I’m another central Texas woodworker, and long time big fan of your channel. Your cherry dresser series was so eye opening for me, and it’s one of my all time woodworking-CZcams favorites. In my opinion this bed build is an A+++ representation of your channel for all the new subscribers
Very cool! That dresser was such a fun build. Wish i could do one again.
This is a really masterful woodworking video, and it's really fun to stumble upon it. It's very difficult to tell a story like this that can show how detailed/technical, but also how artistic the process is. Captured here extremely well and frankly there's not a lot of stuff out there like this. Terrific.
Very nice piece. Enjoyed watching and learning all of the techniques.
Hey Andy, that's a beautiful piece! I always loved the look of walnut.
And a very neat trick, splitting the trim to fit it in place, then re assembling it.
Great work!
Beautiful work. Definitely worth the money for the craftsmanship.
Beautiful bed. Fantastic job
Thank you for sharing your expertise
Fantastic to see that some people still make craftsmanship a priority.
69 cents per night on this bed + 47 cents per meal on Chris's table - thats pretty good deal :)
That is heirloom stuff right there Andy.
Beautiful piece, Andy. As usual, your craftsmanship is outstanding.
Bill
Thanks Bill
Gorgeous build!!
Thanks!!! Appreciate the epoxy!
Andy, what a great build. Your clients are sure to be very pleased with how lovely it looks and the sound investment they've made. It will truly last for many generations. It's so great seeing you spray finishing this piece. You've become so skilled at finishing, so congratulations!
Thanks Marty! That means a lot coming from you👍
Clever use of the FMT, I've used that to make a dozen chairs and decided to get a domino 700 for longer stock but now I'll try this out
Anyone who doesn't understand handmade is always more expensive than 'mass produced' will be looking at the Ikea catalogue and not watching this channel.
True!
I really appreciate you talking about the price and breaking it down by materials and labor. I need a new bed, and I'm debating between buying a mass produced one, building one myself, or having one custom made. I'll probably end up building one, but it will be a ton of work because I don't have a fully set up shop.
I think the cost is just fine. I build a Walnut bed frame for myself and I had even more hours into mine. It's 10 years old now and looks and works just as good as when it was new.
Interesting calculation of value… Chris over on four eyes just did the same thing on his video today too with a dining table. Love the bed!
That joint has it all! It looks like a clean miter from the face, but has beautiful tenons from every other angle. ❤
Looks amazing beautiful bed amazing craftsmen ship
I always enjoy seeing and watching.👏👏
Everytime I make something solid, I always try to imagine what the world will be like when the kids grow up and their stuff is passed on. Its weird to think that something could last 100 years if it's cared for.
Beautiful!
Beautiful video ❤
Well executed! Would love to own a piece like this..
Nice job on the joinery. That was a hard one (and it fit!)
Andy your chisel skills are wild!!! hopefully ill get there someday, only been woodworking since 2020. Bed turned out beautiful you could get 10k plus for that.
Thanks for breaking the pricing down. Maybe some of my clients won’t be so shy.
It’s a nice joint
Totally worth the cost!
if you want the best you have to pay for it
another fantastic creation 👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Andy, another excellent video as usual. Can you possible tell us more about your finishing process and spray setup. Many thanks for producing such high quality content.
I spray with Fuji MPX gun. I’m mostly shooting Target Coatings conversion varnish or lacquer. I might do a video on it one day
Muito bom!!!!!!!!!!
turned out beautifullllllllllllllllllllllllll. what is cost of 8/4 walnut for you? im at about 11.50 here in AZ
Hey Andy! I see the hangboard in the background! Are you a climber?
I did some bouldering in my 20s and held in to it. Don’t do any climbing now.
😎😎😎👍👍👍
Probably won't see this comment but I have a very large native Texas pecan tree about to be cut down. I'd love for you to have the wood. Tree is in dallas tx.
Wish it was closer. That’s a pretty good haul for me
@Andy Rawls Darn! I would have loved for you to have it. Love the channel! You're so talented and awesome! Thanks for the reply!
Won't the Bourbon Moth followers be confused by the lack of pocket holes?
Ima just build a bed outta 2x4s
What are you doing with that big slab behind the mortiser? Good job BTW.
That slab is a headboard for a king bed I'm making in a few months.
Won’t last generations, but pretty bed though.
Tell me why?
@@AndyRawls the overall construction will last generations. The part that will fail in 10-15 years time is where the rails connect to the foot and headboard. It is flush unless you mortised them out off camera. Relying on the bolt to hold it with just two biscuits will fail. It will cause stress to the rails not allowing the bed to work as one.
The bed rails are attached with two tenons that register the rails to the legs, then we use the 3/8" x 6" bed bolt to pull the bed together. It's very sturdy and will not fail.
Absolute hot garbage for that price! No way you have that many hours. I would charge half that price. One man show!
Sir with all do respect there is NO WAY you could build this bed in 40 shop hours. If there was an easy way to do it, I would bring you out to my shop, buy the materials, and give you the opportunity to prove it. Only requirement is that you build an exact copy of my bed same veneered panels and same joinery.
When I finish the current commission I'm doing I would love to take you up on this. Love your videos, I hate veneer because you are better than that.. I'm also jealous of the price, I just made a solid spalted maple king for more than half the price. But I have more work from the same client.
@@stanleybell2672did you go out to his shop?
I love the fact that this bed will be passed from generetion to other but am i the only one to find it disturbing to having fun with your boy.girl-friend in the exact same furniture that my parents used for years ?
I would put those $8,600. under my mattress and be real happy sleeping over them. Someday my kids can get them and do whatever they want with them.
Fair enough!
it looks good now, but it won't in 25 years. People would just be tired of seeing it and put it on the curb and bring it to waste. It won't last for "generations".
Bourbon Moth is kind of a tool. Very childish and too California for my taste. But your stuff is dope
