The Good General is always among the finest guests you have on your channel, Sri. And what he referred to (among a lot of points) about the Karakoram pass connecting Xinjiang to Ladakh, has a historical significance that has mostly been forgotten in India with the exception of a few individual academics - Prof Madhu Kishwar comes to mind. For centuries, the Uyghur rulers of Xinjiang paid obeisance to the Maharajas of Kashmir before the 18th century Chinese conquest of the province. In addition to the renaming of Tibetan territories, India needs to help it's historical allies in XInjiang with recognition beyond helping our people in Tibet.
PS And, perhaps, you might consider inviting Prof Madhu Kishwar to your channel too? Both you and she have much in common...

Historically, China's emperors in past dynasties have always been afraid of divided devotion to the imperial throne in China.
Even though China had conquered those weaker vassal states, yet non-Han population's loyalties were always suspect, and rebellion was always an issue.
Culturally and religion-wise, Tibet is closer to India than China.
That's why the US/India Dharamsala visit rattled China as fanning a latent threat to the CCP's message of national unity.

I was bewildered when at the overconfident statements from BJP before the election was getting to be too much. Now we can understand that the beraucrats were as incompetent as they always are when required to defend their position expressed. Also not following the established management procedures in BJP party affairs which has been exposed also by Sri Subramanian Swamy would have avoided lot of the problems in the minds of constituents. If they had followed their own principled position we would have come out well. I also understand that when they started looking into corruption problems they were so all pervasive that if exposed it would have destroyed the economic functioning of the country. Let’s hope that this will be taken up forthwith in the new term of Modi Government. Sundaresan

A major problem that India is facing, in my opinion, is that China is rapidly building large numbers of twin engine fifth generation fighter planes. While India is stuck with the idea of single engine fighter planes, for whatever reasons. At present we have the capability of manufacturing engines of smaller capacity (Kaveri), why not apply the 'jugad' principle and build fighter planes that have two of these Kaveri engines? Definitely these fighter planes may not be as big as Su-30, but surely they will be of larger capacity compared to Tejas. They will have longer range and more arms carrying capacity as compared to Tejas.
Having a world class engine is always desirable, but the policy makers need to have their feet on the ground and be practical. To learn from our nemesis 'China', they built a plane and were initially using Russian engines. When their own engine completed it is development cycle they have switched to the new engine.
There is no other recourse but to change our approach, if we want to avoid the repeat of previous Pakistani misadventures. Do not forget we are looking at a two front war in future. Every time the Pakistanis get a better fighter plane or weapon, they have been invariably tempted to wage a war (1965, 1971). Hope the big wigs and top brass in the Defence ministry and the Indian armed forces are considering this danger from future, which is staring us in the face.

I would like you to ask your guest here - Gen Shanker to give his views on one other way of looking at the issue here.
So during the 1971 war, when the west did ask China to carry out some activities against India, it did not do so. One can say partly it may have been that it was aware Russia was there to support India. But it has thereafter carried out aggressions on our northern borders. So even if one can look at it this way that it does not get drawn into any aggressive posture at the behest of others unless it itself wants to do so. In the present situation are we getting pushed into a situation in which the locus of control rests outside India? The reason being that possibly the intention is to shift the arena from South China Sea to our region. The reason being that in region close to China with some small countries dependent on the west for coming to their rescue, the west would have to jump in the clash itself, which it probably wants to avoid at least for now. Because, China has become more aggressive with those small nations close to it and support from N Korea as also Russia developing greater relations with North Korea, if the attention can be diverted from that region to the Tibet, it could be buying more time to support those small countries in the future, at the same time knowing that India can handle China if things do turn ugly in the Tibet region. Because so far although India had been looking for a greater support from the west for Tibet it did not happen but suddenly there has been a more keen interest shown now.
China has all along tried to avoid any large military action anywhere but its philosophy now is to strangulate nations in its way of expansion by getting them under its influence and actions economically. ( Shift from the flaming dragon to that of a python). This is what it has done with small nations around India and now in its expansion strategy in Africa. It knows that the west was now looking at other options to reduce its dependence on it for goods and hence needs to have other poor nations to continue its trade. It is definitely also building its military capabilities to match the west to take them on when it knows that the west market is longer looking at it for cheap goods.
So, what is the best option for India - wait and watch what the west does beyond the recent visit of Nancy Pelosi and China’s reaction or jumps into the arena to make it look like a WWF game.

1 don't think that China is rattled as yet.
But if India and the USA work together with true trust in each other with a sense of purpose and determination, China or Xi Jingping would have to listen to the reason and see the reality of its position on Tibet.
A sense of purpose and determination don't mean just talking - sometimes sweetly and otherwise and posturing but hesitation to do the heavy lifting.
India's plan to rename 30 places in Tibet is a bit of childish idea. If India tries to rename places in Kailash Manosvar ( Ghangrinpoche and Tso Mapham-yumsto ) region then India would have fallen into the Chinese trap. In such eventuality China will quickly and conveniently accuse India of trying to colonize Tibet. To many by standers Indian action is not really to help Tibetans to get out of the black hole but to demand a slice of Tibet to do business with China.
I truly hope India can see the trap.!

The Resolve Tibet Act "Rejects as 'inaccurate' China’s false claims that Tibet has been part of China since ancient times.” That is absolutely true.
"In 1842, a peace treaty was indeed concluded between the local authorities of China's Tibet and the Kashmir authorities". "As per the Chinese Government official's statement made in 1847 to the British representative that this section of the boundary was clear."
On the Eastern Sector, McMahon Line, frontier between Tibet and Assam in British India was negotiated between Tibet and Great Britain at the end of the Shimla Conference (1914). That means Tibet was independent entity for over hundred yrs with right to do international agreements at least from 1842 to 1949 when Communist China illegally occupied it.
The Resolve Tibet Act strengthens India's position Vis a Vis China.
It is clear that Aksai Chin boundary was well defined but Chinese changed their mind after Nehru unilaterally surrendered Tibet. China then cleverly incorporated Aksai Chin into Xinjiang to eliminate1842 treaty & Tibet's right on it. China has also reduced the original boundary of Tibet & incorporated its areas into mainland China.
India's Indo-Tibetan boundary lines have as much sanctity as Vladivostok, Sakhalin Islands which became part of Russia & Hong Kong which became part of Britain with well defined agreements during that period which China calls its Century of Shame.
After Modi's victory despite massive Western echo system against him, US has realized importance of India & need to concentrate on Tibet. However, India must be careful. The US & its 5-Eyes proteges have been supporting Khalistani terrorists jeopardizing security of India .
India should treat US as Frenemy country keeping good relations with Russia. India must extract full advantage to eliminate western interference in Manipur & in internal affairs of India. Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina has warned about Western attempts to create a new Christian country in India's eastern neighborhood...

China exports 200 billion worth of goods every year. It's open secret that china's exports to India are heavily underinvoiced to ivade import duties in India. A 100 rupee item is imported at 20 rupees. It's five times under invoiced. Assuming 100 billion billed at actual prices and 100 billion under invoiced.
Actual imports from China are at least 600 billion dollars.
India should ban low technology items from China forthwith. At one stroke reduce Chinese exports into India from 700 billion dollars to 100 billion dollars.
Indian manufacturers will soon fill the gap. And the kind of scale our domestic market is, we will soon match the Chinese prices.
It will be best detterent for Chinese aggression.
