This episode has grown on me. Kinda refreshing when i'm binge listening.
same with the claire ones. it’s nice to have that different dynamic
My thoughts exactly :)
Agreed
Yes, about the seventh time around I started to really enjoy it.
First time listening to it properly. Camfield kinda is like that dude from Almost Famous apparently.
Should have done so that every episode without Karl there was the face of the person replacing him photoshopped on top of Karl's face

The sound Ricky makes at 2:22 makes me laugh every time.
Soon as I saw this comment I knew what noise it was haha
omg that was disturbing
i repeat it like 4-5 times every time i listen to this episode
“I’m dressed like an Albanian window cleaner at the moment”
Unpopular opinion: this is a great episode
23:35 - That story is perfect. "Look at that geek." xD
Steve: "If I was the King of China.."
Ricky: "You'd be tall."
"No DJ Camfield. Just go, 'YEAH!'"
"Dog, Mongo & Blitzkrieg" would be a perfect band name.
Ricky is in his element in this episode. One of my faves.
I've been listening to these for years, first time I've heard this one. What a treat.
The phone call with Ross 🤣 that would never happen now
The number of people saying that they don't listen to any eps where Karl isn't there definitely haven't listened to the Claire eps. I get that this ep is very different, and it's probably one of my least favourites, but the Claire episodes are classics and are some of the best eps recorded, especially the one where Karl skived
I agree. I don't like this one as much either, this camfield bloke seems like bit of a bellend
Agree on how good the Claire Sturgess episodes are. She's got a good sense of humor & a great laugh! And Ricky & Steve come prepared and never stop going. Lots of energy and laughs.
Genuinely one of my fave episodes, the monoliths of rock a fantastic segment
"I SNORTED ANTS WITH LEMMY!"
Paul Diano doesn't snort ants, he snorts anteaters!
30:42 Camfields set up for Ricky's quip had me giggling like a little school boy
"Please welcome to the stage: 'Christ on a bike'!" Lol. I've never made it through this one before, but that was one funny bit!
Haha the way he says it
It sounds like Ricky and Steve are yelling out the window through megaphones to Jonathan Ross, and he's standing on the street on the phone.
Saying "play a record" without the usual "you're an idiot" prefix sounds really weird.
Over the years I've come to LOVE the Claire episode, but still can't sit through this one entirely!
Joel Cameron Yeah a it's a bit full on in places. I'm a huge fan of the Claire episodes though... especially the one where Karl is skiving.
Nick Crowther Haha, yeah... Das Lanken Pissen Streak.
Nick Crowther Call your family and the them it's a girl! ...THE NAPPY!
+Nick Crowther "Das Freaken Goggle-eye!" x
I like the Camfield episode because it reminds me of the pre-Karl years, when they would just have a laugh and argue about music, and it was like co-hosts were just entering and leaving the room at random
"I wanna... I wanna start playing things like The Eagles...and Steely Dan, and Bruce Hornsby and the Range, truth be known!"
"Chairman? Chairwoman, don't be sexist."
35:19 - I dont know why but I randomly said "ohhh look at you " and 'cheeky!' like Gervais does.... then realised someone was behind me . I'm pretty sure that lil fella thinks I'm gay lil fella
I’ve always thought “LADIES AND GENTLEMEN PLEASE WELCOME TO THE STAGE.. IMPALED ANGEL!”
I skipped the "no Karl" shows the first time around... but now I love them. Just because they remind me how great he is :)
same! no karl no thanks but I'll give them a go now.
I like them, because Christ, his whinging does get on my nerves after a while. It's a nice little break and quite refreshing to have the show focus more on Ricky and Steve occasionally. Karl, while obviously the star of the show, is a bit of a broken record at times.
@@kevinflemming5928 👌
I initially thought the same as everyone else but it really is a nice change. (Claire is better than this guy though)
Ricky and Steve are great lets not forget.
I'm having a nightmare eating yogurt
Thanks for these.
Ryan Chidester No problem at all.
+Man Moth Mothman, why does this episode not have a title?
+stoox006 May I suggest Racist FM
2:24 “This is Isis!”
“Isis doing their version of merry Christmas everyone”
15:15 I think the fish was off I'm going buzurk 😂
It's wild to hear Camfield as a host on my local radio station in 2023 here in Seattle. I only ever knew him from this show from ages ago.
Same here in Australia. Before he passed away Johno Coleman moved here and was on our radios
@@Bevis97 The world is a real big, small place.
That's really cool
@@ideamachine39 Yeah, isn't it? What are the odds.
Karl is the best, but Steve is so funny in the episodes without Karl?! Nice episode :D
This was actually quite good.
They're fine on their own. I like it.
Unpopular opinion but I think this strangely might be favourite episode, Steve and Ricky are so good in it
Camfield is a surprisingly good producer/co-host. Ricky and Steve really seem to respect him and don't mind when he speaks up. They work as a great team. Boring episode, but entertaining and well-done, nonetheless. Claire is great and funnier, but she's not always on the same wavelength as them. This is a smooth non-Karl episode.
Since I posted this over a year ago, this episode has become one of my favorite, if not my favorite, episodes of all time. I often even go out of order to listen to this one, because I can't wait three series to get to it. Ricky and Steve just nail it and with Camfield, this episode is just so fun to listen to.
I agree, Camfield's sound. He gets in on the banter but it doesn't feel intrusive. I love how dry he is because Ricky won't let him do DJ Camfield
@@HeatyFrog I'm really surprised how much they let him speak up. They, to my disappointment, often dismiss and shut down Claire when she tries to speak up. One of the reasons this is one of my favorite episodes is how different it is from every other episode. They're actually funny with Claire, but they don't even try with Camfield. Reminds me much of Series 0. Three blokes having a chat, where one of them isn't a bald manc twat. Just a rubbish and shoddy episode that only lasts 45 minutes. Not particularly funny or interesting. Just perfect conversation. I can't be alone feeling this way.
@@justinkline8437 I'm still trying to process how something can be boring but interesting at the same time XD
You the man, moth!
37:54 The way Ricky's voice echoes in the conversation with Jonathan Ross is hilarious but somewhat unsettling
The reason you have some yoghurt after a bender is because you chew your face off on drugs so afterwards it's cool and soothing and is easy to eat lol
The truth....Ricky Gevias as a serious actor would nail it
I love the way Ricky says ritual
How is Ricky so happy??
The shows without Karl are actually very good from the point of Steve and Ricky being able to go full flow.
Camfield.
Very much the Meg Griffin in these here parts....
I think "smelly eyebrows" woman is the Meg Griffin of the show.
@@MisterM2402 Definitely...i cringed so hard listening to her i had to pause the video multiple times & got a back spasm
People are WAY too hard on this episode. It's delightful!
Probably just winging Mancs.
It's Deathlehem.
Steve actually comes up with that name in series one. Or at least he mishears something that Ricky said so he goes "Deathlehem?"
It's actually Karl who does that. He's reading out the K Fest line-up and can't pronounce Behemoth, saying 'Bethlehem?' instead.
Sturgess > Camfield
oh lol this came out on my 6th birthday
Looks like Lemmy - Smells like Gervais!!
Yo Ricky is the goat
Hate this episode, can't believe so many people say it's one of their favourites
Mad innit.
One of the best episodes ever made.
"100 million little gay Chinese fellas" could've been the title I think.
104.9 Racist FM xD
Possible titles: Wossy phoner, Brain Hammer, or Deathlehem.
100 million little gay chineese fellas
Not very hairy tho, cuz the thing is usually Chinese people aren't that hairy..
Fill it with ice and put some beer in that. Cos none of my friends washes their arse.
34:00 Rob her plant...
look out for anyone jumping...
Humanity Manatee is genius.
8:29 zinger from the prince of rock
I don't mind Camfield, but this is one of the least interesting episodes. At least Ricky and Steve are entertaining in the Sturgess episodes. Very few highlights in this one.
Yeah, I noticed they are completely different in this (even without Karl). Probably showing-off a little bit with Claire lol.
The problem I have is that Gervais spends the entire time trying to prove his rock credentials, which gets increasingly annoying and embarrassing.
completely disagree
It never takes long for them to start talking about Karl or reminiscing on things he’s said on these episodes where someone’s filling in for him. They really don’t have much without him.
That's definitely true! The show would not be anywhere near as beloved all these years later without Karl.
Metal Christmas
Oh, 4 in the morning!?
I imagined Camfield to look like one of the likeable headbangers that hangs out with Wayne and Garth in the Waynes World movies.
I SNORTED ANTS WITH LEMMY!!!
Not a bad episode
Strange the different directions people go. Canfield is now a DJ in Denver
I was Googling to find out if he ever made it to Magic or BBC2. Guess Ricky and Steve didn’t take him along like they promised! Sure he’s doing well though, like Sturgess
Just as enjoyable as any Karl episode
Had to google Camfield, I remember him around this era - whatever happened to him?
Steve's faux ignorance on the 'king of China' REALLY grates me
Hope you're ok 👍
Foreshadowing the golden gloves eh?
I can't believe that there was no mention of any thrash or death metal band in this conversation. Napalm Death, Deicide, Godflesh, Rigor Mortis, and hundreds more....
Yeah, all shite. Bands with names like 'Anal Cunt' are to be dismissed almost as quickly as pop music. x
that's because trash and death metal bands are exclusively known to fans. Outside of that particular bubble they might as well not exist.
Which is partly why you can't believe it, because you are INSIDE the bubble. Most niche hobbies seem to have that fallacy; people inside expect people on the outside to know just as many details as they do.
"What did you think of the new Zombified Preachers of Gore album? Shouldn't the second solo on the third song start with a Cflat diminished chord?" "Dude, I don't even listen to metal".
It's great if YOU like em (I listen to metal as well), but the general public will NEVER encounter any on their own.
18:40
They actually came up with deathlihem in a previous show
4:28
Wow, first time in about 5 years I bother listen to an episode without Karl
Not bad, not bad
EDIT:
wtf Jonathan Ross' feedback for a minute woulda never been allowed if Pilkers was on
Del Cortehh the Claire ones are mych funnier fyi
Pilkboy is a consumate professional.
Claire is great, even though she really doesn't speak much herself. Somehow her presence changes the dynamic in a good way. Camfield is alright, but not interesting to me. The pillars of rock stuff, I'm just not into music in that particular way, but I can see how it can be interesting to people who DO enjoy discussing it like that. Jonathan Ross is just straight up annoying to me in most XFM shows. I get why Ricky likes him, but we don't need two Ricky's on the show amplifying eachother in a contest of "mommy, look what I am brave enough to say in public".
Together they're either the biggest benders in London, or just shooting for pure shock value. And that just isn't skill OR comedy to me.
please welcome to the stage CHRIST ON A BIKE

This is the one and only episode I never listen to, the Claire ones are great but this one I can’t stand.
Who is tommy Vance lol
this is 104.9 racist fm
PLAY A RECORD
feeder. twaddle
I hope that it will take a while for them to come back around! (;
Suspicion confirmed: i only listen for KP
Bidets are a waste of time & money.
No Karl in this...........
luuke furtado Sherlock..
The Anti-Theist You sir are kind with your compliments....
luuke furtado Well.
The lead singer of the mega band should obviously be between Jim Morrison, Freddie Mercury, & Jimi Hendrix.
skip...
Love Karl, love that Steve and Ricky step up to make Claire laugh, but this episode just does nothing for me. Camfield is boring, the only good thing is googling him and seeing he's an absolute dweeb.
LOL I googled him as well...what a rocker he is lol
@smalla weyhey11 agreed
Mathematicians could spend millennia dividing and dividing the fraction of a fraction of a fraction of second that it takes me to click off of a xfm episode without Karl
well that's just stupid, the Claire episodes are funny and you're really missing out
Do all you brits pronounce bidet like rick and steve? Sounds so bizarre
Pretty much I'm afraid :p
Bidet is a bizzare word, touché and what a cliché. So much French
Any pronunciation you're not used to will sound bizarre the first time you hear it.
How is it meant to be pronounced?
Americans say bid-day, people in the UK say bee-day
"but no karl pilkingt---" skip
