I think you should make the Reapers the *Vindicare assassin*. Would definitely fit inline and i think theres an Exodus rilfe mod as well. I made an entire warhammer thing too a few years ago. I took the.txt. file and custom made everything 40K, even changed textures and sounds of the weapons.
I'd suggest Callidus assassins for the the reapers. since their shtick is covert ops/long term infiltrations it kinda makes sense that there'd be some on this planet before your lads showed up to liberate the planet from the Tau. If not Callidus, then my next pick would probably be Vindicare assassins like others have suggested.
You should try Crown Wars: The Black Prince, I tried the demo and it's really cool, it's like XCOM but in a medieval setting with magic and stuff. I would love to see you play it :)
Same feeling! Need to adjust the difficulty! Xcom 2 is vell known for its difficulty, and here we have soldiers with more hp and damage than compare to the enemy! In lwotc, nearly each mission you losing a soldier or two, death or gravely injured, and trying to take them out of the battlefield and on a mission you are constantly using heal!
And i say its difficulty settings that gives you a ton of free materials + 11 scientist on May, since 2 months 😮 thats no sense, since a hardcore player, who havent lost a single mission got 11 of them only after a year in game! Surreal got a weapon of 7-12 damage, more hp, a decent armor vs 3-3, 3-4 weapons of enemy, which also have less accuracy, hp, armor! I also curious did he turned on enemy upgrades that gives + stats to his soldiers? In any case warhammer 40k is all about overcoming! Must change some settings to get more tough enemies or reduce effectiveness of his own soldiers. The real challenge and interest to the xcom2 lwotc is what you are affraid to send a team on mission without a medic - even with him you may loose an entire team on common mission, not to mention the bases or something else complicated initially

The closest thing to a "Reaper" of XCOM 2 (all be it with less tech) would be the "Vindicator Assassins, or "Raven Guard Space Marines"
