In honor of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week coming up, this SMFR Unscripted episode features the stories of our MetCom dispatchers and the hard work they put in each day.
That can be a very stressful job with various ups and downs. Multitasking is an absolutely essential skill, with triage over the phone to provide the best care possible over a phone. They are a support person for someone who is going through a traumatic event in their life, they are literally the lifeline for those in the community. Being able to flex and deal with a dynamic situation as it develops. Just a lot of responsibility because if they don't get it right people, including firefighters could die. SMFR has some of the best dispatchers. Great video of behind-the-scenes heroes at work.
This is a place I would have loved to work at and for! I started dispatching (Public Safety) fulltime in 1988 and left in 2015. I have a background in working as both an FF and a police officer. I still love dispatching the best because we are involved, for the most part, from the start to the end of any incident. I would have moved the 1,000 miles to work for a center like this one. I like the channel so I subscribed.
Happy NTW from a dispatcher in Ohio!! Great video, and thanks for all you guys do. I'd love to see a video on your guys' IDT, I'm currently working on developing the procedures to follow for a future team in our agency!
Great video showcasing dispatchers and their perspective of their profession along with how and why they are dispatchers 😀😎 💞 I how they are one big family as much as firefighters are 👏👏 awesome and informative
being a firefighter looks like a lot of fucking fun. nowhere near as much adrenaline but shit crawling through burning buildings full of fire hacking at doors and pulling people out, that's something I could get into
I agree with Peter in thinking that PIO Connor might get some interesting experiences on a ride along 😃 She def could video record her time on the ride along and thereby share her experiences with us 😃
South Metro Fire Rescue PIO okay thank you I wasn’t sure since you already put 2 videos up this week and it’s also lovely to see Conner working on her own series for the recruit training
South Metro is a consolidated fire department that is made up of Parker Fire Department, Littleton Fire Department, Cunningham Fire District.... These are all in the Denver metro area, just south of Denver Colorado..... Hopefully that helps.... Metcom is the dispatch center than takes care of South Metro Fire along with several other smaller agencies of the front range of Denver
Thank you for all you guys do, Im a former 9-1-1 Dispatcher for over 10 years here in Florida and loved going to work everyday!
Great video team! Excellent highlight of the different, and important roles present for South Metro!

My wife is a 911 supervisor in Portsmouth, VA.
Great video information. Thank you all!
Thanks for this great vid!!!
When she mentioned deputy Parrish that hit me in the feels
They've gotta do more of these
Dispatchers are the lifeline between public and firefighters!!!

Awesome Video. Since Connor Is New To The Fire Side. I'd Like To See Her Ride With Some Of Your Busier Units and Get Her Take On Things.
Peter Lokey you do realise that Conner isn’t actually a firefighter she is just a PIO officer
@@jamesevans938 I'm very aware of that. That's why i think it would be both educational for her and make a good video for us.

The sand box is a super cool idea
24-hour dispatcher shifts is really interesting
Love how dispatch has a fire alarm set... do alarms go to the dispatch or a fire station? Does it depend?
What are the Red lights above the dispatcher's station for? Something to do with call types or the time limits to answer?
The adrenaline surge is real. Believe me.
I'm going to ask for a sandbox for TC Week this year. I have enough pens and lanyards.
@South Metro Fire Rescue PIO ~ Will you guys be dropping another Unscripted Video? If so, when?
Police and fire dispatchers...sometimes don't get enough credit.
are you guys going to upload a new unscripted soon?
Should have also showed us how to works better
Is there also gonna be a vlog this week
South Metro Fire Rescue PIO okay thank you I wasn’t sure since you already put 2 videos up this week and it’s also lovely to see Conner working on her own series for the recruit training
