Jace's original story arc was supposed to be about him being torn between the light and dark of White and Black mana -- both being Blue's ally colours. It's never really come to much though.
If I remember correctly, she wasn't even a member of the Golgari guild when the Azorius busted the district she lived in. They racially profiled her because the Golgari had a lot of gorgons. I know that she acquired her philosophy of giving the death deserved from someone she met in her planeswalking travels, and it's illustrated in how she used the assassins she allied with to kill the Azorius guildmembers responsible for the Golgari bust. (The one who wrote the law was bled out by having said law carved into his skin, the guy who pushed it to attain figurehead status was turned to stone to act as a public figurehead statue etc...) it was after these events that Jace wins the Implicit Maze and she reaches out to him.
The development of her character throughout Ixalan is great and gives some redemption to the rewrite on Jace's character back in Origins. I'm curious how things will turn out when the (random) Bolas war begins and Jace reawakens those memories.
RE: How things will turn out... my response from two years in future is... Sadly, not well.
The storyline is basically cast aside in the name of shoddy ham-handed storytelling. I was hoping so hard for Vraska and Jace to reunite and fall in love/work together for the betterment of Ravnica, but instead her character's contributions are the cold-blooded murder of Isperia :/
It's pretty hard to make a character seem this ruthless and caring all at the same time.

I love that you talk about the history of the lore in the context of how lore was presented...if that makes any sense. Getting back into MTG after over a decade, it's easy to find out the lore. However it's not so easy to know the history of how the lore was presented to the audience. I always thought she was a big player in the Ravnica blocks from the beginning.
All Vraska cards are my favorite Vraska card because Vraska is bae and is the best character in Magic.

I really like the Relic seeker card. Something about my favorite plainswalker on the bow of the ship as the pirates of the Caribbean theme song plays in my head every time I see it really seals the deal.

It’s really cool how you can see the story through the art
In Magic The Gathering, I was always able to see the story through the cards. I've always been a big fan of flavor text and how an artist portrays a certain card, because it helps me connect the dots. MTG is excellent at this. Even without reading any of the books, you can still glean parts of the stories just by reading/looking at the cards from a shared block.
I also used to play Yu-Gi-Oh way back when and it took me forever to figure out that they've been doing the same thing, only much more obscure. Their cards also tell a story and speak of a shared universe, if you can manage to connect all the dots, but it's done in such a vague and easy to miss way that it took me years to piece it all together and at that point, I wasn't even playing the game anymore.

Vraska the unseen was the first ever planeswalker I used. I started magic playing golgari but never followed up on it until now. I’m playing Golgari Midrange and so far it’s an amazing deck. Playing both Varaska relic seeker and golgari Queen is a blast. She’s probably my second favorite planeswalker, just behind Elspeth. I can’t wait for my stories about her and where she ends up in all of this.
Almost watched all your videos now! You are a great storyteller! I can remember all those intriguing backstories of the cards all the way back since the Rath cycle. Those starter decks still had those story books in them :)! Keep those stories coming; theres so many to tell! Cant wait for the awesome stories of the Weatherlight crew!

Vraska's Contempt, for sure. Not only is the art beautiful but it came along just in time to deal with The Scarab God and stop me from rage quitting Magic.

Favorite Vraska card? Easy: Vraska, Golgari Queen. Immediately grabbed a playset when it came out and I'm now glad it's a standard staple.
I love the relic seeker art sheerly because of the detail and how dark yet not dark it looks
Vraska, Golgari Queen is honestly the most enjoyable card to play that I've seen. Nothing is better than winning with 1 health left against a max hp enemy.

She is my first oathbreaker deck with evolution charm as the signature spell.

My like of Vraska first came from pulling the Golgari queen in draft, as she was the first planeswalker I obtained while getting into mtg (Technically I have Jace, Ingenious Mind Mage too, but I got him before I really got _into_ magic), but learning about her story definitely solidified her as probably my favourite planeswalker. I'm curious to see where she goes from here.

Savra killed the Sisters with help of one of the First Guild Leaders. I think he was called sovgothos or something. Jarad was her Brother and replaced her when rakdos attaked the city in dissension.

What is the best way to know the lore? Read the mtg site? Books? Flavor text? How do you get to study and learn how the story progresses?
(Ryan) The story archive on the Wizards of the Coast page is a great place to start, and new stories are added most Wednesdays (they do take a break between sets sometimes though.)

Vraska killed Jace just before he restored her memory... she cries and asked her insect necromancer to reanimate Jace... so now Jace is Dimir color and is: Jace: Soyboy NPC.
Wait if Vraska can turn other beings to stone just by looking at them, doesnt that mean she can "stonify" the gods of Amonkhet? Nicol bolas wouldnt just let those gods stay at Amonkhet and probably want to use them as the generals or leaders of the Eternal Army.

Oh right, wasn't thinking of them. Scorpion God definitely got killed by Samut, that's what activated her spark, it's depicted in Puncturing Blow. Forgot what happened to the other two.
Samut's spark ignited when she gained Hazoret's Favor. Not when she killed the God. :D Just a bit to add.

Wait. Wait. Wait. The Golgari were Ruled by there Queen Savrah, sister to Jarad. When she was Assassinated by the Dimir Jarad took over. The Sisters of stone Death died before that though.
(Ryan) I was just trying to explain that gorgons are a familiar sight on Ravnica, and some had even held positions of power already so it's not like Vraska was dreaming an impossible dream. Thanks for filling in some missing details though - a lot happened between the Sisters and Jarad!
@@tcgplayercom That's fair, the other interesting things is that Izoni, the next in line of Devkarin Elves to step into power is a little upset about this new Queen stepping into power. Or at least based on some flavor texts it seems that way.
