  • In the summer of 2014, Viktor Kazachenko was riding his motorcycle across the steppe of Northern Kazakhstan. He was headed to a nearby town to run some errands, but he never arrived. Kazachenko was hit by a mysterious illness that made him black-out and fall asleep while riding. He woke up 4 days later in the hospital, with no memory of what happened. And, he wasn’t the only one.
The village of Kalachi, in Kazakhstan, has been struck by a true medical enigma that’s causing people to fall asleep for days at a time. Interestingly, when they come out of it, they have no recollection of what happened. Forty-six-year-old Taisiya, from Kalachi, experienced this sleepy hollow 3 times in just a few years.

    SUMMARY:
    - The village of Kalachi, in Kazakhstan, has been struck by a true medical enigma that’s causing people to fall asleep for days at a time. Interestingly, when they come out of it, they have no recollection of what happened.
    - In a period of three years, more than 100 people were affected by this mysterious illness in Kalachi. Both adults and children had been through sleepy spells that lasted days.
    - It all starts with light-headedness; and then you feel like your legs are too heavy to walk. When you get struck, you fall sleep within minutes, and might be hallucinating about random things until you’re out of it.
    - Since the illness occurs so suddenly, the patient’s speech also becomes slurred, making it difficult to understand what they’re saying.
    - According to a report, this disease also affected an animal as well. It was a cat named Marquis.
    - More than 55 families moved out of the village, and approximately 100 more are in the process of doing so.
    - At first, everyone thought that this was some sort of intolerance to a specific drink. However, this theory was later disproven when kids started being affected.
    - Doctors and scientists alike were determined get to the bottom of this, so they started doing lab tests as well. They even checked for high radiation levels and radon gas, as well as for heavy metals, bacteria and viruses in the water supply of the area.
    - Coincidentally, scientists began suspecting an abandoned uranium mine 2 miles away from the village of Kalachi.
    - When scientists studied the levels of radiation and uranium levels in Kalachi, they found them to be normal.
    - The story of the sleepy hollow was becoming stranger and stranger, prompting curiosity from all around the world. That was when Viktor Kryukov - (the former director of the uranium mine) came out with some interesting statements.
    - According to Viktor, the gas is seeping through the ground, causing people to fall asleep.
    - If a person is unlucky enough to be passing by and inhale the air, then the carbon monoxide enters their bloodstream and they lose consciousness.
    - After that statement, scientists started researching Kryukov’s theory and he was proven right.

Any combustion of fuel creates it, EVEN smoldering charcoals that you think burnt out already.

It did say that the oxygen and carbon monoxide levels were within the legal limits even when they knew about the carbon monoxide theory. The first researchers could have taken data when the levels were completely normal. That’s an example of why data needs to be taken multiple times!
It’s scary to think about how small children and the elderly could have been affected.
The only good thing about the story is that the levels would go back to normal fast enough to keep anyone from getting killed!

I had a similar problem 2 years ago. I slept for hours. Sometimes i would be driving and wake up most of the time in the right lane or made the correct turns and awake at or near the place I was going. I did not get sleepy I just dropped off to sleep. One Sunday I was preaching a sermon and i lost it but I continued talking and moving and did not realize what I was doing until someone in the congregation woke me off before it became a deep sleep. My situation is controlled by medication. It is Narcolepsy and Cataplexy. It still happens but realize what to do now. I lived in Webster and West Columbia, TX when i realized I had start blanking out.

It's a natural or unnatural Xenon gas vent. Xenon is an anesthetic. When the water entered any high concentrations of ore will undergo fission. One of those fission products is Xenon a hallmark of U235 fission. The theory about the carbon monoxide would have shown up in physical diagnosis. It produces cherry red lips. Xenon on the other hand is well tolerated up to high concentrations you just stay asleep. I'm certain this is the cause.
Xe135 is produced that has a high cross section for neutrons so poisons the fission reaction but produces stable Xe136. This bubbles up and leaks through cracks into dwellings.
Xe133 to 136 are produced. Xe135 becomes Xe136. The other isotopes become cesium. Xe136 is slightly radioactive and denser than the lighter stable isotopes. Normal Xénon from air is average 131.
Mostly Xe136 will be coming out of the mine. This is denser than 131 and that may cause it to have a stronger effect.
I suggest pumping the air out and extracting the xenon for sale.

i have a explanation for why they forget after sleeping
if you sleep / nap, you forget 1-2 hours of what happened before you sleep. Based on it, a sleep (8 hours) is 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours. Naps is most likeley for you to forget, then remember it again. Due to the numbers of hours in the epidemic-sleep illness (5 days or more / 72 hours) they forget more then usual. This is only my opinion. I definitley did not say that cause I just woke up.

That sounds mostly plausible. However, the cat's reaction doesn't seem to fit. Many cats are psychic, and that cat acted like it was picking up on a "presence" it didn't like. Also, why isn't everyone affected?
