I’ve just been plugging in my iPhone with a USB cable, opening a QuickTime new movie recording, and setting the source as my phone. On the phone, I open up Filmic Pro and turn off the UI. The quality is amazing and lag-free, but isn’t wireless and is MacOS-only. It’s a good alternative if you just want a face-cam.

You can actually use IP Webcam in OBS without a plugin as well.
Once you have the IP Webcam app open and started, enter its IP and port as listed in the app into the web browser of your computer. A control page will open. Open the full screen page which shows only the video page. Then copy that link and paste it into a "browser" input object in OBS.

I used the free EPOCCam on iOS - gave it a test run and liked it so much I got the paid version for $7.99, which includes green-screen, LED-Light control, several options for bit rate, size, etc. Now I can freely walk around the house (and yard mostly!) and stream/record. Not only does the android IP webcam app work in obs it works in the elgato stream software as well. Using the same exact principle. The one issue i have with using the phone as an IP webcam is the obvious delay and lip sync issue for live usage. I have android and I use droid cam and connect via usb which has no latency what so ever. It is Free. You do have to jump through some hoops with your phone to let the camera pipe out via usb, but if you follow their instructions precisely, it works terrific. my old galaxy s6 is now a permanent webcam. I'd love to see you check that out and see if you like it! Then of course we look forward to another video. Thanks!

Just run the Free NDI tools and add the device (iPad, iPhone, etc) and add in OBS the Newtek item. Works fine without the OBS add-in. The benefit of the free NDI tools is it works with any other online tool like Zoom directly.

Scott, I don't think you need to turn on the NDI settings in the Tools drop-down. That's only if you want to use that OBS program as a source (output). Just installing the plug-in automatically adds the ability to receive an NDI stream over the network. (Clue: That 'NDI Source' will be in the sources menu as soon as you have the plug-in installed. Remember the 'Restarts' everyone! and yes it must be the same network.)
FYI: I also found that using OBS as a source on another PC over a wi-fi network was problematic. Plugged in the ethernet cable, rebooted everything and it worked fine.

When my trusty old Tascam audio interface broke recently I nearly threw away my, even older, m-audio USB audiophile interface as well. You know why? Answer is, I didn't follow the, very detailed, instructions FULLY. They're there for a reason and setups involving multiple apps/devices WILL almost invariably be more complicated than just say streaming to FB live from your iPhone direct when it's all in-house.

For Android I've been using iVCam and like it, you can adjust exposure and white balance and lock them down (which I prefer). I upgraded to pro to remove their logo and I think it was $7.
But do you know of a phone app that has more control and features like my built in camera app has....things like stabilization, color saturation, all that kind of stuff??

Droid Cam also does the same sort of thing but also has some ability to modify the incoming stream (in the paid version, worth having for about 5 bucks). Uses either USB or WiFi. Phone must be in developer mode with USB debug on. Did not work on an older Galaxy S4 (Android 5, pix froze) but was fine on my new phone and Galaxy tablet.

The good news: The product works for both OBS and iPhone. Bad news: The iPhone app overheats my iPhone to the point that it gives me a Temperature Overheat Screen and freezes until it cools down. Tried it twice with same results. Curious if others had similar issues.

    • @ScottFichter

Yes, the objective is to get your phone screen to show up on your computer and then you would bring that computer screen into OBS. Take a look at this software www.airsquirrels.com/reflector. You connect your phone with USB and the phone's screen shows up on the computer. Talk to you later.

Right now. I am switching between static web cams, and I've been watching your vid's about using cell phones. This led to my question...
How can I connect from ZY Play so I can use a Zhiyun Smooth 4 gimble so the steady cam feature eliminates the "motion-sickness" inducing video of the hand held?

  • @JoshM7
    @JoshM7 Před 4 lety

IP cam basically sets up a server you remote into via your browser and you can control it all from there. Things like switching to the front camera, zoom, manual macro etc.
It'll also give you the addresses you simply copy paste into OBS via "Media Source"
It's actually very easy if you're somewhat familiar with basic stuff like "192.168.0.1" kinda stuff.
I recommend setting the video quality to 20-50%, never 100% as that's very very very bandwidth hungry, and in my opinion pointless as 20-50% looks just fine. (100% I was seeing 80+ Mbps when you should only need 20Mbps or below)
