"At no point do I wear a side arm." - Navy Dentist in video
Me, a navy dentist, watching this video as I am completing a 24-hour watch duty on base with a 9mm holstered on my thigh.

On base duty you carried ? Really ?! What base was it. I guess things have changed a lot because duty for me was always taking care of servicemen and women after hours for dental ERs not gaurding the base with a weapon !!! I served as a dental technician and also went FMF with the marines. The dental officer and myself both carried while in FMF. The only thing we ever did for duty on a base was dental work !!! The exception being FMF with marines.

@@editingreality4779 Yes. I carried while completing the FMF 24-hour OOD duty. All greenside naval dentists did.

I’m a prior FMF Corpsman and I’m starting dental school, how hard is it for dentists to be FMF? What would your duties be like then? I suppose no more hikes?

Not to detract from any of the great aspects of being a dentist in the Navy, but the opening statement is incredibly misleading and outright false.
Either this was scripted or the initial speaker has limited experience in the Navy. If you are assigned with the Marines (green side), you will very likely carry a side arm at some point while on duty. Furthermore, almost any assignment that's operational, be it with Marines, Seabees, or on a ship, you will learn and train with many very military type duties. Remember, you are a Naval Officer, not just a dentist.
