Today, I remove the nasty matte black vinyl wrap from my new daily drive, a 2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG, and it's a little worse than I thought underneath. OK, maybe a lot worse.

@Tavarish What is said in the opening theme song? “Be afraid”? “Be a friend”?
You don't need a stepmom you already have a Jared
You need to keep the rims black
@@russellross3299 Yes, light colored car = dark colored rims, dark colored car = light colored rims.
it's definitely a panda car Tavarish! :P
RECALL NOTICE! Hey Tavarish, there's a recall on the front panel between the windshield and the sunroof. That panel on my 2016 S-Class was fading like yours, so the dealer replaced it under warranty before the recent recall. The new replacement panel is now glass like on the updated models.
I can't find any info on this. do you have a TSB number or link?
@@tavarish here's one for a front panel between the sunroof and windshield for adhesive bonding failure as well Recall Number

@@tavarish The NHTSA Recall Number is 21V197 and the Mercedes recall number is 2021030019. If you run your VIN on the NHTSA site or MBUSA, it should come up. Here's a portion of the notice:
Safety Risk
In this case, the adhesion of the front panel to the vehicle body might deteriorate gradually over time and could result in the front panel to partially or fully detach from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury for other road users.
Remedy
An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will remove the bonded panel and will install a new front panel by following the detailed repair instructions and using the approved primer, cleaner and adhesive.

This is why I’ll never buy a wrapped car, people are shady and hide things
Yea I get where your coming from some unscrupulous car traders do on older cars. My company does spray on wraps for a living mostly on classic and high end cars and the paintwork has to be in really good condition otherwise it can cause problems. Even the sheet wrap guys use us for intricate work on certain parts of a car these days.
"Can matte black wrap hide dents, hail damage and scratches?"
Some cars are wrapped since new and the wrap preserves the paint in completely flawless, as new condition.
@@kwbalance108 Yea but this is a satin wrap and everything still sticks out
@V Z Yes that because it's sprayed wet on wet with HVLP guns and allowed to flow on matte finishes so it's totally smooth. But the new high gloss wraps can be flatted and machine polished just like normal 2K clearcoats that look identical to car paint only better.

@ThePatUltra I was just about to say to the guy yes either your a car guy or your rich😂

@ThePatUltra yes but they are brand new and trade them in 1-2 years later before warranty ends and so they can upgrade to a new car

"You know what would look great? If we made the Headlights look like they were 30years in the sun and yellowed out"
-The previous owner
Matte wraps do look good and especially on a car like that
He said "awful vinyl stickers" in the video name. What was so awful about it tho?
It did its job protecting the car, didn't it?
As someone who has removed loads of decals from vehicles in a bodyshop, definitely use light heat from a heat gun set at 1. Move the gun closer and further away as the vinyl becomes more stringy. You can use the heat gun as a way to soften the glue ensuring that you don't over apply heat and have the vinyl stretch and snap.
That jab at Sam & Rich got me...😂😂🔥
Who needs a step mom, or a fit assistant, when you have... Jared. And a red rubber chicken. Oh well, at least the car looks nice now. 🙂
I had a window tint shop and this tip might help folks. Removing window film from headlights and tail lights is super easy. Remove the lens, spray the film side with some ammonia-based window cleaner, or even better straight ammonia in a bottle. Stick them in a black plastic bag and set them in the sun for a while. The adhesive for almost every window film ever made is degraded significantly and quickly by ammonia. That and a little bit of heat (from the sun) will make it literally peel right off... even the cheapo purple stuff that is super thin and comes off like glitter. Note that this doesn't work if someone tinted the lenses with the spray stuff.
We would also get cars in that needed the tint removed from the windows and we would do a similar thing with ammonia and taping trash bags in the window. Set the car in the sun for an hour or two, and you could literally peel the old tint off, no matter who made it. The adhesive turns into little rubber boogers that ball up, but are no longer sticky. Clean it up well and it's ready to either retint or deliver to the customer.
PS - Ammonia is the reason why you never, ever clean tinted windows with Windex or other ammonia-based window cleaners! It's also why professional tint shops do not use ammonia cleaners on glass for prep.
Awesome info, thank you! I'm filing this away for future use.
This is my new favorite thing. Listening, ripping into a new task, finishing, then finding my sunglasses. Well done, thank you sir!
seeing you upload consistently puts a huge smile on my face thanks for the awesome content tav!
I'd just go straight for the 2018-2020 facelift since you're gonna be painting and paint correcting the rest of the panels. Good video dude!
what impresses me most is you found your best friend over a car show.

The best place to find a best friend or lose it
“ I can’t believe it’s my car” felt that before 🔥
That thing looks amazing with the black wheels. I love this model years bumper design too, probably my favourite car looks wise. Once you get the roof blacked out, the front grills in and the headlights polished up, its going to look stunning. Normally I would do a chrome delete on a white car, but with this you're right. The chrome looks way more mature and sophisticated.
The LS400 in the corner like
.. "I'm a good daily!"
The unwrapping was so satisfying to watch. It felt as if the car is no longer "suffocating" under that wrap.
Another tip for easily removing any type of paint.
Brake fluid.
Stick those intricate wrongly painted chrome pieces in a Ziploc plastic bag or shallow pan and apply the cheapest Dot 3 or 4 you can find.
No heavy stripping work required! Just wait a couple days checking and adjusting to make sure every nook and cranny is submersed for time.
Wash off the destroyed paint lightly using a toothbrush/brush and water.
It's safe for all plastics (many chem strippers will destroy plastics) and chrome plated intricate trim, metal etc. and is relatively non toxic compared to most nasty chemical strippers.
DON'T get it on ANYTHING you do not want not the paint ruined!!
Freddy/Jared, I spent all day doing this very same thing to my car taking off the headlight and tail light tint was a beotch, but a tip, use plastic scrapers and it wont scratch the plastic housing...and I found that having a second person to hold the heat gun about 12" away in front of where u are scraping works best
Hey Marty... Where does the old wrap goes?
"IN THE BIN!"

For the chrome grill, if it's real chrome covered by paint. an easy fix might be soaking it in water with citric acid for an hour then spraying it off. I use citric acid for removing rust and paint, not sure how it would react with chrome but I expect it would work the same and save you A LOT of time.

4:30 It doesn't even take plastic wrap to make those sensors fail. Receently had a rental lose all computer stuff because of a few flattened mosquitos on a radar sensor.
