Insanity!! What the hell kind of design is that?? Wow that is a lot of work.. Thanks for sharing..
Thank you for sharing . the engineers dropped the ball on changing a headlight bulb đ€
Nice video. It's really stupid that you have to remove a bumper to change a bulb. Great engineering.
Many cars are this way now. A few years later they made access holes but you still have to remove things to get to it. Cadillac moved things to the outside of the engine bay to give room for that corvette motor. The car has racing bloodlines, the suspension is ferarriâs bastard child. Even the V-6 years in the 05-09 later became a way to make a fast camaro rs with 300hp. If you want a car that is easy to maintain get a basic car. Why get nice things and be ungrateful without finding out why.....unless you buy German cars, then your just asking for it...they do so many things to sabatoge do it yourselfers with no other benefits it should be illegal. On the other hand they force thier cars to be maintained by people who know how so it helps thier image....as long as the customer knows nothing about cars and just sees âshineyâ
@@spoada wow, what a load of garbage. Only the CTSV has a corvette based engine and the whole line wasn't designed around that. The headlights having to be removed to replace bulbs is indeed very poor planning, it makes no difference to sell the car but it does to maintain it which doesn't cost them money, it costs you, so why spend more designing things that are repairable easily when they don't benefit, that's why it is indeed a poor design. The other rubbish about German cars, I've no idea what you're even talking about. I've had BMW's for years and there is nothing on a BMW I've ever had that is deliberately designed to make repair or replacement hard, they're very straightforward with minimal specialist tools, oh and I can swap the headlight bulbs in 10 seconds.
@@Kiowan918 Iâm late to the party, n it is a pain but I kinda enjoy having to spend real amounts of time to change parts on my car. This car is very old and mine doesnât run at its peak but is still a ton of fun to drive.
It's crazy
Thanks 1AAuto you helped me save money with this easy to understand video..... It took me about 1 hour to replace my driver side headlight only because I did not use a lift or jack... I removed all the snap in plugs but only removed the 10 mm screws and nuts from the driver side which needed replaced. Again I just want to thank you guys because they were going to charge me $140 at the repair shop.
You don't need to take out the whole bumper just to change the headlights bulbs. There is an access hole behind each headlight assembly through the hood side. You just have to remove a couple things like the air filter intake or the fuse box and other minor things jusy to get to it. Then when you see hole, twist off that black cover cap, although the access hole is about 3-1/2" you might need a someone with medium to smaller hands to reach in and twist off bulbs to come out and put back in. Might be a little tricky, but way better than taking off whole bumper in my opinion
Thank you. I will give it a go :)

Wow. You're videos are excellent. I'm a self-confessed hack when it comes to auto repairs; usually attempting the repair and then calling a mechanic when i screwit up. I remember once watching your video on how to replace an electric window motor in an older Ford Ranger. I followed your instructions step-by-step and was able to successfully accomplish the repair. Now, I get to do this headlight replacement with my Mom's 2007 Cadillac CTS. Going to go for it and have my ipad and your video by my side. Thank you!
+Jetnick Thank you for the great reply. We love to empower our customers by showing you how-to perform your own auto repairs while installing our high quality auto parts. Have a great day! 1aauto.com
+Jetnick Thanks for getting back to us. If you want both the high beam and low beam bulbs to be a brighter bulb then you would need to change out all four bulbs. If you are looking to change to LED there are kits out there that allow you to install LED bulbs into a Halogen headlight assembly. The ballast is only required on vehicles thats have HID bubls, not LED. You would just need tof ind LED bulbs that are compatible with the vehicle and you should have no issues. Hope this helps you out.
You would need to replace the entire light because they are a fused piece. We carry them on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393 with free shipping.
I'm 70 and have worked on cars my whole life. You're vid was a lot of help, Thanks.

Thank you for the step by step.
This was such a pain and the reason I love working on my 1972 Nova instead.
We currently do not have a video of this repair. You may be able to reach in back of the housing and unscrew it. If not then there should be three bolts (I believe) that are holding it in place. Here's a link to that light on our website. It should give you an idea as to where the bolts are. 1aauto.com/1A/HeadLights/Cadillac/CTS/1ALHL01884/521563/2009
Great video. It took us about 3 1/2 hours to replace our headlights. We would've saved time if we had the car on a lift. On a '03 CTS, there is another small screw you'll have to remove that isn't mentioned on this video. Thanks for the great help. You rock.
+Yves Johnson Thanks for the tip about that screw on the '03. We're glad you liked the video. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393

From what I can tell my 2009 CTS looks like just about the same process? Do you know of any differences between this body style and my 2009 body style that might throw me for a loop?
Outstanding explanation !! Thank you sir for taking the time and posting this video!!
That wheel fender, do you sell them? I need a new one for my CTS 07. The fender that you separate from the bumper cover to get to the 10mm Bolt.
Except not that front liner specifically. The one that is right behind it, closest to the rear of the wheel. I know those 2 are two different fenders. But I need the one that is closest to the rear of the wheel. Mine is cracked somehow, and everytime i turn the wheel rubs the cracked part and it creates a horrible rubbing sound everytime I turn right.
We do not have a video that shows you how to do this. You may be able to access them from inside of the trunk or there might be a screw that holds the lens in place. They shouldn't be to difficult to repalace.
I have a 2006 cadi cts base but I canât find the part for the little diamond light that looks led
Hello, first, thanks for the great videos. My passenger side HL was cracked a few weeks ago and this morning I noticed my dim light was out on it... Can just the lens be replaced when replacing the bulb??? Thanks a lot!
Thank you so very much. You've been a Great help.
Does this apply to the 2004 CTS-V?
I noticed that he did not have to disconnect the headlight sprayers.
I have an 04 CTS and Iâm having flickering problems on the passenger side.
Ive read that this is a common issue but i canât find any solid fixes. Iâm considering replacing both the headlight assembly and the wiring harness. If you have any experience with that issue any input would help save me an unnecessary change. Thanks!
Any way to buy a new headlight made with glass instead of clear plastic? Those plastic ones I feel turn pretty ugly pretty fast from all that heat coming off the light plus exterior scratches from road debris.
Thanks for checking us out. There may be some companies out there that would manufacture a glass headlight, however, the plastic design is what will most commonly be offered. Hope this helps you out! +Mame A
Will the lights in your link replace the ones that have the washer built in or are these for standard lights?
Is it possible to take off the bolts and nuts between the fender and bumper cover without an extension?
thanks very helpful for my 04 cts!!
1A Auto Parts I have a 2003 Cadillac CTS Sport and my driver side headlight works fine but the passenger side is very dim on low beam and quite working all together when I switch to high beam. Any help would be greatfull
Thanks for the tip
And quick question: do anyone know what type of nut that is underneath the headlight
Since the bulbs are 9006xs would the reg 9006 option work trying to get leds for my co worker he has a 04 cts replaced the housings and wants brighter bulbs
This video was very helpful, but just to warn you it's 10,000x more difficult than it appears. Though the cheapest quote I got was $250 so as much of a pain it was getting around fenders and getting those bolts to fit right i couldn't bring myself to shell out the cash. Couldn't do it on my own without the video so thanks much!
I cant seem to get the high beams to come out its like they don't want to be untwisted what should I do? and I installed the low beams but they only come on when I turn on the high beam
Thank you I have to do this on an old CTS... awesome video...

How do u replace the little license plate lights

I have an all black 2006 CTS-V and my headlight assembly trim is all black. When I look at the part on your web site it also looks all black but the unit shown in this video looked like silver/gray with a thin black trim. Are there color choices?
+Howard Woodard Thanks for watching! Yes, the headlights on our website are only for the standard CTS, not the blacked out CTS-V. Unfortunately those are the only ones we offer at this time! 1aauto.com

Blows my mind all that has to be pulled down just to change a light bulb. Why the ingenious ingeniers have to make it so complicated?
What size is the bulb?
When I looked up the product on your website, it says "for non-HID lamps." I have the original bulbs and housings in the '07 CTS I just bought. This correct? If so, do you offer a better replacement for the housings with newer-tech lamps?
HI Joe if you 07 Cadillac CTS didn't come with HID lights, but came through with the halogen lights these are the headlight that you would need. We do not carry an HID upgrade kit. www.1aauto.com/1A/HeadLights/Cadillac/CTS/1ALHP00199?VideoReply&CZcams&ATony

Great video! Thank you brother!
+Leonardo Theelion Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
is srx the same ?
anyone know the ball socket part number
thanks
First, thanks for the video. It was great. The passenger side headlight bulb wasn't working .I attempted to access it from below the control module but this CTS has the hid style bulb instead of the usual quartz halogen. I was able to access the high beam bulb, but the HID style with the big square base cannot be maneuvered out from the back. Space is too tight.
Notes:
1. Being a driveway mechanic, I keep small rolls of old carpet in the garage to lay on the ground to work. I found that it was unnecessary to jack the car up. I was able to access everything easily laying on my back on my carpet, my favorite work position. Lol
2. In the description on the video it says to remove the â3â plastic retainers in each wheel well. When I inspected, I found another, âfourthâ one up a few inches. Removing it gave me a lot more room to work around the plastic sheets.
3. My CTS was missing all but the two end plastic retainers on the bottom.
4. I found the best way to pull the pins from the retainers was to pry up a bit on the right and left with a screwdriver, then slide a plastic pin puller under the head where it had been pried up a bit . The ones beneath and in the wheel wells were very tight, and all full of dirt
5. I couldnât access the two nuts with a regular 10mm socked. I had to use a deep socket.
6. This job was less than half the work I thought it would be.
7. Along with all the dirt, the bolts and nuts were very rusty. I sprayed them out with pb blaster then came in to type this up while it soaked in.
8. It came apart fine, unfortunately, it wasnât the bulb that was bad, it was the ballast/controller. I figured it out by swapping over from the right to the left.
9. The car may be sitting there disassembled in the driveway for awhile until I can get a cheap replacement ballast.
The video was really valuable. Thanks guys.
Kind regards,
Steve Barbershores

Thanks for the tips- Iâm about to get to work on mine now. I now remember part of the reason of got rid of my old caddy. I love them, but when something so simple goes out, the labor is ridiculous. What happened to being able to just pull up on a rod and twist it out to access the bulbs? Itâs times like this I miss my truck. At least I donât take anything to the shop unless I absolutely have too.
And 1A Auto Parts, thank you very much for this video!
What is a "Ballast" and how does it affect headlights? Thanks!
Kick ass comment man. Fixing one up and the headlights are no longer holding adjustments. Going to buy a new set of headlights, they are cheap cause dumb ass kids, and old folks have ruined most of these cars. Supply is over running ctsâs 05-07. Less than 200 bucks for hids with halos....they used to be 700 bucks each!
Good stuff can you do a 2009 cts my Low beam went our and the dealership us charging me $800...wtf?
So what do you do when the all the 10mm nuts and bolts holding the cover on have either stripped their threads or snapped in half because they were so rusty?
That's a tough one. I would try using plenty of penetrating oil, let that sit for an hour or so, coat them again when you come back. Then I'd use vice grips to bite on to them. If that still doesn't do the trick, you could try getting a set of EZ-Out sockets and hope that helps. 1aauto.com?CZcams&CTA%20Comment&ATony 866-403-3393
Thanks, Idk what to do... I managed to get both bolts out, but the four nuts left have all stripped their threads. They just spin and spin. I might have to just cut them off and figure something out later when i'm putting everything out later
Thanks!!!

Jesus Christ that's great engineering!
10mm deep socket. Pull the pins off the top of the trunk and remove the liner. There's 8 bolts there. Remove em and be careful because the bezel gets loose. Afterwards, you can move the bezel to access the lights.
They should both come out the same way.
Today I installed a set of halo aftermarket headlights. I have no jack and no lift. I did not need to unbolt the underneath of the bumper cover. There are actually 5 black plastic rivits in the wheel well and 3 bolts under the wheel well cover. I'm not very mechanically inclined so for me to do this by myself and call it easy, well then anyone can do it. Took me maybe an hour as I wasn't in a hurry and took my time. If I had to do it again, would probably take me 30 minutes as it's very easy.
The shop told me it would take them 2 hours and cost me $407 hahahahaha
I have since changed both low beams, the process is very easy to replace the headlights
I'll only charge you $307, lol

Such a nice guy haha
is it the same for the cts v?
That particular model may be a different procedure from the model shown in this video.
While you're in there, look at the connectors and wiring going to the bulbs and see if they are melted or the wire insulation has turned black (except for the black wires, of course) and if that's the case, you will want to replace the connectors. Your local auto parts store should have the connectors with short lengths of wire on them. Use good wire strippers and good crimpers with the proper wire crimps, or better yet, solder the connections and then tape them up IF you're handy with a soldering iron. My intermittent headlight issue turned out to be a damaged connector. Which I replaced, and replaced the pair of lamps while I was at it.
No need to take out fender. Just access in front of wheel. I did it yesterday in 10 minutes flat.

The 10 mm nuts holding the bumper on- on mine are rusted and strip really easily. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get them removed.
Penetrating oil, wipe debris, repeat. Then spray again. Do all rusty bolts. Wait 1 hour if its warm out, 2 hours if its cold. Use ONLY 6 point sockets! Rest in between wrenching, work fast and keep pressure on the nuts!
