stable clock of 2125 stable. Memory oc to +1300.
Also, looking at the back plate, they have thermal pads on the Caps, and 2 pairs of VRM. Didn't dismantle the card but you can easily see from side view.
Gigabyte took their time and came in stock yesterday to a local shop and this was the first batch. Manufacturing date was also October last week. So there might be update like Asus did as its super stable.

What are your gaming temps. Mine goes upto 92 degrees in under 10 min on any game. In a good air flow case will all 6 fans at 100 percent. I think my card has issue.
Is this the non OC version?

exactly how i feel about my TUF 3080, i never had a cooler card than this before and im never opening this card cuz ill just break it lol
most people dont use totaly open cases.. so making a review soely on that to tell us how hot it runs and about the fan speed/noice , this video was a waste of time.

@@it991 Im still waiting for it. Due to shortages around the world, SA didnt get any Asus cards but its expected to be here by mid feb. So for now i just bought myself a cheap rx580. Theirs was a 3080 gaming x trio available, but im going for a full asus rog build so i declined the trio and kept the strix on order

@@it991 I paid R19000 for it here is South Africa which is about $1250. South africas pricing will never be close to msrp even of stock is readily available. A friend of mine whos does the importing for many stores in South Africa is organising it for me

I lost almost 100 watts by doing a little undervolting. Almost no performance lost.
I know it's late. But did you do this in MSI afterburner or what? I'm getting the white version of this soon and was wondering about undervolting it.

850 it says. I'm going to try it in my 750 when I buy mine but I might have to upgrade.
I got my Strix OC RTX 3080 boost clock never exceed 1965mhz and averaging 1950Mhz....this one is non OC version but boosting higher...I should have buy non OC version of the STRIX

can you daisy chain 2 of the 8 pin connections? so 2 cables instead of 3?
I would personally use 3 single 8 pins.

What is meant by the AI Algorithm that is meant to boost the card makes a lot of noise? Does this happen in all modes? Are you just talking about having the fans run at higher speeds or are you talking about coil whine?
The AI algorithm that automatically raises the frequencies makes the most noise in the entire graphics card. That's why it happens that bad capacitor configurations can't stand it, to be more precise, they filter out the complete noise that is directly produced by Nvidia AI Boost.
@@wasdbenchmark So it is coil whine produced by those capacitors then? I'm mostly just interested in the nature of the sound. Is it there all the time or only when the card is running at a high clock, or only when the card's clock is changing frequently? Is the sound produced by the fans when they're changing speed or, as I assume from your description that it's and electronic whine produced by the capacitors? I'm also a bit confused by what you mean by bad capacitor configurations? How does the noise on the strix compare to other 3080s is it worse or better?

Meaning most cards can't clock high due to those capacitors otherwise will have black screens thats what he meant lol and the name is called gpu boost 3.0 lol

In terms of performance 12GB versions are between 3080 10GB and 3080 Ti

Sorry but the quality of capacitors makes a difference, esr, self inductance, leakage, and capacitor tolerance, to name a few issues here, are measurable, quantifiable, and very much a real thing. They also are a tell , As to the rest of the pcb build, can software compensate for low end parts? Sure, it will however not make low end parts perform better. And the hardware SHALL be crippled due to it. You can not change physics with software.
Some things are tangible with better parts, such as overclocking performance, some are harder to see, like longevity, or performance tolerance unit to unit. These strix cards are a prime example of a pcb that uses good parts, the rest of the engineering follows, like the thermals, or memory controller selection or what ever, most parts will follow that trend. and in the end, the strix cards are at the top of benchmarks , and consistently so….. I believe you overlooked this…. Just an engineering perspective. Does it cost more, yup! As expected for a high end card, made with top shelf parts, that benchmarks as the strix do. Just sayin!

You didn't say if this is the OC or Non-OC. Also the capictor "issue" has nothing to do with the availability so don't really get your opening gambit.
its the OC Version you can see it at 2:04 bottom right on the card. When it end with o10g its OC. I have one thats why i know.
This is the OC version. The configuration of the capacitor has nothing to do with it, but some cards had to be returned to the factory for finishing. If you noticed the first images of Strix and TUF graphics cards, you could see the configuration of "large" capacitors while a completely different story was later seen.

unaccurate results ryzen 7 3700x was used as cpu. to atleast have a an barely capped performance on a rtx 3080 you should use a ryzen 5 5800x
Makes no sense the way yoy calculated some things. By saying the average was 30 percent so then it should be said it's a 30 percent difference not 45 ans then 70 lol.

Everything is perfect but the coil whine on this card is crazy :/ i hope after some time when card cooked coil whine may gone but it is just luck anyway other than that I love my card anyways
While we were testing, the coil whine effect was happening to me as well. When it came time to shoot a graphics card, I was "unlucky" enough to generate a coil whine. After that the card worked with a very small coil whine effect
My 3090 strix oc has bad coil whine too :( super sad for a $1800 product. Will this go away?

Im really disappointed from the thermal performance of this card. Zotac, yes Zotac, did a better job at lower fan speed. MSI did a slightly better job at lower fan speed. I experimented with all of them. With the strix bios, I managed to run zotac 1900mhz and the other ones 1950mhz stable at the same voltage. I recommend the MSI GAMING X TRIO as the price / performance ratio was the best. BTW I resold the cards for the original price.
I get 1950Mhz stable at 900mV with Zotac Trinity. Finished AC Oddessy with that setting.
Stock bios just UV.
@@zedconnor9803 try metro exodus maxxed out with Ray tracing. I could play witcher 3 without RT as well without issues on higher clocks.
Set the strix to quiet bios. Then your temps match the msi and zotac cards. (With a higher wattage)
