As you said yes its true but every thing shall be changed slowly because indian people have been in the habit of living in a socialist economy for 70 years that is why govt is making changes slowly like privitaisng trains and stations first then may be they will do full railways may be not but yes changes are held slowly slowly under the table and moving towards capitalism.

Hm.... Welfare state has not been ended and it shouldn't be ... Mid day meal, LPG subsidy, food security , agriculture subsidy all are very important components , but socialism is a different thing where state owns and controls the economy. We are rapidly moving from that point , particularly in Modi's era ... I have no problem for that .But in India capitalization is more a monopoly or duopoly of few handful companies in many sectors. I dislike that aspect .

Also if u see more than Modi Indian States have a greater role in economy.
Just see telengana. It's GDP has increased 3X in last 10 years.
Just 3 states UP, bihar, Bengal are dragging whole India down. These 3 states have whopping 33% of Indian population but are laggard in GDP and per capita growth. Indian government has failed to industrialized bimarou states like up, bihar, Bengal, assam, MP, Rajasthan. These 4,5 states are reasons for Indian poverty.
