Inside the Buddhist nunnery tearing down gender stereotypes in Nepal | 101 East Documentary

  • On a hill overlooking Nepal’s capital Kathmandu, rows of women launch shoulder-high kicks in unison, calling out as they strike through the brisk morning air.
Known as the Kung Fu Nuns, they believe martial arts are a form of meditation which prepares them for life’s challenges.
Behind them lies their home, a Buddhist monastery where about 300 nuns live.
They also serve their community, helping vulnerable women, visiting orphanages, picking up rubbish, repairing homes and spreading a message of environmental protection.
With intimate access to their daily lives, 101 East meets the Kung Fu Nuns of Kathmandu.

I'm not against it as they belong to the drukpa order of buddhism originated from tibet (according to the video itself), but I'd like to humbly request the nuns of the White monastery to also put a Nepali flag there (if there is already one and is not shown in the video, then i'd like to say sorry and also say thankyou for doing so). If the nuns decide to leave monasteries at any time in their life. They can leave. The reason they learn Tibetan language is because 2000 volumes of Buddhist text is written in Tibetan language that why it’s easier if they know Tibetan language to understand the Buddha’s teaching. Thousands of pupils from America, Europe Africa, Korea, south east Asia, India, Mongolia, Africa take Tibetan classes voluntarily so that they can learn Buddhism more thoroughly. 🙏🏽💐🙏🏽 moreover, don’t worry too much abt anything because as per Buddhism, impermeable is the ultimate reality. Don’t cling too much to anything cuz Buddha said attachment is the root cause of suffering,
      🙏🏽💐🙏🏽🙏🏽

Exploiting???? These monasteries are shelters for many of these Nepali children who come from broken homes, impoverished homes. Many cases where father is a useless fellow on drugs or alcohol and mother is uneducated and can’t support the family. Some children of those who go to Middle East countries to work as nannies, guards, dishwasher etc and leave their kids to the care of the monasteries… so the monasteries are safe havens for them.
