  • Ben Kentish and Lewis Goodall debate with their calls over whether Keir Starmer should have accepted Natalie Elphicke into the Labour Party following allegations that Natalie Elphicke 'lobbied Justice Secretary over sex offender ex-husband's trial'.
1:17 - Ben Kentish says that ‘if this was a sitting Tory MP rather than a new Labour MP, this would be the biggest scandal since Watergate’.
3:43 - Caller Josh says that Keir Starmer allowing Natalie Elphicke into his party ‘was straight out the Donald Trump playbook’ and equates Keir Starmer with Trump for this ‘brilliant move’.
8:38 - “You’re getting so angry and worked up about Starmer when he probably didn’t even know about this”, caller Robert tells Ben Kentish.
14:09 - Caller Lee tells Lewis Goodall: “I think you and the commentators are missing the play here, I think it’s absolute genius from Starmer".
Labour defector Natalie Elphicke has denied claims that she tried to lobby Robert Buckland, then Lord Chancellor, over the trial of her sex offender ex-husband Charlie Elphicke.

It's telling all the Tory voters that there's a place for them voting for Labour, as Elphicke is not standing in the General election and her only role will be to do with strategy on housing, possibly immigration. If they had refused to have her, the Tory press (which is 90% of all UK press) would be blathering on about how Labour are _"soft on immigration"._ The only _raison d'etre"_ of any Opposition is to throw the Tories out, by whatever legal means necessary.

Though regardless, if she did (or it was leaked), I think it's rather obvious that the reaction would be "obviously they won't have her - she's a right wing Tory".
It seems equally ridiculous to suggest that the Tory press will now stop claiming that Labour are "soft on immigration" because they've temporarily admitted a Tory MP who they are going to ditch at the next election, who may or may not try and have an influence on immigration policy behind the scenes.

All this furore seems to have achieved is that even moderates in the LP are wondering what the difference is between the two major political parties.
