How can they give it one star man they're animals

Don't see the Aliens giving each other one star reviews ;) your saying that the aliens are worse lol

The dream sequence made total sense to me because anyone would have nightmares after such a traumatic experience.
Of course it does, but these people don't have good taste in movies. Hate to see what they like as music or food.
These are the kind of people that prefer a Disney Live Action remake
The remake will fail as they see it coming along with Disney interfere the project.

Or Disney films at all. Disney !! The King of unoriginal and in most cases rip-offs and even attempts at rewriting history, Disney is the Nazi Party of film producers...and...i don’t like them.
You can’t give aliens one star no matter how much you dislike it when movies like sharknado and anaconda exist
I was an active duty Marine when this film was released and I can tell you that every Marine that was in the theater watching this film loved it. Grunts talk that way to one another. That's why I found the Marines in the film so relatable. Those characters were just like the men I served with. And Bill Paxton rules, God rest his soul!
Man they really gave this movie some serious Heat.
Yeah but it's a dry heat

same types of people that gave Cats 5 stars.
I always thought the dream sequence demonstrated that Ripley was having that recurring dream during her entire time in cryosleep. Pretty frightening thought.
@AnotherOne Iirc in the comics there are professional dreamers that sell dreams for people in the pods to use specifically bc they spend so much more time dreaming than regular people. I believe it is written ab extensively in the new Alien RPG as well.
Its called PTSD. She went through some shit, hasn't fully processed it, and now they want her to go back. She isn't going to be the same person she was in the first movie. If she was it wouldn't be believable.

“Maybe it’s like an ant hive.” He was 100% dead on too.
Did that one reviewer really call Prometheus a brilliant film? Oof.
I used to not like the fake out dream scene at the begining. I used to think it was a cheap way of scaring the audiance. But now, i realize that the scene is more intended as a means of conveying how the events of the first film have really traumatized Ripley, which is a much better way of showing us how she feels rather than just a line where she says “i keep having nightmares about it“. We SEE how she was affected by the first movie rather than being told. I like that.
Yes absolutely, to imagine having the same nightmares night after night only to wake up and realize that you are utterly alone, all your friends are dead and so is your daughter that you fought so hard against the first alien to see her again, only to have her taken from you. That scene had new meaning once I watched it again after I had my own kids.
its PTSD
It was a fake out done right and it makes total sense considering the trauma she went thru in the original. When Ripley discovered Parker and Lambert’s bodies in the original she is absolutely horrified and considering the extremely violent and violating nature of the aliens I would be hard pressed to believe that someone didn’t walk away from some sort of trauma after surviving an encounter with such a creature.
Sorry but how did that not make sense to you before!? It’s pretty obvious given what Ripley has gone through...
@@southlondon86 i saw Aliens before i saw Alien so i had no idea what Ripley had gone through in the first movie

Not liking the negativity towards the cast. Newt was great, Hudson was amazing. Nobody in the cast did anything lower than a good job. I'll entertain an opinion about not liking certain plot points or writing but the cast did everything they were asked and more.
The worst performance was from the actor who played Wierzbowski. Any time he was on screen, you wouldn't even know that he was there.
@@MrWhipple42
Wait who?
What's wrong with the plot?
@@callanbiehn2992 In my opinion nothing. My point was ( I think ) that I could respectfully disagree with someone who didn't like plot thread X but shitting on the actor that played Newt is just someone being a dick.
I remember watching Aliens as a kid with my best friend almost every time I spent the night.
Probably the single most watched movie in my life...
Alien and Aliens, are some of my favorite movies Everyone's entitled to their opinion I guess. Even though they're wrong
Newt is an important character as she give Ripley a maternal trait which contrasted nicely with the queen. In the end, it was mother vs mother, each protecting their children. The actress played her minor passive character perfectly... mostly. I don’t know how she could of been played better really. Some people just don’t like child actors I guess.
Kenny syndrome. Any child in aby movie is automatically a bad thing regardless of contexts or impact. Named for Kenny from Gamera.
There's also the fairly obvious character development going on regarding Ripley discovering that her daughter passed away while she was in cryosleep, the guilt she feels about that, and her (perhaps subconscious) decision that she was going to be a better mother to Newt than she had been to Amy and save her come hell or high water. Of course, the cinema release cut skipped over that very crucial scene with Burke at Gateway Station which reveals all of this. I really wish that scene had been left in the cinematic release - even if it meant cutting some of the action sequences short - as skipping over it does the Ripley/Newt relationship a disservice and it also makes Burke's betrayal sting all the more when you remember that he was the one who was given the task of trying to compassionately inform Ripley that her daughter was dead. They lost a lot by cutting it out.
Just feel need to point out that Ripley was already a mother
But heh I like Newt
Aliens is a action scifi military thriller creature feature. That's how I classify it. It's thrilling. Not really horror. But it's thrilling and action packed. It's militaristic so it has to be considered military action as well as a creature feature thriller.
And it's the greatest action scifi military creature feature thriller ever made. Ever. And I'd have it in my top 20 favorite films, and objectively it's a top 20 action films ever made and a top 30 or 40 scif movies ever and a legit top 100 films ever made.

Any review that calls Prometheus brilliant should be ignored and blown out an airlock.
Out of the goddamned airlock ;)
Couldn't believe that Covenant actually the alien out of another goddamn airlock. That's 4 times if you include the white washed freak from what is a my personally most despised of all Alien films, Resurrection. That's 4 deaths by airlock in 8 films & though it wasn't an airlock, stylistically , the end of AvP 1 was a complete rip off , sorry, homage , almost down to the shot. That's kind of 5. That's not creatively challenging.
Honestly I liked Prometheus. I thought the story was good and the world was interesting and the props and monsters all looked cool and kinda scary. My only main issue is some of the characters’s decisions but besides that, I don’t understand the hate for it. Personally, I would actually say it’s the third best in the franchise.
Michael Scott Well if they’re in a spaceship then it’ll normally be the first and best thing anyone could do. It’s like a case of “don’t fix what isn’t broken” I guess. And I don’t think it’s fair to say avp did the same thing. They tied the alien up and pulled it into the ocean, that’s actually completely different.
@@l.pricetag.5207 well, you're right in that it's not fair to include A vs. P in my point but you're wrong about why & I was wrong to even mention it because , honestly , I dont even count those 2 movies as part of the greater franchise though I'll admit that the first one is watchable enough but still it hurts the franchise to a point that a movie like Resurrection or Covenant, awful though they are, never could. You jettison any semblance of respectability when you pit 2 monsters against one another like that. Now you've gone & turned it into Frankenstein vs Dracula . Now it's been reduced to Wolfman meets Creature from the Black Lagoon levels that is ultimately destructive to franchise. The 2nd film is almost unwatchable. About the airlock though, I dont think you or anyone can say what the 1st option is if you're trying to kill one of these things. They did it in the original Alien because it made sense being that they didn't have shit for wrapoons but here's thing . We're talking about a movie , not real life because in real life we haven't yet achieved interstellar travel & we haven't had any murderous , predatory stowaways so nobody knows what the ' first , best ,' or option would be . But in a movie I know what isn't . That'd be blowing another alien out the goddamn airlock . Why ? Becsuse it's boring. It's been done .How about this for a wild idea. Let's make an Alien movie that actually opens up the universe created in the first two films & expands on it instead of just putting out the same ,tired ,rehashed junk over & over so that our movie doesn't have to end with a climax on another spaceship that necessitates blowing another goddamn alien out another goddamn airlock .
i love the first 3 Alien movies, the 4th is the misstep , the 3rd i love but only the extended alt cut of it, it makes more sense

Alien isn't a horror film. It's an awesome film.
There are dozens of reasons that all so called cinema rating/critique sites has lost their entire crediblity
Well, to be fair most of those reviews in the site are highly positive to the movie, 8.3 is really high and gives a good idea to what we are about to see, then there is this idiots too as well
Yes, the dozens of reasons are generally known as "users".
User reviews are not professional criticism and never have been. Part of a critic's job is to try and distance themselves emotionally from the piece (for at least part of the review) and judge the thing objectively in the context of its genre and other pieces in a similar style. On the other hand, user reviews are almost entirely subjective and emotion-driven with all of the bias, fallacy and personal interpretation/filtering that implies.
The best time to read them is after you've already watched/listened to the The Thing and decided for yourself what you think of it. 🙂
To be honest, ever since the critic vs user review disparity on season 1s of Star Trek: Discovery vs The Orville, I have a massive distrust of critics reviews now.
This is exactly why review websites like IMDB do suck, as there are always those idiotic reviews. This is also why I don't bother scrolling through the reviews anymore, as there will be always be some idiots on there with terrible taste. Then again, the critics aren't much better most of the time.
The reviews from last time were hilariously stupid, can’t wait for these new ones!
I gotta say, this time they were less stupid and just diassapointed.
As a thirteen year old when I first saw this movie the dream sequence did confuse me for about ten seconds. Then I realized he was just trying to show us the PTSD that Ripley suffered from every night, and maybe every moment of every day. I can completely empathize with this scene, she must have been going through hell. And back then I just loved the dialogue of the marines. Now, many years later as an adult, I can confirm that yes a lot of REAL marines DO talk like that. All of the dialogue is very close to what you would hear from marines in real life. I can imagine how normal civies just have this false notion that marines are just stone cold and don't fuck around. All the characters were just phenomenal. Even Burke was amazing, he made the audience hate him so well, amazing acting and dialogue with him. You can see him skirt around things with "corporate talk." One of the best films of all time and this channel does the franchise great justice. Keep up the good work man.
I understand the argument that the xenomorphs are easily killed. My head canon is that the marines had really really good weaponry. And I can understand disappointment in getting a more action-centered flick instead of horror-based...I've seen the same with the Resident Evil video games franchise. It's definitely not a pure action flick, though...the characters here have more depth than most action flicks I've seen.
The worldbuilding is still fantastic. Like I said in my comment on the 1-Star Alien Reviews video, I still think this universe is worth exploring even without the xenomorphs. Unlike the clean/polished look of Star Trek, this one is dirty and uses clunky tech. The retrofuturism is real!
I like the marines (especially Vasquez and Hicks, though Hudson's growing on me), but I really like Ripley in this film. Unlike some sequels, Ripley still feels like Ripley. Maybe I'm a sucker for happy endings, but I love how she basically faces the xenomorphs again and--this time--has saved other people, learned to trust an android, and is finally being taken seriously about the threat the aliens pose.
Another movie with a similar aesthetic is a lesser known film called Outland if you haven't seen it
I think the dialogues of the marines are pretty realistic. It is not like they were all la crème de la crème of society.
The military is just a small cross section of the general population of society. You have your dumb violent jarheads, sure, but I've met some very smart and articulate Marines during my time in the military.
Never are, and never will be, but they get shit done
What did you want them to use, harsh language?
I really like that, Hicks looking at the monitors and them saying Aliens is a piece of crap with the one star reviews, that did for me. 🎃
Clever bit of editing. 👍
How so ?
Man I just watched Aliens last weekend with a friend . Keeps getting better and better with each watch. I catch more details I missed last time. Subtle movements or looks and gestures. I also only watch the directors cut now seeing it as the definitive version. Anyway, just gushing over how much I love Aliens and Alien.
Man.. i gotta be honest with you, ever since i heard Cameron commented on Sigourney's undressed scene in Alien i've aquired a distaste for the man. That being said i absolutely love Alien and Aliens. I continue to love all the actors, the cheesy lines, the queen and even the pulse rifle's sound. Nothing will change that, but Cameron seems to have grown small in my eyes.
i totally agree, talking about Ripley like that but then in True Lies he does it even more with Curtis. Nowadays he has become a kind of hypocrite. I lost my respect for him when he endoresed Terminator Dark Fate.
Always a bit disappointing when old men that you once respected decide to lean into the Creepy as they continue to age. 😟
@@sixstringedthing probably that hollywood syndrome you get when succes finds you, you get the feeling you are better and able to dictate and not look inward anymore
@@thegreatestevil1616 true that, but most of them usually stick to commenting on politics or rattling the can for the social issue du jour. I wish Cameron had gone down that route or even better, just kept his mouth shut.

Prometheus is an equally brilliant prequel. 😂😂😂😂👌
I think the first review got one thing right (in no way the score). I too consider the xenomorph was dubbed down compared to the first movie.
Overall, this wasn't a huge issue and in no way makes the whole movie a bad one, but I would have loved to see our protagonists against a bunch of "smarter" aliens.
You mean “Kane’s son”. That particular xenomorph was intended to be that way, as it took on Kane’s traits. The warriors and drones of Aliens were intended to be that way for protection of the hive and Queen. If they had a pulse rifle in Alien it would have been blown to pieces as well. Every Alien is as different as their hosts are. My take.
@@astro-blaster4190 I know that each alien inherits some traits from its host, but if that were the case, in Aliens we should have seen a lot of diversity when it comes to the xenomorph's behavior and abilities. The colony had a lot of people, each with different physical and mental abilities, skills and traits (engineers, scientists, surveyors, construction workers, security officers, cooks, teachers etc). The regular alien was dumbed down just so we could have a new baddie that felt more threatening than the original, and in many instances they posed a significant threat only because of the plot inserted the all too convenient "human stupidity" element in the mix. As I said, I really liked the movie but I can't shake the feeling that it killed the myth of the "perfect killing organism".
I am apoplectic(I don't get to use that word often)at this moment😂 Will always be in my Top 10😉 Great video man, and your Bill Paxton Rule is absolutely correct👍🏾
The one problem I have with Aliens is the way it departs from the first. In the original, there was no queen to make eggs; an individual alien did that by capturing people alive and slowly turning them into egg pods. That was the whole point of the horror you discovered at the end for why the crew members were being taken alive.
It is a perfect horror of a life cycle. But Aliens made the "male" creatures less horrifying by the introduction of the queen. Now, a single male alien is formidable, but not really that bad.
The original Alien modeled the aliens off of a kind of wasp, a horrifying insect that lays its eggs in other insects and arthropods. A single one is terrifying, and it is a solitary creature, depending on nothing and no one else except its victims.
Aliens made the creatures more like ants, which can be terrifying, sure, especially in South America, but the ant's real power is in its colony, not itself.
Not even a harsh language!! I love all 4 of them Alien made in 79 and a woman had a lead role she was awesome, film is unique in every way 🖤
alll 4? even alien resurrection? damn, that is hard-core
Same, I even have the Alien Resurrection comic book that came out at the same time and I bought and read that first before I ever got to see the movie, I think I was 11 at the time, the comic was written off the storyline and even has some stuff that wasn't in the actual movie.
I can’t stand resurrection

23:08 "...an equally brilliant prequal called Prometheus..."? You mean the brilliant work that had characters that remove safety equipment in an alien environment, don't know how to move out of the way of a falling object but instead run in it's shadow, don't know how to find their way out of an alien ruin even though they brought the mapping equipment, recklessly antagonize an alien lifeform, recklessly experiment with unknown substances of alien origin using living subjects with no controls in mind, etc. etc.?
Undoubtedly, Cameron killed the creature turning it into a brainless space ant commanded by a a queen, stripping the A LI E N from all the mystery and behaviour displayed in the first film. Cameron had wished for a while by then taking the book "Starship Troopers" to the big screen, and saw in Alien the perfect opportunity, turning the creature into an arachnid of his own.
He was once asked when he was gonna make the Starship Troopers movie. His response was "I already did it. Aliens", so that would be all.
The mystery of the creature and what made it so scary was, precisely, how similar to its human host it behaved, not like an animal jumping from wall to wall.
I love this movie I’ve been watching it for over 30 something years I watch it like 10 times a year sometimes more than that in some years it is a fantastic movie one of the best in the eighties and I’d say just slightly above t2 in best of Cameron’s movies

I agree with the first reviewer that the alien as portrayed by James Cameron turned a terrifying unknown into a hive insect. Thematically the Queen and her Brood fits the the movie very well as a parallel to Ripley and Newt conceptually the idea of an alien queen forever destroyed the mystique of the alien. Visually the movie looks more like the future scenes shown in T2 rather than the universe established by the first movie.
I wouldn't rate it a 1-star though
Some of the best special effects ever made in a movie, and people don't like it. This is how World Wars start, because people are dumb
Not only have I seen the Star Wars Xmas special, I saw it when it originally aired, as a 9 year old, and I was utterly mortified, confused and alternately bored. It was bizarre and jarring and not what I was expecting.
One of those reviews said they hated how quotable the movie is, and this comment section responds with countless quotes from Aliens. Ultimate badasses.
Ants arent mindless! The workers are just highly specialized, but they still have the full range of behaviors that are necessary for it to take care of itself
I love the Aliens movie, I prefer the first one, but to me they are both different types of movies. I am one of the few people who thoroughly enjoy the long buildup. I enjoy the atmosphere, the setting, and the thematic world. I love Cassette futurism, the style appeals to me a lot.
That being said I agree with some of these reviews. Some of the marine lines are just cheeky, but it never bothered me that much. The worst offender being "Vasquez, you're just too bad". I also think the movie would do better without Newt, I never much cared for her character and it feels forced sometimes as she's there to move the plot forward. I'd like to have seen another direction there.
Aliens is definitely one of my fav movies. These reviews are pretty great. Thanks for the laughs.

I always enjoyed 1 & 3 more than 2 anyway, 2 was a nice action setting for the franchise, but 1 & 3 kept the thriller-suspense the solo Ailen character drove. I'm willing to be a lot of these reviews happened after Avatar, and they've seen parallels in Pocahontas, I mean, Avatar, that they saw James Cameron do in Aliens.
Great VIDEO! we need 1-Star Reviews for ALIEN 3 ASAP
I am one of the rare fans who loves Alien 3 best (Assembly Cut.) All four are great though... these reviewers are drunk or something.
@James Pawson What are your thought on Alien 5 Neill Blomkamp aka Alien 3 reboot?
@@whocares8014 I wasn't aware, thanks for the tip! I read some of the alternate scripts (William Gibson's and the notorious wooden planet one) would be cool to see some elements from those.
I actually read the novelisation of the Alien 3 screenplay before I saw the film, and I think it's a great entry in the series. In my opinion, watch Alien for suspense, watch Aliens for thrills, watch Alien 3 for the dialogue and a sense of creeping dread, then burn the rest of them in a dumpster. 😆
@@sixstringedthing oh I should read that. And don't forget it was directed by a young David Fincher. I always mean to make a video at some point about why I love 3, lots of personal reasons too.. So good.
I plan to rewatch 4..I badly want to like it.. Evil mentat Piter DeVries in it.. Surreal French director of Delicatessen.. Feel like Alien fans should at least appreciate it on some level.
Me too but it took time as on release I hated Alien 3. But that was mainly because I read the earth war novels beforehand so I had that story in my head as the third alien movie. But now so many years later it’s ranked high on my fave sci-fi horror films.
Aliens was state of the bad ass art at it's time and inspired more than any film to this day. While the first film is the perfect organism, aliens stays frosty even today.
“...mostly...” nice quote drop man! I like it!
These reviews crack me up :D , Thanx Alien Theory dude!
Giving james cameron's aliens one star is a joke it's clearly 5 stars and this is coming from me who didn't grow up with it but have watched it the last few years and fell in love with it it's a masterpiece just as the first is!!!
I think the only critique that holds any merit is the ones talking about the scenes with the ships, as they do look quite dated compared to the star wars films of the time but at the end of the day this film was never about the space ships it was about as you said people with training and hi-tech equipment coming up against something they were never trained for or even capable of handling and the humanity and horror the group finds themselves in.
Dude... U r a master of your craft, about my all time favorite franchise. I appreciate that, truly. Thank You. 💯
The second 1 star reviewer nailed it.
For myself,
Every 20th Century Fox film that has slapped
the name " Alien " on it, is a reductive practice.
Cameron simply remixed plot points of
the film it followed.
Countdown to auto destruct. Strobing lights and all.
The story arch went from something completely enigmatic and alien. To a " bug hunt " shoot-em-up.
Momentarily entertaining. Yes.
A profound cinema story - No. Sigh....
It reminds me of the film " The Exorcist " (1973). Often imitated. Never duplicated.
Same with Terminator 1 & 2. Terminator 2 is the first film, but with a kid in it.
I loved Aliens so much I went back and saw it again the next day. I then brought it on every format including the special edition. It’s fair to say I loved it beyond measure. Unfortunately over time I have changed my mind as Alien continued to mature like fine wine and my appreciation of Alien 3 grew. I now think Aliens whilst being a very enjoyable film wasn’t a good Alien film. The departure of Ripley’s character from the original is too big to explain as was the the departure of the Alien itself. All in all the realistic nature of the first film was abandoned in Aliens.
Can’t stand the hate Bill Paxton got from some of these reviewers. The man BROUGHT IT in every film he acted in! He was taken away from us too soon...
Nuke em from orbit, only way to be sure.
I fricking loved Bill Paxton! The guy was a absolute genius who could switch it up. You only have to think of a genre character and it's ALWAYS likely to either be played by or connected to Bill! Chet, Severin, Hudson, the guy had it all! Taken way too soon. It always annoys me, fate is a shit, druggies, winos and the like survive, yet the talented ones who've got more to give, go before them........
“How Do I Get Out Of This Chicken Shit Outfit?!?
@@nickmattio3397 "You secure that shit, Hudson!"
I love these videos ! Thank You Alien Theory for making for making this content im so happy i found this channel
Can we make the reviews of "the one star reviews" a regular thing (Like maybe bi - monthly) not to frequent but every once in a while just love these
I love Alien and like Aliens very much. They're two completely different movies that are both shining examples of brilliance in their respective genres. I can agree with the point that Aliens diverged very much from the original film, and that the world building is the main thing that makes them different. I kind of see them as two separate stories, existing in their own timelines. I know that's not canon, and I'm ok with that.
