2006 Damion looks evil from the get go, so no surprise that he is the Antichrist. But 1976 Damion has an angelic face with a hint of something that is not quite right. And the original soundtrack is beyond terrifying and when you hear it, you know where it is from.

As far as remakes go , it was a fair attempt, with some genuinely scary and effective visuals, but the original 1976 version is a cinematic Horror masterpiece. It is riveting and atmospheric from the start , and the creepy music score gives it a menace and frightening unsettling feel to it, the a genuine feel of evil in its depiction of the anti-christ and it's is so eerie and scary. ...........Classic

True, you can tell just by looking at the scene where they open the grave of Damien's mother. In the scene in the 1976 version, the background is dark with the chilling chorus music adding to the dark, eerie atmosphere that befits a horror film. After they look into the grave, before you even see what's inside, you see Thorn make a sound that shows disgust while the photographer turns his head away closing his eyes saying to himself "My god." Their reactions alone send the message that they just saw something both shocking and horrifying.
2006 version, the scene is well-lit with a blue background, no background music which isn't always bad and after they open the grave, their reactions are pretty restrained with photographer saying "What the fuck is this?" He sounds more confused than shocked while Thorn seems pretty stoic.
In the older version, it added a level of terror to the film. In the newer version, it felt like a one-off as one would think that Thorn would at least show some shock or horror given it's made clear just how unnatural Damien's birth was: a jackal conceiving and birthing a human child is impossible, sending the message that Damien's birth was of divine (or rather anti-divine) or supernatural intervention.

I find it interesting how so many people decide that the stories can't be told again. The 76 Omen is not the end all be all story or the Omen, and it had some good moments, but I personally love the nod of having Rosemary as the nanny, and the scene where she is feeding him strawberries is beautiful. I think the remake is a bit more subtle in some instances, and then more intense in the right places. Though I typically don't enjoy 70s horror that much.

When Warner's photographer is beheaded there is little or no blood, although some red paint pots jump in the air as a sort of substitute. I don't like the idea of adding anything new unless something was OBVIOUSLY missing from the original, or something could have been done better. For instance, I looked at the documentary on The Exorcist yesterday and the omission of the spider walk was discussed. It's a shame it wasn't in the movie, as creepy as it is. The director said he didn't know how to make the scene flow smoothly from the mother's reaction upon hearing the news about Burke's death and then a few seconds later react to seeing Reagan spider walk down the stairs.I never liked the way she reacted to Burke's death. It always seemed too fake; overdramatic. Anyway, the producer said he should have let her hear the news of Burke's death and then IMMEDIATELY before she even had a chance to react to Burke's death, she sees Reagan spider walk down the stairs.
At any rate, I prefer not to have remakes. Often times, the modern technology totally takes away from the authenticity of the movies. I don't want to see digital props on screen.

The remake of The Omen is just like the remake of Psycho - unoriginal, unimaginative, no direction of its own, a total copycat, shot-for-shot remake. Horror remakes should have their own tastes, new plot lines, elements, while staying faithful to the original.

Personally, I like the nanny's death in the remake just a little bit better, something about how the rope to the noose being longer, the noise of her body hitting the wall and her shoe crashing the wine table just adds a little bit more to the trauma thise kids will have. Also I like the use of a black shepherd over a rottweiler.

There are a lot of differences between the original movie and the 2006 version. The Omen was a masterpiece because of his director: Richard Donner. I think no one can argue that. Another difference was the soundtrack. The original movie is a movie with an entirely beautiful soundtrack. Jerry Goldsmith, the amazing American composer, collaborated with Donner. I could continue: For example, Gilbert Taylor made the difference, too. Taylor was his director of photography. That cinematographer worked for Hitchcock, Kubrick, George Lucas - Taylor was Star Wars cinematographer - . Well, that's all for today.

I think I prefer the cinematography, locations and sets of the original, but I preferred Julia Stiles to Lee Remick, and I thought Mia Farrow was amazing as Mrs Baylock. I did think the remake Damien was a bit too overtly a creepy child: whereas the kid in the original could convincingly pass for a normal child, the kid in the remake you'd be a bit shocked if he wasn't inherently evil.
I never really understood in both versions why Robert tore out of the house. If he's have driven like less of a maniac, he might not have aroused so much suspicion

I found the 2006 Damien not even near as scary as the original one. He is the one who doesn't give me any chills, he looks like just another "creepy boy" and not really what the original looks like. Damien needs to look like a "normal" child, to make us feel confused between knowing that he is evil, but same time, seeing an "innocent" child and understanding why the police dude saved him from being killed.
