You cant really tell the indian streaming story without talking to Sid Roy Kapur. One of the most respected producers in the business, he’s backed more than 80 films according to his IMDB, including gems like DANGAL, BARFI, Udaan, Paan Singh Tomar, and HAIDER.
Previously the Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company India and CEO of UTV of UTV Motion Pictures, Sid also served as president of the Producers’ Guild of India for multiple terms. He now runs Roy Kapur Films which has made numerous shows and movies for streaming including Aranyak for Netflix and the excellent Rocket Boys for SonyLIV.
To bring in the new season of The Streaming Show, Sid spoke to me about the state of the streaming and theatrical landscapes, the continued struggles of smaller films and And whether the golden age of streamign is well and truly over.

Such a well-spoken man!
He’s so articulate.
Hey Suchin! You're doing a great job! Thanks for having these conversations!
I had a request. If a screenwriter wants to pitch their bible to a producer like Siddharth, how can they reach out to them what kind of prep should a screenwriter be armed with in order to make the pitch?
Could you ask a question like this to the producers/studio heads you're interviewing? It'll be a great help to aspiring screenwriters, since most of us aren't aware of the nitty-gritties of it. Thanks :)
@Suchin I came across your channel today. It’s great to finally see a host who has carried out his research, can ask intelligent questions, can hold his own and let’s the guest speak rather than sharing his own life experiences (as if anybody cares about them). Keep it going.
:)
Hey Suchin...As usual good podcast.....Subscribed as well.
Liked the interview, insightful QA, @Suchin - I had to check whether the playback speed was 2x. Take your time, speak a bit slowly, don't rush it.
Yay!! Fellow Jagga Jasoos lover❤
Your standards are so f-ing low.
30.00. It's not about availability of screen. As long as ticket prices remain High (hero eats 50 % of the movie budget) theatre occupancy will fall drastically. Long back movie are only source of entertainment. Now it's no longer. I can travel new place, spend time on sports. No wonder why single screen theatres are gone. Corporates surviving due to capital. None of the theatre chains in the world are all time high. Forgot about all time High they are trading record low.
5:20 for that indian creators need to organise unions.
Bhai itni jaldi mein kyun rehte ho app? Thoda mazey se liya karo interview... Overall it was good work. Way to go!
Nice interview! @Suchin could you just talk a little slowly? Your words seem unclear at times...

Please add a timestamp. In the meantime, I don't like to hear him speak in a politically correct way.
Typical corporate man
I was looking for this kind of comment! Sid's always eloquent but too guarded so I never learn anything new. In contrast, Raj and DK were way more willing to share their thoughts.
I'm a middle class Indian. I don't subscribe to any platform. Just watch CZcams.

Suchin has a flight to catch.Talking too fast. Sounds crazy
Leave Suchin and give Samdish an interview.
......d-dad?

How dare you compare Suchin to that dummy who thinks sitting cross legged and asking Anurag Kashyap if he watches porn makes for a great conversation ?
The major reason why Hindi industry in doing worst than ever and why South is shining like anything is this very interview. Producers are not honest enough to accept the fact that they themselves are controlling what to be made and what not to be. Name one single production house in Bollywood who are going beyond Mumbai to look out for talents and stories and allowing filmmakers, writers from other states to make their original stuff.
The shows that these OTTs are approving are uninteresting, extremely boring and have nothing new to offer.
Producers like Sid Roy Kapur or Ronnie Screwala made their careers out of those "small films", its only when they tasted money they all went on the "greed" mode and now they completely disregard those "small films" saying that it didn't do well in theaters during those years so why should we back them?
You can back them, it is probably the best time to back original stories, low budget films, because of the access of theatrical window and OTT all at once.
It is sad that these guys have become typical corporate houses, if they were passionate about films just like when they backed films like Udaan, Hindi industry could have been thriving with lots of new talents.
That's one of the reason why Hindi industry failed to create more Kashyaps.
PS- Also, thank you for these interviews and asking these people the tough questions. I am glad that atleast we have access to what they are thinking as an industry collectively.
I agree with you on almost everything except you setting Kashyap as a benchmark.
But Sid Roy Kapur is continuing porducing small films na? Pippa, Tumse Na Ho Payega, even Sky Is Pink wasn't that big, it just had a big star (PCJ). Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan is also small compared to big tentpoles. And he also backed Rocket Boys, one of the finest OTT shows. I don't think he is being greedy or hypocritical at all, I think he is walking his talk very much.
Also, South Indian market is very different. Number of seats sold per movie is quite high because more people watch movies more number of times.
One thing is, Hindi creators need to create more rooted, authentic stories, and that is something even he mentioned.
Yeah u talk too fast like in 3x ... Slow down
