@@lindahake1666 hi Linda I have seen him 2 times in live he sings in live when in sings songs that where now he changes its a bit he shows you that he not singing in playback all that he sings are in live I was in two concerts in new wave 2021 and in Prague this year he is much better in live and such a humble man you can see he works a lot on his voice. I am an Arab and I can easily say that Dimash is indeed far better than most Arab singers in these melismas, trills, riffs, runs or whatever they are called, although it's Arabs filed of training and expertise where you are not considered good if you don't master these tricks.. This bowl-neck lute played with a bow is is an old Turkic stringed instrument and called Kobys, Qobyz or Kylkobyz in Kazakhstan. The Kyrgyz variant, for example, is called the kyl-kyyak.
The Kobys is the oldest string instrument in the world and, according to a German scientist, it spread beyond the borders of the nomadic area of Central Asia and became the mother (prototype) of all European string instruments.

A legend about Kobyz says that this instrument was created by the great steppe narrator Korkyt-Ata, who lived in the 10th century and that the tool is charged with magical and even mystical properties and sounds like animal voices. The old outlook and piety towards their instruments and music was constantly preserved in traditional Kazakh society and ensured the highest spiritual level of musical art and a special respectful attitude towards musical instruments. Dimash is always unbelievably amazing. “Stranger” was composed by Russian songwriter Igor Krutoy (who’s also the pianist), and the lyrics were written by American poetess Sharon Vaughn. The main arrangement was by Dimitris Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan).
Dimash used an Arabic maqam for his ad lib in the middle of the song. It's a system of oriental scales, melodic phrases and ornamentation techniques. And it fit perfectly with the mood of the song.
Igor Krutoy said, “It was Dimash’s talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities and his desire to sing for a large international audience. Franky, I don’t see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way.”
The solo instrument heard at the beginning is called a kobyz which is an ancient Kazakh instrument. The idea to add the kobyz to this song came to Dimash after he first heard the tune of “Stranger”. The singer realised that the folk instrument would fit perfectly into the song, giving it an exquisite sound. Dimash has always been anxious to popularise traditional Kazakh music. So, he really wanted the kobyz to be played on a big stage like Sochi’s New Wave Hall
Dimash said, “We invited our talented friend Olzhas Qurmanbek to perform the kobyz in “Stranger”, because he is considered the best kobyz player, who managed to fully convey the emotions and character of the song. Thanks to him the song got its outstanding and unique sound. I’ve always dreamed of the kobyz to be heard in my foreign collaborations.”

@@TheVocalyst how about new singers the that the old singers love? Dimash has called Daneliya Tuleshova a national treasure. This now 15 year old has been winning hearts and minds since she was 7-8 years old. When she was 7.5 her father noticed a change in her vocal ability. He talked it over with his wife and finally Daneliya who said sure as she loved singing. When getting everything arranged they talked to the music instructor, who was mainly a choir, chorus teacher, to see if they should arrange for a private voice teacher. At that time the teacher said no as it would be a waste of time and money.
Not long after that the teacher walked by a practice room and was stopped short by a voice coming out of that room. When she looked in she immediately recognized the tiny little girl as the source of a powerful voice. She immediately went to her desk and filled out the entry forms to the Ayalagan Astana a nation-wide singing competition for all the best young singers in Kazakhstan. Only after she was accepted did the teacher talk to the family. They tempered their enthusiasm by keeping the expectations low. That they were going to introduce competition to everyone. So they said no worrying about placing or anything like that. Well as the start of legends would have it, Daneliya won the whole thing. She wowed the people there. One judge was to say, "how can the other children hope to compete with her when she sings like an adult? She has been kissed on the forehead by God'!! She then won the competition to represent Kazakhstan at Euro-Vision Kids. She became the first Kazakh to earn that honor. She went to that competition and finished 6th at first count. She was also vote the most favorite by all the people watching in person and by T.V.. when the final vote was added up Daneliya had finished 3rd place overall. Then a month or two before her 11th birthday she had her blind audition for The Voice Kids Ukraine 2017. Well her audition went viral as she crushed Demi Lavato's 'Stone Cold'. There the judges/coaches were bowled over and you could tell by their responses to Daneliya after she finished her song. Daneliya went on to win that competition and became the youngest winner at 11 yrs.old. She also became the first non-Ukrainian to win that competition.

Igor Krutoy (means in Eng. Igor Cool), music titan in Russia (billionaire) and a famous composer who came out of retirement to write songs for Dimash. The maestro and Dimash have been working together from time to time since 2018. They are friends and have a father-son relationship.
Dimash said also in an interview about the collaboration with Igor Krutoy that it is important to him that the songs are written in such a way that there is room for variations ... so every performance of a song is a surprise and every Dear can choose his favorite presentation... I can not decide.

Please will you react to the Arnau Tour version of Sinful Passion rather than the New Wave one (which everyone seems to do).
I prefer the Moscow version from the D-Dynasty concert. Just search for Sinful Passion Moscow and it should pop right up. It’s a fan cam but with good sound and the camera stays on Dimash the whole time. Might be better for a vocal analysis.

Another great reaction and analysis. "Stranger" is the first of three songs Dimash premiered in August 2021, during his performance at the annual New Wave music competition in Sochi, Russia. He again performed with Igor Krotoy on the piano and introduced Olzhas Qurmanbeck on the kobyz. Igor Krutoy composed the music, American poetess Sharon Vaughn wrote the lyrics, and Dimitris Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan) did the arrangement.

In my humble opinion, this is an amazing performance, one of the best to date. Dimash traverses almost 5 octaves (C2-F6) in this performance. That stunning last note is about 19.7 seconds in full mixed voice belt in F#5. Dimash performs an alternate version of "Stranger" on the "Shine! When Dimash first listened to the melody of "Stranger," he felt that the addition of a kobyz to the musical arrangement would give the song a unique yet very fitting sound. Thus, the kobyz debuted at the New Wave Hall at the Sochi Olympic Park, and what a great choice indeed. It is a beautiful sounding instrument that underscores the song's deep meaning. This wasn't the first time that Dimash has featured Olzhas Qurmanbeck playing the kobyz. You can also enjoy him in a few of Dimash's other performances, such as Qairan Elim (official music video) and Samaltau (2020 Tokyo Jazz Festival).
The kobyz, played here by Olzhas Qurmanbeck, is a 5,000-year-old, traditional, sacred instrument in Kazakhstan. The kobyz or Kyl kobyz is the most ancient bowed instrument on earth, widespread among the Turks, Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Bashkirs, and Tatars. It became the basis for most of today's bowed instruments worldwide, including European instruments such as violin, viola, cello, and contrabass. The Kyrgyz variant is called Kyl kayak.
The instrument is carved from a single piece of wood (typically apricot), juniper (arsha), maple, pine tree, or birch. The instrument consists of three parts: head (base), middle (base is keude), and lower part (ayak) and usually measures 60-70 cm. The resonant cavity is usually covered with goatskin, reproducing a sound representing the animals of the steppe. It has two strings made from horsetail hair, one to provide melody and the other resonance.
Someone explained that one string is made with 75 horse hairs and the other with 60 horsehairs. The strings are not pushed down to a fret but are played with pressure applied by either the fingernail or the pad on the finger, and the tones are varied by the pressure of the bow. The bow is shaped like an archer's bow, and its string, made with 40 horse hairs, is tied to both ends of the bent branch and affixed with strong threads of camel wool.
The New Wave Music competition started in 2002 and for nearly two decades now, has been one of the most iconic music events in Russia and other parts of the world. It is an international contest for young performers of popular music. It was founded by Russian composer, performer, and music producer Igor Krutoy (seen here playing the piano) and Latvian pianist and composer Raimonds Pauls. Russian superstar Alla Pugacheva eventually joined as one of the show's organizers. The contest usually lasts for six days: 3 contest days, 2 special event days, and the final day when the contest's results are announced and a final concert is performed. The television audience of the New Wave music competition numbers more than 200 million people. In 2018, Dimash debuted as a guest performer, performing his now legendary rendition of "Sinful Passion." This year (2021), Dimash took part as a guest performer and a judge. 11 participants from 9 countries competed for the grand prize in the finale.
Dimash's ability to turn experienced vocal coaches into giggling fans never ceases to amaze.

Great Reaction and analysis again :) now you have to do Ave maria, from the same composer his take on the Gregorian hymn sung in a way that only Dimash can. If you want to hear Stranger by Dimash with more "vocal acrobatics" as you called it and is so appropriate, check out Shine! Super Brothers Youku Show. Dimash added a LOT more of that sound to the point he wasn't quite able to last as long at the end because he used his vocal acrobatics so much (Dimash is after all a human even though he doesn't seem like it). Even if you don't react to it, please watch it. You'll be astounded.
Actually I believe the reason he couldn’t hold the last note as long was because he was not entirely healthy. He had rhinitis so he was having a little trouble with his breathing. Despite that, his performance was extraordinary.

So true, he's so captivating on stage. So far you've only just watched his "explosive" songs (including sinful passion). Wait till you get to the more subtle, delicate, emotional ones 😭. No need for him to hit super high or super low. Just him, his amazing control, and his raw emotions. So captivating its hard to breath, enough to make you cry (at least I did). In this case, I particularly like his Kazakh songs i.e. qaragym-ai , amanat, ect (all on his youtube channel). Or the first part of his cover of Love is Like A Dream (2018? Version) is also very delicate.
“Marigolds” at his Kiev’s concert was super-emotional.
As much as I respect Dimash´s love for Michael Jackson and his inspiration by him, I think this is the kind of style he should aim at. Spectacular, grandiose, movie-like, where he uses different techniques, because nobody on Earth can do that.
This was a great performance but unbelievably he did an even better performance of Stranger Live Super
Brothers S2 Youku Show. He does vocal gymnastics in that performance that are just jaw dropping and mind
blowing.
