Carbon Monoxide Detector / Fire Alarm Won't Stop Beeping - How-to Replace

Things Even I Can Do: Episode 16 Fire Alarm / CO Detector Replacement
My hard wired combination carbon monoxide / fire alarm started beeping in the middle of the night. It has a back up battery which I had recently replaced. I put in fresh batteries, but the beeping continued. The following night, an alarm in another room started chirping (again in the middle of the night) despite also having fresh batteries. Turns out, these alarms have a 10-year max life and must be replaced. This video shows how to replace the alarm with a newer model that uses different connecting clip. We show how to remove the alarm from the ceiling, turning off the power to the alarms, wiring a new modular power clip, and restoring the alarm to the ceiling. These hardwired alarms are designed to activate all alarms in the house even if only one is activated. This is an important safety feature so be sure your replacement models properly integrate with the rest of your system.
