This is one of the biggest and best albums of all time. The whole record is 🔥
This band was a juggernaut in their prime. I think lyrically this has to be one of the most classic choruses in rock. And the lead singer, Axl Rose, definitely has one of the most standout voices in the genre. He typically sings in a very high register, but actually has a super-wide overall vocal range. This was the late 1980s when high male voices were the rock music norm. There’s a lot of great songs in their catalogue.
I feel strongly they had a lot more in them if they'd kept it all together. Like a band you could mention with the all time greats.

While GnR's classic line-up did not survive (so we will never know if they could/ would have released more albums together...maybe things would have been worse for them, had they stayed together?? we just do not know), the band itself did survive with different line-ups. They still tour, they are tight, happy & very successful, to this day.
To me, they are & always will be one of the greats :)

@@cbr1517 While ofc many new bands also have that same passion I feel like capitalism has gotten in the way of their success. Quick and easy songs with a nice chorus are much cheaper to mass produce :( Well, one of many reasons.

Guns n Roses, has an Epic Trilogy, It starts with "Don't you Cry", then "November Rain" ending with "Estranged" Each of these songs are very powerful, together they are AMAZING!!!

Axl Rose the greatest frontman of all time. My favorite band of all time hands down.
The name of the guitarist in the band is Slash. he is an icon, he is a very very talented person, a master of improvisation and the vocalist axel rose is known for his incredible voice and behavior, one of the great frontmen.
I strongly advise you to listen to other songs of this group, you will like them very much))

You hit it right on the nail…music today and really, for the last 30 years is all about the stage show, and nothing about talent.
Back in the day, it was all about actual talent…writing, singing, instruments and stage presence.
If you`re new to GnR, I think the best next song to react to, will be "Sweet Child o`Mine". I saw the band two times at a live performance. First time in the early 90s and last time in 2017. They are absolutely phenomenal on stage! They performed nearly 3 hours!!!
So if you have the chance to join a concert of them, you absolutely have to!

I absolutely love watching people react to music I grew up listening to. My mom was a teen in the 70’s so these kind of bands are all we listened too. Love how everyone still loves Rock!
"Don't cry" "estranged" "November rain" "you could be mine" (excellent song) and the tough one for me is "sweet child of mine" reminds me of my one that got away.

Axl a Frontman’s Frontman Slash is an Absolutely Amazing Guitarist. Duff has Killer Bass Lines & Backing Vocals. That’s Classic 70’s Hard Rock on Steroids.

Fun Fact - Appetite for Destruction remains the ONLY album in the Top 25 of all time that is that bands debut album. This came out when I was a Senior in HS and it was AMAZING!!!
Axl Rose is the lead singer so yes in all the clips it is him, the rest of the band sings backup.
In their prime guns n roses was absolutely untouchable axl had one of the best voices in rock and roll history and slash solidified his status as a guitarist legend with the solos

I was 11 when AFD hit the shelves...I still have it on disc and LP, it still gets played, this song is also the title track of the soundtrack to my fave video game ever, Burnout Paradise, this is the first song played whenever the game is launched. Always get's the blood flowing.
My favourite band of all time! I saw them live in Houston back in 1992--the best live show I have ever seen.
Rock bands were all about the band. The vocals were amazing but everyone in the band were incredible musicians.

I love Guns N' Roses, you're in for a real treat when it comes to Guns and Roses and it comes with a bit of a Kick!
Guns N' Roses were the most unlikely band from L.A. in 1987 to make it big... w/ 5 members who were homeless, reckless, jobless and struggling w/ drug and alcohol abuse... Their debut album was called 'Appetite for destruction' because Guns N' Roses had a reputation of wrecking everything when they played shows... But from 1987 to 1993, they became the biggest rock band in the world.
And then, Guns N' Roses disappeared...
For Guns N' Roses, lead singer W. Axl Rose was the rock star... lead guitarist Slash was a stellar guitar hero (he would play on Michael Jackson's 'Dangerous' album in 1991) ... The band came together after 2 kids from Indiana left home for Los Angeles to escape their abusive families... Izzy Stradlin (guitar) went first... then, his friend from school William 'Axl' Rose (lead vocals) joined him. The 2 joined the band Hollywood Rose, when Axl (and Izzy) first met guitarist Saul Hudson (aka 'Slash') ... In 1985, Axl and Izzy joined the band L.A. Guns feat. guitarist Tracii Guns and opted to rename the band Guns N' Roses... but months later, Axl fired Tracii Guns and replaced him w/ Slash (lead guitar) and Slash's friend Steven Adler (drums) joined as well w/ Duff McKagan (bass) rounding out the band.
Guns N' Roses were a great band live, but were trouble on and offstage... drugs, fights, arrests, mayhem... were constant... but their music was really good, and by 1986, the band finally got signed to Geffen Records... They finished recording their debut album 'Appetite for destruction' and it was released in 1987 without much fanfare. However, in late 1987... MTV played their first music video 'Welcome to the jungle' and the requests for the single exploded... By mid-1988, they had the #1 selling album (it would sell 18 million copies in the US alone!)
Guns released the EP 'GNR Lies' in 1988 w/ 4 acoustic songs, and it was another hit... but the band courted controversy w/ their rather explicit lyrics for the time... Despite their popularity, Guns N' Roses was still unstable and always on the verge of self-destruction. By 1989, they opted to clean up to get back to recording new music... Unfortunately, Steven Adler (drums) was unable to get clean from his drug abuse and his playing suffered in the studio... He was fired in 1990.
Guns put every song they could on tape for what was to be 2 albums - "Use your illusion" Vol. I and II in 1991 w/ Matt Sorum (drums) and Dizzy Reed (keyboards) joining the band... Izzy and Duff contributed lead vocals to songs as well... That year, the 2 albums charted at #1 and #2 in the US and would sell 7 million copies each.
However, the tour proved problematic... Axl Rose's erratic behavior would result in chaos, cancellations and even riots in 1991/ '92... Izzy Stradlin had enough and quit Guns in late 1991... Gilby Clarke (guitar) joined and appeared on Guns' music videos, but the band was spiraling w/ drug and alcohol abuse as they toured into 1993. They released a covers album 'The spaghetti incident?' that year...
Unfortunately, Guns N' Roses could not get together to work on music or agree on anything... the band imploded by 1996 as both Slash and Matt Sorum were fired... Duff McKagan quit... There was just no Guns N' Roses for years.
Axl Rose had demanded the rights to Guns N' Roses in 1991, so he was free to form a new Guns N' Roses going into 2000 and put together a cast of revolving musicians... After a long delay, Rose released the Guns N' Roses album 'Chinese democracy' in 2008, but without any original members, the Axl's Guns N' Roses struggled to regain their popularity.
In 2016, Axl Rose finally made peace w/ Slash and Duff McKagan... they announced that Guns N' Roses would be touring on the 'Not in this Lifetime' world tour (Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler were not asked back)... but they have yet to release any new music.
Slash has recorded a number of albums since 1995 and also records & tours as a solo artist w/ Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy.

Your reaction is great! Welcome new fan. So when this song came out Axl was just heading to LA after having grown up in a church choir, where he thought it would be like paradise city but when he got there it was more like Welcome to the Jungle and a bit of a culture shock for him. That’s why those 2 songs happened. I share about some others on my channel a now deceased beloved friend helped on with the General Chicken boys. I add a bit of context to the era of music, the cultural impact their songs had… like did you know Nightrain ended up symbolizing helping others and people amidst a nationwide youth homeless crisis in the 90’s organized feed the homeless days where they played this song while they handed out food? So many times their songs had such big impacts that did so much good for the world. Scraped taught women admits a homeless crisis it was ok to say no.
Anyhow loved your reaction. I’d still like to see people discussing what the song means, the different musical styles used in a song cuz gnr was a transitional band in an era hair bands had become formulaic and peeps were getting tired of it but weren’t quite ready and open enough for new things. Their diverse range in music opened listeners ears to new possibilities as they added blues, classic rock, de*th metal, and this is why they’re credited with saving rock n roll. So when you discuss a song it’s good to research it and what it means and why it was written, and the understand cultural impact of the time. If I had any tips to give. But you did great and you’re fun to watch. And I love seeing fans discussing their music. Keep up the good work! Look forward to more of your reactions/reviews. Love your headphones too. Anyhow my parrot does the Axl snake dance over in my gnr stuff cuz turns out she’s the world’s biggest parrot fan. You are right. The first part was filmed at Giants Stadium🏟 in New Jersey, USA. The second part was filmed at the Monsters of Rock festival at Donington Park in England. Axl, the singer, has always had a fixation with constantly changing clothes.

In the late 80s a friend of mine introduced me to GnR and I was sold immediately! For years I listened to their albums almost daily and I am still loving it nowadays. It is too bad I never managed to go to a live concert because I would have loved to be in that crowd when the played Paradise City. There are plenty of other GnR songs I consider very good: Welcome to the jungle, Sweet child of mine, Patience, You could be mine, November Rain, Mr. Brownstone ...

I know what you mean when you cant remember if you have heard a band before. I worked at Food Lion back in 1992 and I didnt know who GNR was but the music sounded familiar when I hear cars passing by in the parking lot I hear Sweet Child O' Mine.
Funny thing was I had their original single tape of Dont cry with the alt lyrics on the other side and didnt even realize it was GNR.
Hard to believe people haven't heard of them.

This song became important to me in '90 after having been through both of the US military operations in Panama, Paradise City to me is... Panama City where the grass was always green and the girls were very pretty :>)

You mentioned how you like when musicians feel the music. If you haven't already heard about Liliac, I highly recommend them. They are a completely independent family band. They do covers of the classics...Metallica, Dio, Iron Maiden, Joan Jett, just to name a few. They also do their own originals. In fact they just released a new original called Carousel. I truly think you will love it

You had a very good reaction with yours. I also liked your Axl dance. The lead singers stage name is Axl Rose, so the dance that he does when he sings, I always call it the Axl dance. You were doing it after you saw him do it and you did a good job doing his dance. You were smooth. His real name is Bill Bailey (William Bailey). Great reaction!

Great! Now, how about a reaction to one of Slash's idols, the guitar legend Rory Gallagher? Rory was a pioneer in exploring how to extract sound from his instrument without the use of a lot of special effects and was courted by Deep Purple and the Rolling Stones. Please take a listen to the bluesy "I Wonder Who" from 1984 Belfast performance or "Calling Card" from the 1977 Hammersmith Odeon performance for a sample of what this great performer could do. Rory still has a faithful following and July 7 will see another posthumous release of a highly anticipated live recording from a London performance called "All Around Man".
