Cycling Japan: The Kii Peninsula and Japanese Alps // World Bicycle Touring Episode 44

  • We arrived by ferry in Wakayama and followed the Pacific Coast Cycling Road around the Kii Peninsula before heading inland across the Japanese Alps. This section had a wonderful mix of gorgeous coastal scenery, charming seaside towns, and impressive mountains. Much of this route was planned with minimal research (as usual) and we were left in awe of Japan's natural beauty and the many historic sites to explore along the way.

    Great content, we have cycled many times in Japan and will go back in November. The Kii peninsula seems beautiful!

      The tunnels are mandatory, although you could take a paved road through the same area but it would be quite a different experience, there isn't a road that runs parallel to the off-road route that we know of.

    Please note, the more lovely videos like this you show, the better chance I have of making my wife do a bike tour ! So far I think I can make her do a Singapore trip to kick off, but of course I need to do more and more !

    Whoopiiiiiii, first to comment ;-) What a scenic ride. Maybe I'll fly out there when I finish building up my Surly Preamble road bike--it'll be a lot lighter than my current hybrid. And BTW, your world tour map on your home web page, . . . that is something to remember and look back on.

      I would second that. How much did you roughly spend per month?

    • @RollingExistence
      @RollingExistence  Před 7 měsíci +3

      Japan in very affordable, we found it pretty easy to stick to our budget of $30 per person per day and often were spending less than that. There are incredible budget options for food and it's pretty easy to wild camp. We occasionally found good deals on hotels too

    You guys seem not to have an outro on the videos. I am always a little confused when they suddenly stop.

    • @RollingExistence
      @RollingExistence  Před 15 dny

      We don't really plan out where are videos are going to begin and end. I guess the idea is that the next one just picks up right where the last one ends, so all 48 episodes are kinda just one long continuous video. Maybe at some point we'll get a little more intentional, but when we were on the road for years we kind of just filmed when the whim hit us and didn't try to think about video structure very much.

    Where did you guys get the money to start these trips?

    • @parsaerfani7973
      @parsaerfani7973 Před 6 měsíci

      The biggest cost is the equipment, which will run you around 5000$.
      After that your biggest cost are plane tickets. Housing and food can be reduced a lot if you camp (like they do) and if you cook your own stuff.

    • @tonydejesus2134
      @tonydejesus2134 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@parsaerfani7973this doesn't actually answer the question. You can minimize expenses, but it's still not free.

    • @kenyates7269
      @kenyates7269 Před 4 měsíci

      @@tonydejesus2134some people like myself, work seasonally save enoughb money and hit the roads between work seasons. I would say you should probably save about 10-15k if you want to comfortably spend 3-5 months moving around. You could spend only 1/3 of your budget if you are resourceful, but that comes with experience.
