Tesla HEPA Filter | Keeping Your Cabin Air Clean

  • Inspired by air filtration systems used in hospitals, clean rooms and the aerospace industry, Tesla's HEPA filtration removes 99.97% of airborne particulates, such as smoke, bacteria and pollen. The HEPA filtration system is active whenever climate control is pulling in outside air. For extreme conditions, Bioweapon Defense Mode positively pressurizes your cabin. This prevents pollutants from leaking in as you drive, as all air is filtered through the HEPA and gas media filters. Every new Model Y, S and X comes standard with a HEPA filter and Bioweapon Defense Mode.

@@tiloaloIt’s not about suddenly turning gas car business off. It’s about transitioning asap. About 60% of US population lives in single family houses but the BEV adoption is still only under 3%. There are a lot of states like California where apartments management is lawfully required to allow renters and owners to install chargers at their parking spots. Car makers really don’t have any excuse for not transitioning to BEVs asap. What they chose to do is kick the can down the road so that they can milk their ICE factories longer. Now they are facing existential crisis and imploding because of market forces.
As the adoption grows, the charging infrastructure becomes more and more robust. In many European cities the street-side charging is very common. In major metropolitan areas in California, all malls and major grocery outlets have public charging. A lot of my friends in the Bay Area exclusively charge at their workplaces because it’s free or cheaper.
Most people in China live in apartments but the BEV adoption is 3x better than the US and it’s growing at faster rate. Charging infrastructure is becoming more ubiquitous as the adoption is growing in China.
BMW and other ICE companies could have stated investing heavily in BEVs 5-7 years ago to make it a significant portion of their business by now. They did too little too late and now they just don’t have a way out other than a painful path to irrelevance during this decade.

great work from tesla. One important thing is all these filters, noise cancelling technologies and double pane glass would be of no use, if there are panel gaps and assembly mistakes in the car. Please give an extra check for whenever you do the assembly and before delivery. These are nitty gritty details which an average customer may not be able to identify in the first glance, but as the usage grows, people start noticing these and compliments grow into complaints. just an honest feedback.

This is old news tho. Tesla that roll of the line in China has no panel issue and no paint issue. Fremont also has upgrades to minimize this.
You forget how bad panel gaps are on any other brands. Friend has an audi s4 which falls in same price class as a model 3. It had also panel issue at the trunk and vibration in the rear. His car was in shop for 2 weeks to solve this.
Just people nip pick on tesla since they were on some famous website about it. Did you hear about bmw catching fire and advise people to park outside with some hybrid models because they have no fix. Audi a8 having short circuit risks etc? No since it's not tesla and generate no traffic on their website.

Look at sandy munro’s plaid even that had assembly mistakes. “Fremont has it china factory does not have it.” For customer this one does not matter they bought a tesla and they expect it to be a good built one.

Wild fires in calif was a great reminder in you can see all the smoke outside but you don't smell any of it, so you know its working. On one roadtrip we came onto a boring ice vehicle full engulfed and pouring thick smoke that was low and crossing the road where we were going to drive through. Not wanting all that junk entering into our Model X we turned biodefence on full. We did not smell thing and wondered if maybe this car on fire was only smoke and no smells. When we drove out the other side of the thick cloud I lowered my window just a small bit and WOW, we got the full effect of many different smells from rubber, to gas and oils plus plastics. Much more really. Window was opened a bit for about a second or two and back up it went. About 1 to 2 minutes and the inside of the car was clean again. 👌

While this is certainly a nice thing to have, you really don't need to blow $100K on an X or $50K on a 3 to do approximately the same thing in your car. You can buy generic activated carbon infused HEPA cabin air filters for practically any car now for about $20 and if you just put your car's AC or heat on recirculate it will almost totally purify the air inside within 5 minutes. How do I know for sure - I bought a $30 usb powered laser air quality meter off ebay and tested it myself on a smoky day. The relevant search terms are PM2.5, car, and AQI meter, if you want to get one. They're all based on the Plantower physics package. The PM2.5 value literally falls to zero within a few minutes of having the fan on high and recirculating. I DO NOT have a special car by any means, it's a 15 year old Civic. Try it yourself. The odor removing capability isn't going to be as great as with a separate carbon filter like on the X, but it will work and the main important capability of particle filtration is very good.

And by the way, I have a hand-made forced ventilation of the room at home, which filters out the air through 2 filters:
    1st standard MERV 13
the 2nd one that comes after it is a HEPA filter.

Volvo has been doing HEPA filters and interior air quality sensors for 23 years.(they introduced both in 2000) They are also certified by the asthma and allergy foundation of America unlike Tesla. Volvo also has won the interior air quality award since 2020 and continue to do so.
People have done this same thing on a 12 year old Volvo wagon and it did not let smoke in.

Couldn't figure out why in the thickest of smoke here last summer in Central Oregon i never coukd smell it. Uber driving 10hr a day at times i kept telling ppl(1st extreme smoky day) at least its not a heavy smelly smoke like usual..😂 everyone with the same ya sure reaction. 1 person asked how much do i love the hvac filtration system in here and didn't quite set in yet.. Finally got outta the car after like 7hrs and was choking. Im like ill be just fine not leaving the car again. Couldn't even smell it with people in and out. AMAZING!!

Most other car company's have been offering HEPA before Tesla even came about. Tesla is doing it for money, their filters cost 500$ from Tesla. Volvos filter cost 32$ yet volvos cars still are rated at better interior air quality.

  • @melsyoutube

this needs to be standard across the industry, like airbags and seatbelts. AIR is a necessity, not a luxury. i really hope manufacturers take note and adopt these filters before it's too late (for a lot of areas, it already is).

In this price range it's a standard, it has been the case for 10 years or so, I'm actually surprised that Tesla didn't come with HEPA filter installed.
