I have a 9th gen my self and I dont trust any mechanic in my area. Thanks for the help!
Awesome video!! love how you explained every little detail step by step !
Thank you for watching!
Bless you for making this video! Just completed my first transmission fluid change on my 2012 civic with 87,000 miles. Having the crush washer part numbers in the comments was extremely helpful. The whole job cost me $20 and no problems doing it. Again... thanks!
Not a problem! Just glad to help! Thank you for watching!
I'm having a hell of a time right now shifting my car into first gear lately. It only gets close to freezing every now and then where I live, and my car is only at around 40k miles, but I've had her since the end of 2015.
Never had the gearbox oil changed, so I'm definitely gonna knock this out.
Thank you for the video. It really helped
Thanks for the video man it really helped me do the transmission and engine oil. Thanks and God bless you
Glad I could help!
Good video...straightforward....no bs....
Great video bro thanks😀
Thanks for taking the time to record this video. Always better to see and hear than just read about it.
I'm at 40k with 98% interstate miles, so not too far out. The dealership in Nashville wanted $130 for this. That really scared me. I did MT oil changes on my '92 Civics all the time. I couldn't understand why this would be so different. It isn't!
It really sucks a big one that they don't sell the service manuals any more. I can understand not selling paper in lieu of a CD. I guess they're just pricks!
And also, my shop forgot to do it on the previous owner.
thanks for the video will finish my transmission flush tomorrow bc my goofy self let the drain plug fall in my sealed off oil catcher so imma go to an oil sump to get the drain plug back to finish the job lol
This is the same for 2013-2015 Acura ILX's with the k24z7 6-spd. Thanks!
nice vid!! thank you
No problem friend!
Clean ass video
3:10 Sounds like the car is Sonic, and died (When loosening the bolt) dropping all his Golden coins LOL
Dude this had me dying 😂 -Zep
thanks for the awesome tutorial! I was able to change out the MTF following your video.
A couple helpful notes:
1) The transmission drain crush washer is the same size as the engine oil drain crush washer.
and 2) I was able to fill through the check hole with a smaller ~0.5" diameter tubing -- so long as the tubing is seated in the hole and doesn't pop out, it should be fine. Maybe have someone hold the tubing while you fill for extra precaution.
Gary Liu thanks for watching! I mentioned using the washer as reference just wasn't clear on it so thanks!
What size are those crush washers for the drain and fill plugs???
Can't hear the audio well.
What third party manual transmission fluid can be used on 2000 Civic EX?
Hi, great video! It gave me a lot confidence in doing this myself. Quick question, does the plastic tube have to be a snug fit when filling the new fluid?
Thanks! And no it doesnt but just make its not gonna go anywhere on you
Amsoil will last 100,000 IMO, but it shifts terribly from 1st to 2nd in my 2008 Si during the winter months until the running gear warms up. I'm switching back to OEM and found it for $5 a quart
Thanks for the video 🤘🏾.. What sizes were the washers please
14mm and 20mm
Thank you just changed mine and it made a huge difference. SubScribed to your channel. Would love to see follow up video on which fluid brand works best.
Thank you! Will probably do redline fluid next and see the difference
I’m back. Need to do it again. Can’t believe it’s been 4 years already. I had bought 4 quarts of Amsoil so I still have 2 left. Had good results.
Crap I’m at 130k, I should do this soon. Great video. Very helpful
Thank you! But yeah might be a good idea haha. Have fun with it!
Well I did it today. Not a bad job, but the hose I bought was too short so I had to remove the air box. Also I’m surprised these cars don’t have a magnetic drain plug. Had a few metal shavings in the drain pan, but nothing serious
CapeCodFlatsboat glad you got it done! But yeah a magnetic drain plug you would think is intuitive to have. Hope the video helped!
@@kevingould8190 how’s your car running now?I’m at 99,575 miles on my 2015 and now im worried it’s past overdue. I never got a maintenance minder regarding trans fluid yet. Better now than never right?
@@Litto1 I sold my Si last year with 210k mi. No issues.
mine is about 4 years over due! lol gatta do it this summer!
These cars are tough 😂 get her done!
@@CarsCouches needs an oil change and spark plug change too lol
Nice thank i need my done wich i will be doing tomarrow but can u also fill it up where the clutch linkage is at si ce theirs another bolt that going to the transmission .??
Tereso Gutierrez
You could yes, I just prefer doing it from the check hole. Honestly did not try to see how much trouble it is since I assumed I'd have to take out the air box. Either way you need either a couple funnel or on with a hose. BTW it was 1/2" I.d. hose
goo.gl/images/cccG1G
Yea i thought so wich its not hard at all specially if u have an aftermarket air intake but i might be trying from up their since the car would be perfectly level and you be filling it up all the way to the top assuming it will and the bolt is for filling tran oil.... but thank you again and the fast response
Tereso Gutierrez
No problem, whatever way you prefer as long as it gets done. Have fun with it.
Sorry if this is stupid question but ive heard people mentioning changing the "gear fluid" is that the same as clutch fluid? And do you need to change it? I just dont know very much about cars and i financed one of these got about 5 years left paying off and just wanna make sure it runs a while and i maintain it correctly. And i dont have the money to go to expensive dealership always, but yea sorry for my ignorance im pool guy not car guy lmao but yea thanks in advance i appreciate it.
No stupid questions for the inexperienced! Clutch fluid is not the same as gear fluid. Clutch fluid is for the hydraulic action that causes clutch engagement, which is the same as brake fluid (dot3 or 4). Gear fluid usually refers to differential fluid or gear oil which isnt far off from MTF but wouldn't interchange. Whoever you're talking to I'm pretty sure they mean MTF. If you want to change clutch fluid then you would have to bleed it from the slave cylinder and the reservoir is located next to the brake master cylinder. Also the maintenance schedule is online if you want to see want is recommended. Hope I am helpful!
Thanks man gonna do this today. Where was the excess fluid leaking from? The fill hole? I couldn’t see it.
Yup when your full, which should be about the 2 qts, the extra should be from the fill hole.
Cars & Couches dude, I just wanna say thank you. You’re awesome for answering within minutes and such a clear concise tutorial. I did want to note I used a pump instead but the funnel was probably way easier 🤣 if anyone wants the pump, it was purchased on amazon here: Shoreline Marine Pump www.amazon.com/dp/B004UOPZ9S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Doy5Eb3WTDFEW
Hi! I came across this video looking for tutorials, and I was curious: what are the part numbers for those washers you used?
94109-20000 (20mm)
94109-14000 (14mm)
@@CarsCouches Awesome, thank you so much. Awesome tutorial btw
Can you please share de oil part number?
I own an EM one for many years and just bought a 2013 SI, do you really have to take the tire off just to change the transmission fluid?
I guess you really dont have to but sure helps with room
did u have to remove the air filter to get to where u dump the fluid?
Fabeezy Bruh Nope, just put the hose next to the air box down to the side of the transmission.
What’s the difference in filling from the fill plug you used and the one under the intake air box?
None. Just preference. The 1 I used you can use as a level check is all. But qty is still 2 qts
So I rebuilt my k20z3 trans. New to k series not new to Honda. How many courts do I use since it’s literally bone dry in there?
It's like 1.7 quarts capacity or 3.2 pints, I think if you buy 2 quarts it would be plenty.
So I have a question , my gears are really hard to go in when the weather is cold. Will Replacing my tranny fluid help it not be hard to go into ?
There’s some to unpack here. How many miles does your car have? How cold are we talking and when is the last time you had your trans fluid replaced?
Fluid transfer pumps are only 10 dollars or so at auto zone tho lol that's a lot of extra work
Is it still okay to proceed if I can’t loosen my fill plug? I know how to fill from the top I just don’t know if it’s harmful for the car to have some fluid left
You could always try pb blaster to loosen it up or fill it from the top like you said. You shouldn't be hurting anything, really when you fill from the the fill plug, you'll lose like .05 of a quart so that little extra is just fine.
How many quarts did it exactly take then? Like the full 2 quarts?
Yea use the full 2 qts. The slight extra will leak through the fill hole
Doing mine today guys wish me luck
Good Luck!
@@CarsCouches it went very smoothly thanks for the awesome video car feels brand new im able to shift quicker through the gears now. Not to mention after I was done I belive it was a half quart low much love from south Florida
Awesome! Glad we could help. 👍🏼
What size are both drain n fill washers?
14mm and 20mm
I can't fit my socket into that fill plug
What are those bolts torqued to? Any specific spec?
Hi Rob, if it wasn’t mentioned in the video I’m not too sure. Steve hasn’t made content in a while or check channel comments. -Zep
Always remember wearing gloves when handeling any type of oil (oil is not good for you). Furthermore I reccomend placing your car on 4 jackstands to get it horizontal! That is wayy safer than doing it with a jack, especially if you remove a wheel.
Thank you!
what sizes are the watchers and where did you get them from? thanks
Ivan Blanco
94109-20000 / Washer, Drain Plug (20MM)
94109-14000 / Washer, Drain Plug (14MM)
20mm for the check/fill hole and 14 for the drain hole. Got them from the dealer which is probably the easiest way to make sure you get the right stuff.
Thanks for watching!
Cars & Couches Thank you, i appreciate it
Ivan Blanco
Not a problem
why do you need to change the plugs and washers??? I change my engine oil all the time and never changed the plug and washer and no problems at all. so, is this just for the transmission change?
Would this work with my car ? I have a 2018 Honda Civic LX sedan manual transmission
Cant say for sure, but probably the same. I'd check some forums, usually the forums have the info first
@@CarsCouches ok thanks
should be the same procedure for a 2014 right?
Christian Araujo
Correct
@@CarsCouches thanks i appreciate it
Where can i get a hose to that same size?
Yajid Vidal
Any hardware store, just ask an employee for bulk hose and 3 ft of it should do.
Cars & Couches thanks bud
Not a problem, thanks for watching!
Where do you get your washers from?
The honda dealership for like 3 bucks I'm pretty sure
@@CarsCouches perfect thank you you wouldn't happen to know the sizes
Have you ever changed the transmission filter?
No I have not, and I sold the civic some time ago now. But I’m sure it isn’t too difficult.
Why didn't you just fill using the fill bolt on top? Just curious. I understand your point of knowing you're at 2qts, but I mean if you've bought 2qts not really any guesswork there.
Daniel Austin
Yes your right and there isn't anything stopping you from doing that and/or leaving the check hole open too but I didn't do it that way mainly because I'm lazy and didn't feel like removing the air box haha. Plus the full 2 qts was actually a little past the bottom of the check hole even tho it would've been fine like that.
Thanks for watching!
Cars & Couches
Appreciate you taking the time to reply.
Daniel Austin
not a problem! Have fun with this!
so check hole is best cuz that’s how you know for sure it’s 2 qt right?
xxNITTYGRITTYxx
Correct, Thanks for watching!
You dont drain & fill x3? From what I understand this is a partial drain. I think if you want to flush all the fluid you have to do it 3x
If you want to do a thorough flush yes you can do this but I think it would be a little overkill to do this every time. Just personal feelings over it but if you want the utmost care for it all power to you.
Did you use all 2 quarts of transmission oil?
Yes more or less, whatever is too much will drain from the fill hole but it will be hardly any
What is that ratchet called?
It the max axcess by craftmens, honestly prefer normal ratchets but once in a blue moon they definitely help.
Thanks for watching!
There’s apparently two fill locations? I followed this video and let the car level out and dropped some but this video shows there’s a bolt under the air box. czcams.com/video/TuCcdc-J7og/video.html
What size tube please
bow and gl
I used 3' of 1/2" OD hose you can pic up at any hardware store. Thanks for watching!
bow and gl
Or you can get your new crush washer and use it as a reference to make sure.
Thanks doing this today finally late 34k miles
What else have you done to the si? Such as replace of shifter bushings ?
bow and gl
Very nice! Good luck!
How is your civic today?
He sold it! Sure it’s still great.
@@CarsCouches thanks! Just picked one up with 11k miles gonna give it some tlc hehe
Car needs to be level when you fill it .
Right and it was I just didnt show it. So thanks for the confirmation for everybody.
It was MUCH faster removing the stock intake from the top and filling from the top. 1) no tire removal 2) don’t have to wriggle in such tight spaces. 3) don’t have to watch for any leaks out of the tube :/
somehow I DOUBT THAT!
all you had to do is jack the car up and get under
don’t have to remove tires or anything i did it no problem lol
make a video on how to do it ur way
NoLimit steez. Lmao fr
So it only took 2 quarts of tranny oil i thought it was 3.???
Tereso Gutierrez
No sir about 2 quarts, check hole is always the way to go. Thanks for watching!
