  • Distant weather warnings are now full-on alerts in Bangladesh as it faces the brutal effect of climate change.
Bangladesh is a country severely affected by man-made climate change. Located at the foot of the Himalayas and facing an open delta, it is increasingly battered by devastating typhoons and severe flooding.
Life Before Land explores how this Southeast Asian nation has developed sophisticated storm prediction systems and a shelter network that saves thousands of lives from frequent typhoons. Still, the land is being swallowed up by ever-rising water levels. Entire communities are disappearing, leaving behind staggering numbers of climate migrants. Left homeless and without any means of earning a living, millions have been forced to resettle in the slums of Dhaka, the nation’s capital.

But I feel shocked when some so called vlogger and youtuber make videos of Bangladesh and say the country is developing by seeing some eye-catching buildings and corrupted skyscrapers. I believe this is the real face of Bangladesh. Thank you for Al Jazeera for giving such effort to make this video.

The real job of any neutral media is to report the truth from all sides, but Al Jazeera does not. Al Jazeera is busy spreading as much negative news as possible against the current government of Bangladesh, their main objective is to help the fundamentalist cycle in Bangladesh. The whole world knows that there are many problems in Bangladesh as well as there have been many improvements. If not, thousands of young people would not have gone to the concert by buying a ticket of 5 thousand takas to listen to the music of Pakistani Atif Aslam. Eileen's Punjabi shop used to sell hundreds of Punjabis worth 10/20 thousand taka. Mullah Maulvira paid lakhs of rupees and did not get a chance to ride in a helicopter to perform waj.

I don't expect Al Jazeera to report positively on current Bangladesh. If there was an Islamic fundamentalist government instead of the Awami League government, they would have made and reported the opposite story of improvement. However, despite the huge pressure of 180 million people in a small country of only 55 thousand square miles, Bangladesh is in the top 10 in many agricultural products. Bangladesh has achieved a lot of progress in the last 15 years after leaving the world champion of corruption during the BNP Jamaat period. Yes a large uneducated group is a big challenge for us. Climate disaster, carelessness of people, corruption are still there in the society. But those who belittle their own country to outsiders are traitors and unscrupulous. The Bangladesh government did not say about the economic development of Bangladesh in its own words, these are the words of the World Bank, ADB, IMF.

Al Jazeera is never an honest media. They report on why there is no democracy in countries like Bangladesh but not on why there is no democracy in their own country Qatar. It was Al Jazeera who wanted to embarrass the Bangladesh government by showing the graves of the dead in Rana Plaza and creating the story of Hefazet Islam's fictitious corpses. This Al Jazeera has tried to embarrass the current government of Bangladesh by creating various stories about an army chief of Bangladesh and his family. They create news on the agenda of radical Islamists.

My friend, you have missed the pith of this docu. It's not about slandering Bangladesh but about the future Bangladesh is facing soon enough because of climate change. It's about how nearly 2 million people will be displaced because of this inevitable changes in geography and livelihood. It shows that we already have a huge climate migrants living in Dhaka city in inhumane situations. This docu shows that Bangladesh have done monumental improvement in terms of disaster preparedness and forecasting which could contribute as a source of knowledge and understanding for the rest of the world. But we need to understand fully the threat looming over us caused by climate change. Overlooking these and only indulging, boasting in the advancements we have made so far cannot we face the climate induced challenges. We need to be aware of the actual degree of the problem. This docu is all about this.

Most People in the US do not know or do not care about what’s going on in Bangladesh and if they did would probably blame them for their plight. And how hard they work for so little that they have. Stuff like this helps keep me grounded as to how fortunate I really am as a regular working stiff in the United States

The factory with the ladies sewing, reminded me of when i was young. Exact same sort of tin shed. Hot temps around 35 celcius in summer most days. Women in rows just the same. King Gee shorts etc made there. Now many of our clothes are made in Banga's (Bandgladesh). At Wulkaraka, Ipswich, Qld, Australia. About 1970. The rubbish dump was at the end of the street and the toilet was a tin can in a little wood hut outside. No hot water. 50 years and massive change since then. We have air con now and so many cars and we all have a tv now. I could go on and on. I pray these people get a much better standard of living and security for their future (as much as possible on this planet).

There's a huge difference between rich and poor people. Most of the property is almost 80% consumed by 15% corrupted people who are close to the power.Other general people are struggling with their minimum lives, and that's the reality of Bangladesh. The situation of climate change is the extra headache of the country's unfortunate people!!

We are not a piece of gold in the world. We assume we are. But, the truth is nobody outside of BD thinks BD is a gem/gold. We are a poor country trying to keep or uphold our head high. Sadly, not a single leader or Allah can help us if WE are not aware of the future we are heading towards. We need educated politicians who will champion the idea of climate resilience and lead civil movements to make people aware of the hazards and to build communal programs to tackle these.
