Some say this movie has the best villain of this series so far
It is
Yes then Solomon
I have to agree. I just watched all 6 movies and he is my favorite. The way he talks, how nonchalant he is when he makes threats, how unbothered he is by Ethan's own threats. Honestly, he is arguably one of my favorite villains in any movie.
Something to do with him being the best actor, I reckon.
Well it is Philip Seymour Hoffman after all. RIP. Such an amazing actor.
this movie is special just because of PSH's performance. the most ice-cold villain in any of these movies imo. I love how dead his eyes look and how bland he kind of is. and yeah that interaction with him and ethan on the plane is one of my all-time-favorites. PSH manages to scare the crap out of you and keep the power in a scene while he's tied to a chair helpless. masterful acting
This is honestly where the franchise starts.
I love that a lot of the reactors I follow are currently reacting to this series. Can't get enough.
This movie brought the series back to its roots but the series took off and got way better starting with the next one of Ghost Protocol. Mainly:
- steady camera footage (no hand-held)
- ditching undercover Ethan and love interests
- have Tom Cruise do all his own stunts and make them even crazier with as long takes as possible
- focus on emotional and tighter storytelling
- make Ving and Simon mainstays in the crew
Glad you enjoyed this one. Philip Seymour Hoffman played my favorite villain in the franchise. He keeps things no-nonsense, ruthless, and all too personal, which something I wish more villains were like. "I'm gonna die unless you kill me" is one of my favorite lines in the series. I've also been to Shanghai, so it was interesting to see it in the movie. I went to the top of the Jin Mao Tower, which is where Tom Cruise jumped from. The final scene with him running and saving Julia wasn't done in a suburb of Shanghai, but about an hour away in the town of Xitang. Seeing it in this movie reminds me of the Suzhou Grand Canal, which I go to sail on. This isn't my favorite Mission Impossible movie, but it's the starting step in a direction that turns Mission Impossible into one of greatest action/spy series in modern cinema. You'll see why soon enough. And hey, thanks for mentioning the Bay Bridge. It's always good to hear someone talk about iconic parts of my area, and not immediately default to the Golden Gate.
The glass in the warehouse or whatever broke first from the pressure changes in the room because of the grenade going off. (You can see it flash just as she goes up toward the glass). All the glass shattered at the same time, not just the one Maggie Q went through
some movies deteriorate after multiple viewings, but these ones just get better over the years
MI3 is one of most sophisticated and complex action storyline. I was surprised you actually followed everything perfectly and were actually able to enjoy the movie for what it is.
The sequels only get better and better from here.
Hahaha this is easily one of the funniest reactions you’ve ever done. The constant “AHHH” is killing me. Hahahaha
Bleeping out Ethan Hunts last name during the wedding scene was brilliant Chad. Laughed out loud!!! I tip my cap to you sir.
haha
you gotta take a chill pill.
I think this one is underrated in the series. I think it might have the most personal stakes, the best acting, and the best villain. Kinda bummed they still haven't brought Laurence Fishburne back, he killed it.
RIP Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He was brilliant, in this role and many others.
#2 Was a John Woo directed movie. At the time John Woo had a very popular Asian style of movie that, at the time, was in demand. Most of stuff he did in all his movies, like the white pigeons, didn’t last the test of time. But when #2 hit the theaters we loved it then. Now, not so much. 😂
PSH made this movie 1,000 times better than it already was, which is saying a lot. The man was such an inspiring talent, gone far too early. He absolutely kills it in everything he's in. Even Twister, which is a comfort movie of mine. RIP to one of the true legends.
Please do a video for MAGNOLIA, with Cruise and Philip Seymore Hoffman (the villain here). It’s probably one of Cruise’s best performances and the film is incredible.
I think of Magnolia EVERY TIME I watch this. They need to watch ALL Paul Thomas Anderson films, of course.
I would call MI2 was a “product of its time.” 😂 Caught up in the post Matrix bullet time/slow mo hoopla hahah. This movie was the first time I actually noticed Tom Cruise’s running shtick as well. 😂 Philip Seymour-Hoffman was an absolute gem of an actor. Gone way too soon!
this is the best Mission: Impossible movie, in my opinion. It has Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the best villain ever, and it has JJ Abrams as director, when he hadn't really directed any movies just yet. He resurrected the franchise when MI:2 was just a piece of trash.
Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but Michelle Monaghan is also in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.. a good future movie for a reaction if you haven’t seen it yet.
J.J. Abrams, from years of working behind the scenes on many projects to getting major shine with television (Felicity, Lost & Alias) and co-writing Armageddon (no.1 film of 1998).
M-I:3 is his directorial film debut and his first of 3 sequels as an producer.
Because M-I:2, despite it's success was considered the weakest and a new direction had to be set onward.
So M-I:3 is direct sequel to the first film and just as good, beat for beat.
Stakes have certainly grown higher as The late Philip Seymour Hoffman is incredibly vicious as Davien.
Hunt and co. still defy the odds even when his potential marriage is in danger.
All over the place and just an incredible sequel.
From here on out, every mission connects.
4-6 are really going to blow your mind.
A huge uptick from MI:2, with an awesome villain and excellent action sequences. Suffers a bit from Abrams' lens flare and shaky cam but this movie set the stage for making Mission Impossible a top tier movie franchise.
Couldn't agree more. 2 was twice as long as it should have been just because of all the damn slow-motion.
Honestly, the lens flare isn't as noticeable as his Star Trek movies.
You know what get off MI2 OK it was a different time and it's still a favorite among my generation lol. Obviously, all the films after are better films. But part 2 still hold special place in our hearts.
I wish captions didn't tell the viewer story elements before they're meant to be revealed. This is the second reaction of this movie in which the reactor knew that the off screen whispering was Musgraves before the audience was shown him. Rather than just saying, "Off screen whispering," the captions spoiled a surprise. (The same thing happened in the last episode of The Last of Us, when Joel was driving in the car.) Across the board for movies and TV shows, captions are implemented incompetently.
I think this movie is the best MI!!! It's SO good and SO intense that they had to dial it back in the later movies. This is low-key "rated R and not appropriate for a general audience" PG-13, and the others are "a jolly good romp" PG-13. Love the POG faces at the bridge scene and the consternation at the parachute scene. Did this movie make a new record for Faces Per Minute? And Maple's Jug constantly sniping us. She thirsty!
Philip Seymour Hoffman. Damn. Never not missed.
This is my favorite M:I movie because it is so personal to Ethan and the villain is world class. Thanks for sharing your reaction with us. And the teases in the edit make me excited. BB? Hell yeah!
Director : Let's usr CGI
Tom: I am CGI ( Cruise Going Insane)
The glass broke first because she timed it to the detonation of the explosive which broke the glass a second before she went through it.
4:35 Lol, the glass breaks because of the overpressure of the explosive blast, which is a cool little detail (however, grenades do not go out in big fiery explosions like that, thats a hollywood flourish).
The jump off the building was actually a 5 story soundstage/green screen but Tom Cruise really did jump it. HOWEVER, starting with the next Mission Impossible movie Tom Cruise does ALL his own stunts FOR REAL!!!!!! EVERY SINGLE STUNT whether it’s climbing the tallest building, running down the building, motorcycle racing, holding his breath underwater for 6 minutes, hanging on the side of an airplane taking off, flying helicopters, etc. he does all of them.
She was sooooo satisfied about Musgraves!! 😂😂😂🫵🏻👊🏻
[Nerd Mode!] FUN FACT: They actually did have 3D printing back in the early 2000s, but it wasn't the same kind of printing process as current 3D printers, which use the spools of material to print on a plate. Instead the printer had a bin with a sand-like powder, and the printer would lay down a layer of glue, then drag a new layer of sand/powder over it, then print another layer of glue. The prints wound up more like little pieces of stone (at least with the types I was familiar with) than the current plastic pieces.
The series really got back on track with J. J. Abrahms directing this one. It's definitely its own thing. But it set the future tone.
The bay Bridge. Is it the #1 place where people commit s**cide?!?!
"This is the longest running scene I have ever seen"
Oh,, just wait..
This movie is perfection.
It would have been a perfect film, the perfect action thriller, if they had had the courage to remove the ironic element altogether.
@@MrENRAP naaahh
@@Renan.rs92 it would have been enough to cut very few things of the film (but then it would have grossed even less :P:P), which for me remains the most important and perhaps even the best of the series..
p.s.: I love the 2 screenwriters, Kurtzman&Orci, and I would say also the director, able to excite even when the protagonists of his films do not say a word in the scene
You know, considering the first phone call Ethan gets, I wonder if all those "scams" weren't really just opportunities to go be a ninja....
This movie introduced me to Michelle Monaghan. And I really like her in this, but she was even more awesome in The Heartbreak Kid and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Two movies, I'd HIGHLY recommend.
RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman. The best of his generation
This movie probably saved The franchise everything was so much better than the second Mission impossible and what a performance by the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman
I saw you guys asking but yes that stunt off the building is real. Tom is very adamant about doing his own stunts especially in the Mission Impossible movies. And they stunts only get wilder from here.
I'm a child of the '60's. This theme song is one of the best! It hasn't changed in 50 years, and they still use it. Ranks up there with Mancini's Pink Panther.
When you watch these, its more fun if you do so with the knowledge that Tom does all his own stunts
The brain explodey thing creeped me out when I saw this as a kid
After seeing Arianna crush on Michelle Monaghan in this, you gotta show her Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. She should've become a huge star after that movie, she's great (and very attractive, although she always is) in it. Also, just a great movie in general which more people need to see.
Yes!!! Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang is great.
The opening scene is one of the best scenes in history imo
Loving the reactions to this set of films, do you think you’ll finish the oceans movies?
This is my favorite Mission impossible film. My second would be rogue nation, but this one is just gritty and hard-hitting with the best villain in the franchise.
Best part of this video is confirmation we'll be getting BB reactions on yt eventually
Another excellent movie with Michelle Monaghan is "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang."
Featuring some of the finest "Tom Cruise is running" footage of his career
edit: also an early Aaron Paul appearance as the brother of the wife
edit 2: lmao at Ariana's "coming out" re: Michelle Monaghan, and yeah 3d printing has been around that long
"Babada boopee!"
Gone Baby Gone! Michelle was in that too! Important ending, though.
The editing in this video is 👌🏼
You asked what happened to his, Ethan's, last girlfriend? I wondered the same, until I did some research. Thandie-Newton...refused to do "Mission Impossible 3". She had been scheduled for the movie. Further, apparently she didn't like doing the action scenes in "Mission Impossible 2"...so she was being difficult on-set - and was being a bit of a diva. She didn't have the physicality, and didn't want to learn - in terms of stunt planning...and training. In fact, she was afraid. As a result, Tom retired her character - without any explanation for her absence.
BTW, she was a friend of Tom's then wife Nicole...the reason why she got the role in the first place.
Thandie-Newton, now has a reputation for being difficult on-set. While filming a recent movie, she allegedly had some issue on-set with Channing Tatum (her co-star) - leading to a vicious argument...that she was the alleged aggressor in. She wouldn't leave Tatum alone, and pursued him to his dressing room/trailer - loudly trying to convince him of something. Apparently, the argument was over a breaking political story in the news. In the end, another actress replaced her on the film. Reports claim that Tatum (who is the producer of the film) fired Newton. The director denies all of it. In Hollywood, those in the know...typically lie on the record. I don't think Tatum has made any comment on the matter.
@@GeorgeTropicana: Yeah, I was once a big fan of her's - but now I now why her career went absolutely nowhere. She is a troublemaker on-set and a complete diva. Tom Cruise was going to make her his ongoing co-star in the "Mission Impossible" franchise. Apparently, he has since rehabbed her character...and would-be story arc...by splitting the character in two...as Rebecca Ferguson's character...and that of Hayley Atwell. I'll note, Atwell plays a thief who is being mentored by Ethan Hunt - just like Thandie-Newton's character.
I died laughing when he beeped hunt like c@&t
Director: Let's use CGI
Tom : I am CGI ( Cruise Going Insane)
Arianna loves speedboats? Chad, you know what you have to do - show her Thunder In Paradise
I literally spat my drink out when Arianna said"i might be a little on the queer side"like Maple it caught me completley off guard haha great reaction guys can't wait for Ghost Protocol😊
You also have to remember that the movies changed so much cinematically because of advances in technology. They just had more tools available.
Wait, what was Ariana saying about the Bay bridge? I live near there.
Thanks for the video!
Maple wants to start making weird faces at babies 🤣🤣🤣
Now this is when the movies really start going WILD.
can we just get more ariana doing the robot?
I miss Philip Seymour Hoffman so much.
I forgot that Hoffman and Fishbourne were in this one. Are Maple and Hannah sisters?
"I'm so offended by this right now" seriously?
😂😂😂😂
WHERE IS THE RABBITS FOOT
i wanna know what its like editing these collab reactions, are they just constantly talking? lol
Best movie and villain of the series but the rest are so so good
Du.... du hast... du hast mich... du hast mich gefragt, du hast mich gefragt
You guys would really enjoy The Italian Job
Thanks for the reaction to mission impossible 3 😊✌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I hope you guys react to mission impossible until it's finished, I'll be waiting for the mission impossible reaction video from you 😊😊 . keep spirit and healthy always
We get it....the second one sucked! It was the only crappy one in the franchise. They just keep getting better and better from here on out. You'll see ;) Looking forward to watching them with you.
Pretty sure I’m crushing on Ariana 😍
10:37 - The unnecessary censorship! 😂
Seriously, Ade...seriously?
Robot-ing to the M.I. theme.
You too are such dorks!
Arianna told us
Cool movie, bro.
this one has the best villain, but 4-6 are better movies, looking forward to you seeing those
Okay why is Ariana not allowed to touch Maple?!
We are in front of green screens and she has to stay on her side or her arm will teleport 😂 like portal
Ah yea. Diet Jesus, who says communion has to mean extra calories?
Y'all should watch a Wes Anderson film together
Maples water ‘bottle’ is kinda extra. I’m
Into it
Hey did the girls ever watched the Rush Hour movies? These would be good reactions, even if its not their first watch.
Facts they do do that facts clone
I’d be lying if my eyes was on the movie the whole time 😂
The people behind this series apparently never saw the original show.
PSH’s was dealing in this
#ScaryScaryScaryScary!!!
I’m sorry did you bleep Hunt when they gave Ethan’s full name?? What in the ever living hell Lmao. What is going on with CZcams. Somebody for the love of the almighty.
You two are funny
Unpopular opinion:
Mission: Impossible 2 >>>>> Mission: Impossible 3
Very unpopular
morgan freeman? laurence fishburne!!!!!!!!!!
3:33 false
MI2 is really the only weak film out of the series. Every other one is fantastic. Even two wasn’t terrible. It was just way too stylized and focused too much on the “cool” shots rather than having a great story.
Maggie Q? More like Maggie cute
Yes this is the best villain and this movie saved the franchise because the second one was a shit show
Stupidest thing I always remember this movie and ithan and the team showing their faces wood never happen.
Is it ok that I am a 26 year old man and I have never ever and still have not had and have a girlfriend and kiss and sex ual so on 😮😮😮😮😢😢😢😢
