    I never realilzed that the "Brown" detectors started out white...but the fireproof coating changes colors over time, which helps let you know when they've expired. I always wondered why someone would pick that ugly brown color, lol.

      I'm pretty sure that's a house where someone smoked, I'm replacing my alarms that are 10 years old today and they are still as white as the day I installed them.

      @@jasonf777 All 8 in the house I bought new 16 years ago are a nasty brown. Smoke free home. I guess they’re all a little different.

      @@weekendhomeprojects hmm, maybe some do change color over time, im not sure. Maybe it depends on the conditions in the house, light, heat, humidity etc.

    Y’all, just do the wiring. I’m 12 years old and I changed hardwired smoke alarms, and I didn’t use any adapters.
