In this video I (a retired Mega Man 1 Speedrunner) take a look at the Mega Man 1 TAS! I try my best to explain some of the glitches going on and how they aren't possible by humans but this run is so bafflingly fast that it's almost impossible to say anything. But I hope you enjoy this video either way :)

Wily forgot to account for the fourth "sibling" robot, GLITCH MAN.
This is where this series all began. It was just a happy little accident too because he had no plans to make this a series but people loved it so much he did the entire series and is currently doing the X series (He just finished any percent X2 as of this writing)

Seems like Rockman 1 engine is unstable with high enemy count.
Aren't most games unstable with a high sprite/object count?
Nes was unstable with more than 6-8 sprites I think.
I have no ideas what sprite count and lag has to do with overflows that are connected to win conditions tho. 🤷♂️
The early cartridge expansion technology used by Mega Man has a flaw where the incorrect ROM bank may be chosen when heavy spite calculations are happening at a particular time. In this TAS, the enemies are used to create the memory values (clear stage) that a lookup function references when the wrong ROM bank is (forcefully) selected.
The original release of Castlevania, which was also used in the Anniversary Collection, has similar issues that occasionally crash the game. If you tried exploiting this condition in a human run of Mega Man you'd also likely crash the game due to memory being overwritten effectively randomly.
There used to be a speedrun of some game on NES where they put the system on a hotplate. The heat induced some kind of error or glitch and I just can't remember it now for the life of me.

so you pick up the ammo so you get more magnet beam so you can do more zips.
Also I've done the ice man glitch, it's called "ACE" but getting the magnet beam is idk how to do that. When you get "ACE" you actually force the credits, and that's a speed run category.
And that's how Glitchy Man used his forbidden powers to save the world.

Is it finishing the level because all the enemies being killed makes them drop items with points and all added up is the same as the end of the level , so maybe the game thinks you’ve beaten the boss ?

Is this an all bosses category TAS? Because I believe on ice-man you could even credits warp with the lagg bug.
Yea, from a look, said bug seems to be ACE caused by improper bounding of objects/sprites, so it's probably just a different category using ACE for a different purpose (namely unlocking Magnet Beam and such).
@@therealinferno161 The problem is actually with the particular cartridge technology itself that Mega Man uses, though it can be fairly easily worked around once one realizes what the hardware problems are. As for what's happening, it's not really ACE since no arbitrary code is being executed, but the effect is much the same. The wrong ROM bank is selected and the sprites' positions become data that is in the right places for in-game lookup functions to call things like "clear stage" and "get magnet beam". There is also "end game", used in another TAS category (that ends very quickly).
@@dycedargselderbrother5353 Ah, I see. Thanks for the elaboration. Was making a guess given that it requires a large amount of sprites on-screen at once, makes sense that it's the bank switching tech that's to blame.
