Great video... Why did you stop at 40X? How good is this at 400X and 1,000X? Danke Shoen.
Could you do a stereo vs compound microscope video? I want a microscope, but can only get one, but I can't decide between the two. I like photography, so I don't think the stereo one would even work, right?
Hello by the way those colour lenses do work to help make the cells stand out i find red best blue next to red
Which one modle is this one
Just needed to check dogs skin for bacteria. Easy to use than going to work and way cheaper than the bill from the vet when in doubt.
This is a really underrated channel keep it up man!
So glad you didnt name the video "$80 microscope vs $3000 microscope"
It’s only 70 bucks now
Why? its such a clickable title :D
If that’s what you get in terms of views for $80 when compared to the $3000 then that’s fantastic, obviously the definition, detail and colour in the high end scope is much higher than the $80 one but it’s still amazing for the price
I agree, he got 143k views with this $80 microscope, not bad... not bad at all!
22:47 the way he put out the eyepiece @.@ so swag!
Also visit my other channel for much microscope buying advice: czcams.com/users/microbehunter-microscopy
I purchased this microscope before watching this. The phone handler is supposed to be screwed tightly on the eyepiece.
I’m honestly happy to find you and am always gonna watch these videos because it’s just really interesting but I see your gonna get a lot more popular and just know that your awesome and deserving of millions of subscribers
Thank you for taking the time to do a great thorough walk through review. MUCH appreciated!
Happy to find this video. Creator's genuineness to help others find a good (+ cheap and fun) learning microscope is so visible. Getting into microscopy now. Wish me luck and unbroken slides :)
In Astronomy and film W&B photography those color filters are used to change the color rendition, increasing contrast on certain features (Jupiter bands, mars ice caps, sky contrast, etc) depending of their colors. Try placing a specimen with distinct color features and use different filters to see if they pop-up with certain filtered light.
Also, I discovered this channel yesterday and love it!
They also use It in other kind of photograpy, including digital
Edit: grammar
Excellent video for those hat starting out. Would you consider discussing the use of vintage microscopes in another video? They are another affordable way to get involved with microscopy and with their own particular pros and cons.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with this cheaper microscope. Totally agree with your comment about the bigger microscopes appearing intimidating, etc.
Great video, thank you so much ! We just got microscope like that and your video explained all the preparation work and how to use it. Thank you !!!
Thank you for this helpful review 😊
I'm an amateur who enjoys observing pond water microbes, etc. Where is a good source of identification information on most pond water inhabitants. Some things are easily identified, but others are not. Thanks for any advice on this topic. I really enjoy your videos!
Very good review. Answered all my questions. Thank you
I just got this for my home collection. Does the job. Thanks!
Thank you for all your help. Great videos.
Fantastic video as always, your channel is a blessing for newbie microscopist like me. I look forward to viewing your future videos with this microscope.
Both of us have the moon as our profile picture lol
If you're viewing his videos with a microscope, you'll only see individual pixels
Wow the option to connect phone camera is great. 😊 Impressive images for reasonable price. Thanks for this review.
Great review! Ordered this for my children as a Christmas present.
This was so informative thank you! I m homeschooling and my sister bought this for my daughter. I think she will like it.
I had just ordered the AMScope for kids (25.22) and found this site. After watching this video I bought this scope for 40.95 on ebay (24.50+16.45 shipping). There is NO comparison between the two. The AMScope is about 1/3 the size of the TELMU. With 3 boys plus myself both will get a lot of use in the years to come. You will have no buyers remorse with this entry level microscope. Watch the review several times and you will see what you get. It is worth the 80 or 90 dollars for this scope (even though I paid less) if you work at it you may even get it cheaper . Just noticed the Amazon link above has it listed for $79.99 .Can't wait for more videos with this microscope. Thanks for a great video!
Thank you for this video !
Hi. Thanks for this review!
Wonderful, entertaining and thorough review. Excellent. Subscribed.
Great video! Really enjoyed it.
Each day i learn some more keep it up bud
outstanding video, because of this I will buy one. Thanks
Great video just getting into this field of study thank you so much for the content and review my friend !!!
you're the most informative channel
Thanks because you have help me with me for microscopy and hope you make more videos like twice a week.
Greetings from Costa Rica
Thanks so much for all the information/ details provided.
Thank you for this great video!
you did a great job, you help me out a lot
Very informative thank you
Thanks, this will probably be my re-entry to microscopy at home. In my former job I had a big budget but now a tiny one.
it directly runs LED with a pod as adjustable resistor you can replace battery with lithium ion rechargable and add a small connector or just use some rc toy battery with those connectors.
@A O ANY LITHIUM CELL runs at 3V-4.3V. They are SOLD AS 3.6V. White/blue leds directly on battery can run fine (3-4V) without any resistor. That is why they simply put 3xAA battery slots (1.5x3=4.5V ) and they just put variable resistor so you can dim it. Note that if you actually use rechargable batteries such as ni-mh it is actually 1.2x3 or 1.3x3 =3.6 or 3.9V again. Even a phone battery would work. More importantly you will need charge controller for li-ion batteries something like this would work ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1LKUYniMnBKNjSZFCq6x0KFXaP/1PCS-Micro-USB-5V-1A-18650-Lithium-Battery-Charger-Module-Charging-Board-With-Protection.jpg
or simply ad a SM connector and use such adapter i.ebayimg.com/images/g/gnkAAOSwolpb3Cu1/s-l640.jpg
that's all.
Keep going very informative
the color filters could actually be useful for getting more detail of different types of micro organisms in different liquid etc.
Thanks man
This video is awesome, you are great, man!
.......Very good review!!!! Thank you!!! For my own interests, I think that I will be looking to buy a stereo microscope, and a swing arm mount, for doing metal engraving, and other "close up" viewing of small tool bits, knife blades, etc. Good to know that this equipment is available, in the marketplace.
amazing video!!
I bought it from your channel.
I am satisfied with this because i am an amateur and this is ok for me .
This is good.
Thanks a lot.
I like the camera attachment.
Great Video Just found it! I just bought this microscope. Haven't used it. But from reviews it seemed one of the best of the lower price scopes.
Bought this TELMU XSP-75 for 50$ and think its a good value as well, The optics don't feel amazing but seems like i can see things fairly clearly. I quickly found my self needing more to use it properly. Main thing is a mechanical stage which i found 'Amscope MS90' for 24$ on amazon fits the stage. After installing i was able to view slides properly but started to see the eye strain issue even more along with the need for a stable base and comfortable viewing position. Now i need to find a decent microscope camera so i can view on a computer screen to fix both those issues
thank u that's exactly what i was looking for !
Hello! Thank you very much for the content! Your field of science is vety fascinating, and I was curious if you could obtain a sample of lung tissue to view under the microscope. I feel that the alveoli would be interesting to see under magnification.
I just bought one thx. My best regards.
9:30 This confused me too. After giving it some thought, I concluded that perhaps it could be useful for increasing the contrast of certain things or something.
I just picked this microscope up for $30CAD new in box on marketplace. I was hoping to get something a little better but this thing is actually excellent for the price. I am still hoping to come across something a bit better for a reasonable price but this will get me buy for now. I needed something to find out what i have going on in my reef tank. I figured i had dinoflagellates but i needed to find out exactly which one so i know how to treat it. Microscopy is very nead and interesting. Im looking forward to learning a lot from your channel. Thanks for making these awesome videos.
Such a cool channel
Awesome I bought this microscope
Hi! I´m new to microscoping and think I will buy my first real one now when I started to make videos again, still a newbe but love to see beyond the eyes capacity. Thinking about a Swift 380T and then use my wife´s camera a Sony A5 something. Love this compare video.
I bought this microscope after watching this review and I am very pleased. I got it to explore the world with my 4 year old. Thank you. You did mention that the box warned that children should not use the device because of "sharp edges," and you couldn't find any sharp edges. It is true that the microscope has smooth, rounded edges BUT mine came with prepared slides that were wickedly sharp. The slides had bug legs and onion skins, etc... on glass that was sharp as razors. I put them away and ordered additional slides that were much safer. Just thought I would mention that. I love your videos. Thanks again.
Thank you for the info. I have already tried to smoothen the edges of some slides with very fine sand paper. Takes patience, but it possible of one is careful.
Microscopy, and to a lesser extent astronomy, became fun for me later in life with evolution of digital imaging devices. Cameras that enabled me to see images from the scopes with the unaided eye due to astigmatism. Perhaps, in a later show, you could add an inexpensive digital imaging device to this microscope? Thank you. Your videos are very informative, and your enthusiasm makes them easy to watch.
I think the easiest imaging device (camera) that can be added is a standard mobile phone over a mobile phone adapter. Mobile phones allow also for HD video, which is currently not possible with USB2 cameras (too slow data transfer to computer). USB3 cameras work for HD video but are expensive.
Ok ty !!!
Just got one seems they fixed alot of the things you talked about
I got an $80 AMScope M150 basically the same design, lots of the cheaper 'scopes seem to share parts and manufacturers regardless of whos name is screened on it. Other than the absolutely filthy optics its a damn solid scope. I do fabrication and machining for a living so it wasn't too big of a deal to take apart the objectives and give the bits a bath. If you're similarly handy, they're pretty fun to tinker with. Get everything into alignment, adapt an old webcam or mount a (d)SLR to it. Itll pull decent images with very little fiddling. The objective turret is a little off lens to lens, but at $80 im not mad about it. These cheap 'real' microscopes are great for people who are interested in microscopy. Plenty of interesting things can be resolved for a general passing interest in the tiny world. If you're debating on getting a cheap scope, just do it. You won't be disappointed. My only advice I have is spend the extra few bucks and get one with a binocular head. Youll want to stare into the tube for a long time looking at all the interesting things, and that will make it far more comfortable.
The slides have sharp edges.....and the covers are worse. The covers I used brake just dropping them on the table. But that, didn't stop me from using them....along with a chemistry set!
Too cool !
I bought a vivitar and it was very cheap second hand ... I watch all your videos keep up the awesome videos .. big fan bud
I just bought the Swift SW380 based solely on your recommendation. I hope it's a good one! :)
I'm curious if the mirror could be changed out with a prism specifically cut for the smaller device.
bought - been looking for a decent cheap microscope for so long now.
You are my middle age hero dude!
I now have a microscope - bought second hand off ebay. It a monocular compound microscope that cost £80. It is badged as a VWR VisiScope microscope ML 103, but does not quite match the listed specification in that it has a mechanical stage and a condenser which do not appear standard for that model. There are some other differences that make me think that the one I have is an older version that has been upgraded.
Better microscopes are generally very modular so that they can be adapted to specific needs. If you visit the website of VWR, then you can see that they offer a variety of "different" scopes, which are different just by the features that they have attached. It is common to take one microscope base and then mount the features (mechanical stage, condenser etc) as needed. It is also possible to exchange the objectives etc. The student versions might not include condenser and mechanical stage, but the ones sold for research might have them connected etc.
Question: Would you recommend LED or halogen light for viewing blood smears , bacteria, parasites. Thanks so much for all your videos. I have learned a great deal from watching and listening to your vids. 👍👍👍🙏
I just wanted to say thanks for the no-nonsense videos, after a £3 charity shop microscope I was hooked and looking for get a proper one now (well a cheap beginner one), this would have done me nicely but i can't find an easy like-4-like alternative - it's a minefield out there!
Having bought this microscope for my niece's last Christmas (on your advice - thankyou by the way - they loved it!) I am looking for something for myself. Would you still recommend this for an interested amateur or is there something better that has become available?
I got it on Amazon /free shipping for 52 usd ! I week later I checked and it was 92 usd.Guess it was my lucky day
Lucky you. I paid 70.
iv never seen a video with 100% thumbs up
Frrrr
hello, have you checked svbony and aopwell beginner microscopes as well? especially for the svbony, it uses prism instead of mirror, has coated objectives, stage knobs, and other features that really helps beginners. it's relatively low price as well. just wanted to share :)
id like to see the factory that makes house fly leg slides for microscopes.
I have just received my first microscope, with a very similar frame to this one but just lacking the extra light and soft focus knob. I noticed it has no mechanical stage, what are some good practices for moving the specimen around without a mechanical stage?
Yaaaayy!!!!!!
My microscope was good enough! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
I may just buy that microscope. It is good enough for a hobby :) thanks for the video.
Hi, thank you for your videos. Do you know any good book that would be useful to a beginner to learn how to recognize and give a name to the most common microbes and/or biological structures that you can observe with a microscope?
If I’m looking to buy a different eye piece what do you recommend ? Thanks for the video.
I have the same microscope and I am happy that I found an overview. Thanks for all of the information, I love your videos. I hope to eventually save enough for a better microscope. Also I'd love to own an electron microscope.
Wow! id love to own an electron microscope too but ofc theyre like 1 million euro in my country and they need their own room basically
Did you buy another one
I don't have a microscope yet, I'm saving to buy my own death star.
What about the other magnifications? Like 400 or 600?
Can you give us suggestions on mid budget eyepieces and objectives that fit this telmu microscope so that we can tailor it to our specific need? I use this one for dog fecal examinations for egg larvae . For example a brighter led bulb or how to put on a movable X Y stage or if we can add a double level stage?
Very useful video. That microscope is currently $65 on amazon--so cheap! It would be nice if you would review one that is slightly nicer but still cheap. Basically one with a prism and better optics but otherwise like this one. I want an inexpensive microscope but I think this one is shooting just a little low.
Check the video on the Swift/National Optical microscope I made.
Any references for the SVBONY SV601?
I recently bought a cheap omax microscope from amazon. I am super satisfied with the quality and the video I manage to get from it. I have had a fun time looking at water bears.
do they like sugar?
@@sailorondatea Bruce said that he does but he's trying to watch his weight
How cheap?
@@Isaakbue $200
Tardigrade what kind of microscope do you use specifically?
Hi, nice video.
What would you recommend that can go as close as possible to the Olympus image quality in the 200-600$ price range?
I'd like to get into hobby microscopy and be able to shoot cool pictures of micro organisms.
Thanks I am sold...
Whats your opinion about BRESSER BIOLUX NV 20X-1280X. Congrats for the channel I enjoy your videos
I bought this microscope yesterday from a guy who never used it, the box was sealed and a the parts were new. It is a ver good microscope I was able to see bacteria and some rotifers with it. I paid $35 for it. :)
what about a vid showing the effects of detergents on microbes?
Hi mate, thank you very much for your great videos and information. It is appreciated. I have a question if you could please answer. I need a proper microscope for Gemology, to see through stones like quartz, emerald, etc... and around what prices please? cheers mate.
how can I add the blue light lens?
Where can I get the eye piece that you exchange please??
One thing that would have been interesting: comparing the cheap and expensive eyepieces with both microscopes.
My notes (I am totally new to microscopy and looking for a unit for my kids). Sharing my notes based on this video for others:
Must:
Course and fine focus
Availability (amazon)
Good:
Metal construction
Spring loaded objective minimises risk of crashes
Light intensity regulator
Twin bottom and top lights
10x, 25x pieces
mobile phone adapter
Ready-made and blank professionally made microtoned slides
Battery powered
Replaceable LED
Neutral:
Colour filters
Non-linear LED so it jumps around a bit (linear not neccessary)
Negative:
Doesn't adhere to 160 objective, DIN
No built in preventor for crashes
Distance between mobile phone and eyepiece is too large so the viewing field is small. The eye relief and phone adapter don't match well creating a big gap.
Must refocus when switching objectives.
Images appear mirrored (backwards). More of an issue if looking at letters.
From another Microbehunter's other video
Min requirements
Objectives: 4x, 10x, 40x objectives
Standard: DIN 160mm is common for economy microscopes
10x eyepiece
Mechanical stage
Condenser
LED or Halogen illumination
Is it possible to observe microorganisms such as protists? I mean to observe them moving
Ja, I'm gonna get this one to start
SO sweet do I find your videos!! Question: Would it be worth it to solder into this unit an optional plug in for the LED light such as a cell phone charger or not worth it? I've read reviews stating anything 'battery powered' light wise just don't do the job?? Thoughts anyone?
