"Summoning an ancient evil to draw people back to the church in order to restore power"
Right, when has that ever worked out?
In the show [supernatural], as the show gets on in seasons, it's revealed that angels are the "real" bad guys, as the bible clearly depicts the world being destroyed during Armageddon when lucifer fights Michael.
There's even a faction of demons try to prevent the end of the world, as that would save Lucifer from being killed, but the Angel refuse to deviate from "God's plan" and do absolutely everything possible to release Lucifer and bring about end of the world, because they're all good soldiers and to question god's plan would be to lose faith entirely.
It's kind of an interesting parallel/idea to see the concept of faith be corrupted.
That plot point wouldve been better if they just revealed that the catholic church was always an ancient order meant to bring about the resurrection of the antichrist. Rather than "Oh hey lets get Satan to scare everyone to come back to church!" But anyways thats just me lol😅
@@DaxSports1 a simple "Its foretold in the bible that it will happen so we must stand aside and allow it to happen, else we are going directly against god's will" type interpretation would have been good, them not being evil so much as them lacking action even though they know evil is about to come into the world because in their eyes its a "necessary" evil so the plan of god is done.
Makes you wonder who came up with this ?
You have to keep in mind, that was just Fr Brennan's theory. He shared that to Margaret without seeing the documents or any deeper investigations at all. There might still be a much bigger reasoning to it that isn't divulged by the bad guys at all.
I went in prepared to hate it, but I was pleasantly surprised at how invested I got. The acting is excellent (particularly Nell Tiger Free and Ralph Inseon), the music by Mark Korven creepy as he knows how, the climax is definitely bonkers and uncomfortable to watch. My only real negative is it’s not that scary, but that didn’t really bother me as I felt more like it was harnessing what made the ‘76 original spooky being more psychological than all boo-scares. Plus I like they waited until the climax to finally use Jerry Goldsmith’s iconic ‘Ave Satani’; though the little touches of the theme to Damien: Omen 2 was a treat if you pay attention to the score
It looks like it was filmed in the 70s too
The Omen was actually the first Final Destination concept.
I didn't know that, thank you.
@@adityarajswamiI mean it makes sense, how these people die from crazy stuff
Nice!
This got positive reviews by critics, hailing it as one of the best Horror prequels ever made!
The graphic birthing scene was trimmed in order to get an R rating, as it was originally rated NC 17.
By thirteen seconds. What a difference THAT made.
Honestly what we got left in was pretty uncomfortable to watch
IT WAS LONGER?!
I'm a big horror fan myself, I love me some slashers and you can never go wrong with cosmic horror
But Jesus S.A and horror relating to...well...births and such creep me out so much
Honestly the moment I actually felt sorry for Damien was in Omen 2. When Damien finds out who he is. And he runs out on pier and screams why me? It really shows that there was for a moment a brief human window in him. The scene makes me tear up every time.
Can he overcome his nature and destiny if there is a chance?
@@conq1273probably not since he’s been he devil😊
This movie actually disturbed me! That hasn't happened since Hereditary!
Weird seeing how it was mid
Lol what? How it was... hotel Transylvania scary at best 😂

Hereditary was absolutely crazy!!! I loved it!
The Omen 1976 is the reason both my parents(both from Irish backgrounds ) don't like the name Damian lol even though I like the name
Bruce's kid?
@@SpikeTheWolfwell sort of that thing. Damian mother is Talia his grandad razz al ghul and his father Bruce Wayne. Not the most stable situation for a kid to grow up in. Seeing he must pick his side sooner or later.
Cool story bro, needs more leprechauns and shit
Phew, had to alt+tab back into the video to check if Bill Nye was in the movie.
Let's all be thankful that he isn't.
Bill Nighy > Bill Nye
My jaw hit the floor multiple times throughout the movie. I became so disgusted when they revealed that the monster had to mate with the girl😭
It's not a "monster", it's Satan, and that never happened in the original or the book. Watch that instead.
Then you’re going to love “the hills have eyes 2”
Spoiler alert 🚨 massive graphic mutant r*pe
THANKS FOR THE SPOILER DINGBAT 🙄🙄🙄🤦🤦🤦🤦
@@Sassypants_666 im sorry, but my comment is nothing compared to the movie. you should still watch it
@@iroserena thanks for the apology babe …just so annoying when people do that and I really hope it’s still worth watching lol 😂
In the orginal Omen and as a parent, Damian pleading "No Daddy No", and the way it sounds is so heartbreaking.
Damian never knew what was going on, or that the terrible events were down to his existence, which makes that scene all the more sad as to him he had done nothing wrong.
Man - Still powerful 50 years later!
Interesting I never saw it that way before! I think it is up to interpretation but i thought it Damian knew who he was on some level (esp when he smiles at the end) and he was trying to manipulate the father which worked.
Honestly it’s such a great touch as Damien tries using Robert’s paternal instincts to save himself, but Robert does hesitate a moment when Damien says that. However Robert does regain his focus but as we know Damien wins
@@RoaringKetchup I took it that Damien learned who he was, where he is from and his purpose from one of his protectors/ watchers (Lance Henrikssen) at the Cadet academy in Damien Omen 2.
Thats when he realises he is the son of satan and where he is from.
Previous to that I don't think he knew where he was from and that he could control events on earth.
He has an inkling about his power when he messes with Teddy's head in the corridor, and also during the cadet academy tour at the Thorn factory.
You see his dark side and he seems to know he has some sort of evil power.
Up to that stage all the deaths when people realise who he is, or try to block what his destiny should be seem to be controlled and killed by outside evil forces which arrived when he arrived to protect his existence on earth.
@@waynewinky2754 then he decided to move to America and change his accent for the third movie 😂
I disagree. I've always thought Damien knew exactly what was going on, he only played the part of an innocent child. The evidence is there if you look for it. He is Satan incarnate after all, and the Bible says that Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light, it also says that he is a liar and the father of lies. He was doing the only thing left to him to do, which was to appeal to the good heart of the man about to end him. That's always been my understanding, although I will admit that I have entertained the "innocent child" theory in the past, and it also hit me right in the gut the first time I saw the movie; but the more I've watched the movie the more I side with the "angel of deceit" theory.
This is one of the best horror movies I’ve seen in such a long time love the cinematography love the practical effects highly recommended
I expected nothing special. I walked out pretty awe-struck. The visuals in this movie are top notch. It's very surreal, well shot, and disturbing. A legit 8/10, would suggest.
Agreed great movie . Not spectacular but , 8-8.5 out of 10 for avid horror lovers . For the average fan would rate it higher
Man most of the scenes were so beautiful you could easily have used any shot to be the movie poster
I didn’t get how the church got a hold of this weird beast that Margaret had to mate with. I found it to be a big plothole. Like, how did they get a hold of a mythical beast like that (didn’t look like a normal jackal at all)? And do they just keep it in a room 24/7? Thought it didn’t make sense at all.
That's what I question too? Found it weird on how was it created? Or it was summoned , who knows?
I want them to explore this in a future movie. The group made a pact with the devil. However they came across the animal it was normal but became a vessel for Satan and that's why it looked different. HOw they conjured Satan and this process I need to see. Also I want to see a full pic of the jackal from the movie. Was never really shown but a shadow as it was burning.
I think it was as a normal jackal that changed after it became Satan's vessel . or perhaps it was summoned.
I agree. Did they summon it like a demon?
Their master PR plan of driving people back to the church doesn't make sense either. Like they don't see anything wrong brithing the antichrist who will obviously turn against them?! LOL
I'm so glad this channel exists because sometimes I'm too stupid to get movies 😂

@@timeee2kill I think it is more that when I watch a lot of movies, there are like 3 million different distractions so I miss a lot of the hidden meanings. Obvi, not every movie is going to be that complex.
This movie is incredible in establishing suspense, and creating a creepy atmosphere. The devilish imagery is very effective and honestly I found it to draw me in moreso than most movies like this
This video on this omen prequel is perfect for this Saturday afternoon. I was expecting this and now it’s here.
Yup, it's after Sabbath. Very fitting for the Catholic centric movie.
@@princerose233You mean the Catholic-attacking blasphemous movie.
I remember seeing The Omen Remake in theaters
6/6/06
The whole scene of Margaret convulsing after the car accident had to be my favorite scene in the entire movie
That was pretty wild, but Nell Tiger Free
owns the moment
Great acting
that scene was drawn out imo
Most Omen franchise deaths are. And thats a good thing.@@jmoneybagsss
Paolo scene got me.
Another thing that bugs me is that in the orig Father Brennan seeks forgiveness for being involved with Damien being born but in the prequel hes trying to stop it already, not after he feels remorse.
The motive behind the evil plot in this movie is so stupid but realistic at the same time. "We shall make people turn to God, and we're gonna do the most unholy and evil thing in Christianity in order to do it!" They have a seemingly noble religious cause, but they're willing to work towards it at the cost of violating their own religious laws and killing innocents. It's so immoral and idiotic, but it makes sense because that's what we've seen from religious institutions time and time again, *especially* the Catholic Church.
Exactly. They even point that out how crazy it is in the movie but it's justified and actually makes sense in its own ridiculous way lol
Noble religious goals are noble only to the religious institutions , for everyone else it's just another BS
I'm glad you point out reality at end. There's a grain of truth in most fiction
If you think about it, in their view the antichrist is supposed to precede the second coming and the end times. They are just artificially inducing the end times to get people to believe in god
Incredible review! Always love the insight. I would love if you could look at all the omen material and do a retrospective.
Because you haven't the scope for an introspective.
I really love your videos and I was wondering if you've ever thought about doing the dead space movies
You can tell the cinematographer cared deeply about this movie. It had some absolutely gorgeous scenes. When she wakes up after the club scene and her hair is carefully spread out around her head in a circle and even in front of her neck so it perfectly frames her face. *chefs kiss
Another absolute banger video as usual!!
Ralph Ineson is a phenomenal actor. Very underused in this film
One 2024 horror film I'm incredibly curious about is Long Legs. If it's any good, I'd love to see you cover it at some point.
It’s such a great movie series tbh, i found this series yesterday and I’ve been hooked
I am glad they at least included the jackal I was worried it would be completely scrapped.
Despite lacking originality due to being part of a franchise, I would argue that it's the best of 2024 at this point of the year, tied with Late Night with the Devil. Writing and scares were definitely well done.
I think this review is too severe. The constraints were realized in that one has to connect to the original Omen. But the weaknesses are it's too derivative of the Omen? I think what makes this movie really good is the following of the unreliable narrator. The director really gets the audience to feel the sense of madness, powerlessness, and desperation of the protagonist. The review is right about the parallels to Rosemary's Baby. People in the comments who also mention Hereditary are also correct in that comparison, I believe. If you understand that the first omen is the woman and not really the baby, then the brilliance of the direction of The First Omen shines through. The horror is being the poor woman who in the end is the most abused. I was impressed by the film and recommend it highly, especially if you've seen any of The Omen sequels and are expecting similar quality. This movie is way better than it had any right to be.
My big gripe is timeline. It was good movie, I thought jackal stuff was fine not even retcon if really pay attention but in Damien trilogy Damien is 32 in 1971. And also being it's a fictitious cult, the reality is cults have existed throughout history so... Movie could have worked set some more years in past. And if you bump up the Damien trilogy it would work because apparently ppl got more sinful over time so either which way but again the year mess up is so distracting
I watched The Omen as a gradeschooler and loved it. Very happy to hear this is good and I will check it out
Why. I was born a few months after it came out and couldn't imagine watching it until 1984😂
I had a fear of Rottweilers for years after Omen when i was a kid watching it in the 80s 😂
I watched this last night and went in expecting it to be lame and ended up pleasantly surprised.
Sam Neill played the adult Damien in the third film - The Final Conflict.
Love the video can you do Plasmids,Vigors and Jack from Bioshock,Cerberus from Mass effect and More Peter Jackson's King Kong Game
I would love it so much if yall did Late Night With The Devil next
My heart was racing during the birthing scene toward the end
I heard Bill nigh and thought it was the science guy lol
Loved this film. Haven't stopped thinking about it all week.
When I hear Ralph Ineson talk all i hear is Lorath Nahr from Diablo and Cidolfus (Cid) from Final Fantasy 16, just love hearing his voice!
I was pleasantly surprised by this film. It was dropping in 70's suspense and dread. Easily the best Omen film since the original. The ending does leave me with questions, though.
Sequel cometh, I just hope they don’t try to make the baby girl as Christ and the boy Antichrist as both are the beast’s offspring.
There's going to be sequels obviously
@@josealvarez9904I can't agree more. Although we don't know if they will skip over girl just like they skipped over Delia. Damien had a son and daughter those were twins but daughter was born first, carried brothers egg till somebody else had him. Delia had no 666 birthmark shown but doesn't mean didn't. She had powers but when Alexander was born she submitted. Alexander had the birthmark on hand. That and Margaret and Carlita weren't over special unless count breeding capacity. They may not do female antichrist. Also after Damien died his children restart cycle, being raised by a politician so...
My only question is wtf was Paolo doing 😂
I really enjoyed this movie. Paid excellent homage to the classic.
Finchy is a bloody good rep and priest.
Often times, horror as a genre,is used to tell of the times and the state of the world it is made in. Like a proverbial mirror put up to reflect at its audience things we might not want to face or deal with. From what I take, The First Omen speaks of those in power who create problems in order to then after bring solutions to said issues, making them pass for heroes and righteous in the eyes of the masses. Not unlike to concept of the 'pyromaniacal fireman'... dark and sinister indeed !
Good afternoon film comic explained i remember watching that movie was scary
Up next please do The Belko Experiment
That movies would fit right into the channel. Office Space meets Battle Royale
This movie was excellent. First time in a long time I actually felt anxiety. Which is what this subject matter should do. Highly recommend.
Charles Dance & Bill Nighy are both in it, well it gets a immediate tick of approval doesn’t it!! If those two greats thought the script was good it’s obviously one to check out 🎭
Nope. It's just a quick cash grab for them and for dupes to pay the theater price since they don't know actual Omen facts that gets screwed up in this movie....
@@Amp661 some people don’t care about continuity of the story line and I don’t believe Charles is a ‘cash grab’ actor, they both don’t sign up for any old 💩 and receive enough scripts to be discerning when accepting work!
Do late night with the devil please!!
I love this movie. Easily going to my top 10. So happy to see a movie exploring how great Nell Tiger Free is ❤
Can you do Alien Species,Geth,Collectors,STG,Spectres,Mercenaries groups and Alliance from Mass Effect,Injustice Universe timeline from DC and Plasmids,Vigors,Booker,Frank Fontaine and Jack from Bioshock
If the Church was truly desperate for rule, to the point that they would try to summon the Antichrist, then the Church doesn't deserve to exist. The First Omen was an excellent prequel. Probably the best prequel since Ouija Origin of Evil
You are AI and you mention desperation?
It is so you make the choice.
Prophecy isn't up for interpretation and it certainly doesn't exist for your opinion.
I remember those movies
Could you also do an explained video of the Fallout show? And your review on it
I wonder if this movie is a soft reboot of the franchise. Erasing the events of the latter 3 entries (Omen 2,Omen 3:The Final Conflict and Omen 4: The Awakening).
It’s a prequel and it leads in to the start of the original ‘76 film near the end. If it gets a sequel, we’ll see if they go from where this one left off or if the events will happen between the first three films
Didn't say was reboot, I believe directors about own projects. Only issue is year. 1971 Damien is 32
If this film was set a few years earlier it'd work. If Damien trilogy was set later it'd work. Even in 2024 ppl would vote ppl like Damien into office. Politics are always same
That's a Cool Thumbnail
Watched it a couple of days ago, finally a decent horror movie, without stupid jumpscares and predictability, it was for the most part well thought out, but it looks like the prequel is gonna need a pre sequel? They left a lot of things unanswered, seemingly to be continued, which might not be such a good idea, you can't exactly create a franchise out of prequels of an already finished story.
What needs to be explained. There is a genre of horror that's quite decent without over explanation. Fear Street for one and all classics before over did it with sequels. Oh goosebumps books are in it too. Monsters just cuz monsters exist, and it works. Lots goosebumps books are better than most horror movies. in a nutshell omen has a mutant jackal that mated with a girl to make antichrist. There was a cult. Now good movies sometimes get ideas from real life but beyond general vague satanism it's bad luck to pull too much realism in
I heard Bill Nigh and thought Nye and had to double back.
That was a pretty dramatic suicide
Very unsettling
Haha, after flipping through your summary I was more than a little amused to hear such deep critiques of this well-crafted and very effective film especially as you, somehow, negatively compare to the likes of Immaculate and Late Night with the Devil. Don't quite get your taste, but it's the wrong way around for me. Can't recommend The First Omen enough, a movie that seemed to only be fumbled by the studio marketing team and now, you.
Child drawing is always accurate in horror movies😅
Luz means Light in English... Luz showed Margaret the light of the Dawn of the Morning aka how to worship Lucifer with lust and intoxication. Just my 2 cents
This man really just stood there while a pole fell from the sky and killed him, this man had a whole two hours to move out of the way.
This same man also walked away with half his skull and brain missing like it was nothing, AND FilmComicsExplained called it a laceration, lol.

@@pb.j.1753 Completely agree. Way better than that film. I really enjoyed the first omen. Did not expect a lot but thankfully I was pleasantly surprised.
Anybody know the outro music name?
Que - Underground Kings
Just saw it, it was alright.
What pissed me off with this otherwise very well crafted movie, is that they have changed the lore of the *The Omen (1976)* and the character of Father Brennan. See below...
1, In The Omen, Father Brennan was looking to save Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck) so he would be forgiven by Christ, for his involvement in the plot to bring about the birth of the Anti-Christ. However, according to The First Omen, he did not play any part in that plot. Nor does he witness Damien's birth. Whereas in The Omen, Brennan says *"I was at the hospital the night your son was born!"* and *"I witnessed the birth"* In The First Omen, Damien was not born in a hospital.
2, In The Omen, we're told Damien's mother was Jackal. A thread that was also upheld in The Omen's sequel *Damien Omen II* However, The First Omen ignores that, and Damien is born to the movie's protagonist *Margaret Scianni* who was impregnated by a Jackal.
3, In The Omen, Thorn and Jennings the photographer find the grave of the Jackal who we're to believe gave birth to Damien. However the name on that grave is *Maria* Scianna, NOT Margaret Scianna.
To people who are not familiar with The Omen? If they watched, it will only serve to cause them confusion, due to what The First Omen set up. Its now all out of alignment. Ironically, The First Omen director claims she's a big fan of The Omen! I don't think so love!
*I met Harvey Stephens in 2016 and had a few beers with him. I've also met David Warner twice, and visited a lot of The Omen London locations. Including, the cathedral where Damien has a meltdown, the mansion, the church where Robert attempts to kill Damien and the American cemetery which is in Surrey, not Washington as depicted in the movie.*
can we talk about how every woman in this movie was insanely gorgeous
😮 oh no
loved the original, got to say it needed a re telling , looks like it's gonna fill a lot of pants
Good stories never need a retelling. To those who can't leave things alone, I guess so
Still cant work out where they found the jackal beast and how they managed to get the beast into the depths of the building? What did they feed it whilst it was there?
PAL with marrowbone!
It was the devil brought forth through ritual.
They summoned the devil through a ritual.
They CIA helped them
This was good moovie. I remember when I watched it with my uncle 😁 maybe that's why I kinda like it.
btw it would be cool, if anticrist would be just some guy who believes that is led by heavens,, but in reality he is led by hell :D (that guy would not be neccesarily bad guy, likes but no)

@@Amp661 the only difference is that his mother is not a jackal. His father was a jackal/satan. It works

Is it just me or did Luz resemble Mrs Baylock at the end? Are they supposed to be the same character? I know age wise bit of an age gap but if they're changing a bunch of things from the story it could be a possibility?
I don’t think so because they still used Gregory peck …but if they did a follow up she could maybe fill a simmilar role
@@billmcdermott9647 I think that was just to give a familiar face connecting it to the original film by having the protagonist’s picture make an appearance. She just gave me similar vibes to Mrs Baylock like similar look and mannerisms. It looks like she could be more involved if they go ahead with a sequel.

Hell is coming Margaret. Hell is coming
but isn’t in the OG Omen damien was born on 6-6-66 at 6 am not in the 70s?
The First Omen was a solid, scary time at the movies and served as a good prequel to one of my favorites, the ‘76 original.
I found myself disturbed often, sucked into the performances, and digging all the vibes. It felt classic. It felt like Rosemary’s Baby lol
which is a great thing.
The cinematography and sound design really worked to create this dread.
I really liked all of that.
My biggest beef was with the kills I guess.
They didn’t work for me and were totally too derivative of the original.
There’s really not much justification for them, besides fan-service …
Otherwise I was impressed with just about everything else they did with the movie and I really cannot wait to see if they pick it up with a sequel? That could be fire.
No. This is not how Damien was born. In the book his mum was a jackal. The truth in the book is more horrific than this film. Father brenhan has a big part in it all in a very bad way
The least believable part is where the diplomat is a moral man.
But there is a resurrection, therefore the grave hath no victory, and the sting of death is swallowed up in CHRIST.
9 HE IS THE LIGHT AND THE LIFE OF THE WORLD; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death.
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😊
