    Re-composed, post-processed and upscaled into 720p HD with a few minor edits (but no newly rendered scenes) this is the remastered edition of the original video with 288,000 views as of this upload. Remastering comparison at 14:35. To make this look really good the best thing would have been to re-render everything, but I just wasn't up for that so I have made it look the best it can with other tweaks.

    I like to believe the Klingons wrote songs about the Enterprise C and her crew to honor them.
    And on that outpost that she and her crew gave everything to try and save there is a memorial with the name of every crewman who died doing what was right.
    They couldn't know it, but the C made all the difference.

      Yeah, it's unfortunate they didn't make it but it's been 25 years, they could still do it but it wouldn't mean they'd have to exclude Disco. Any TNG movie made is for TNG fans, it'd be exceptionally difficult for someone who knows nothing about Trek to jump in and have a clue about what's going on at this point, that isn't so much the case for Discovery, someone who don't know jack shit about Trek can watch it without getting confused, there's Klingons, Andorians, Vulcans, humans and a time traveler who no one knew about until Discovery, nothing to get confused about. There is also an added bonus of introducing a new audience to the pre TOS Enterprise crew, mainly Christopher Pike, who could easily becone a series of its own. The way I see it, there's room in the Trek universe for just about anything they choose to throw at us. If it does well, the ratings will tell, if it does bad, the ratings will tell that too. I'm not particularly a huge fan of Disco, my outlook for it got a little better when they moved it out of the prime timeline and moved it so far into the future that fucking up the canon is now an impossibility, but I'm still not too optimistic about it. That said, the last episode of TOS aired 3 years before I was born, my Father tried to get me interested in it in the early 80's, I hated it, I thought the sets, makeup, everything was horrible and the cheesiest thing I'd ever seen, barring 'Lost in Space' and I thought, at the time, the storylines were even cheesier. Then TNG rolled around in '87 and I hated it almost as much as I did TOS. I did not realize at the time that a certian amount of TOS cheese flavoring was required in order to get the old fans back interested before they could transition to better sets, graphics etc. I didn't get into TNG until a little over halfway through season 2 but when I finally did get into it, I didn't miss an episode. After that, I finally watched TOS and rewatched TNG again. It wasn't until that point that I really began to see exactly how pertinent the show was, some episodes addressed events and issues that were going on in real life at that time, others are still going on and those episodes are still just as pertinent today as they were when they aired over 50 and 25 years ago respectively. The problem they had with TOS was presentation, they had neither the technology nor the imagination to present it better but they got their point across without ruffling the feathers of certian demographics too bad, which was exactly what Roddenberry had in mind. I've watched TOS through about 3 times and TNG about 5, I didn't get a chance to watch DS9 or Voyager first run but I plan to watch those soon. I did watch ENT first run and it was eh, not too bad but not top shelf Trek either, but that was ok because it opened the door to a new generation of people who had missed out on TNG a decade earlier. Had it not been for TNG, I would have totally missed out on TOS, I would never have voluntarily watched it before TNG came around and I'm quite certain that ENT probably did the same for a lot of people who would never have given neither TNG nor TOS a chance. I said that to say this, Trek changed my mind about more than a few things for the better and each time I watch an episode or a season, I notice things I missed before and make connections I hadn't noticed before and a lot of those have made me see some things from a point of view I had never thought of before. I'm not saying Trek changed my life or core belief system or drastically changed my outlook on the universe, but it did teach me a few things. IF Disco is able to do that too, then it will have served its purpose. IF it totally flops but still gets people who ordinarily wouldn't have given Trek a second thought, then it has served its purpose. IF Disco gets just a handful of people interested enough in Trek to go back and watch at least a few episodes of TOS or TNG, or better yet, the whole series, then it will have opened the door to another generation who just might get something out of it that just might change their minds about some backwards thinking ideas they may have which is what Gene Roddenberry had in mind when he created Trek. Regardless of what happens to Disco, it has peaked a new interest in the franchise and if, or when things go way south, there will be something else that will come along to take its place and hopefully it will be better, and hopefully it'll be a little closer to what Trek was supposed to be. Every series won't be for everyone but the really cool thing about Trek is that it takes place across a galaxy of about 200-400 billion stars, and there were more alternate realities created in TNG than anyone can count so there's plenty of room for the writers to create new series, both good and bad so don't get overly discouraged over one show, there's never been a series or movie yet that's broken Trek and I don't expect there will be, at least not anytime soon.

As for torpedoes, she does fire some at the Romulan Warbird after she disables its shield. If I recall correctly, torpedoes are hugely effective weapons, but against unshielded ships; they're not very effective against shields (the ending of Star Trek VI not withstanding...). There's a reason why (for instance) the Enterprise D usually fires Phasers, not Photon torpedoes.

Then on star date 2266. Captain Kirk of the Enterprise engaged the Romulans at the Neutral zone after they had attacked a few federation colonies. Then in the undiscovered country they tried to breakoff the peace talks between the Klingons and the Federation on Star Date 2293, . They also launched an unprovoked attack on a Klingon Colony at the battle of Narendra III Star Date 2344. On which the Enterprise C was lost. they then attacked Khitomer in a similar fashion to Narendra III on star date 2346. Then there was the Incident at Galorndon Core Star on which they were building a base in federation space on star Date 2366. Then the Trap set for the Enterprise at Nelvana III on Star Date 2366. Adding to this list is the fact that they started the Klingon Civil war on star date 2367.. They also had spies in the Federation High Counsel. Ambassador T'pel who was actually sub-commander selok Star Date 2367. They also tried to take control of Vulcan with a false unification On star date 2368. almost starting a war they'd probably lose badly. years later they tried to destroy Deep space Nine on star date 2371. They finally stopped the Bull and admitted that they wanted the Federation to fall had on star date 2374. On Star Date 2375 they tried to take control of one of Bajor's moons ''Derna'' preparing for the next war and expanding their territory into Federation/Bajoran space. And Finally on star Date 2379. they released their final bid to take the Federation with a Picard clone spy. They deserved to lose their home world. With Worf bouncing around all those differing realities, we can have our TOS universe intact, say that the Bermanverse is an alternate reality [with many sub-realities] and the JJverse, with wrinkled Spock, another [and Vulcan is A.O.K.] universe with even more skewed laws of physics [like a supernova affecting a star system thousands of light years away almost instantly, where in RL, one would have said same thousands of years to

      @mityaboy4639 Před 3 lety

      The super question would be what would have happened with the fragile peace between the Federation and Romulan empire in case the Enterprise D would show up and destroy all 4 romulan vessels. It could very possibly lead to an all in war with the Romulans and given how much more advanced the romulan tech was compared to the Federation (Starfleet), it simply could be a catastrophic chain of events leading to a total Romulan victory over the Federation. That would be a pretty high price to pay for the small victory over 4 warbirds.
      Oh god... we are talking about possible past / future and diplomatic consequences of a TV Series :D are WE the nerds? :D
      (ps: i know i am 10 months too late to this topic) :)

    • @mityaboy4639
      @mityaboy4639 Před 2 lety

      @mandellorian I am not sure i follow your train of thoughts here. the Enterprise C was outmatched here, and given that the Enterprise is the flagship of the fleet its pretty telling that other ships were not up for this standard - which means those are unlikely to take out any Warbirds. The cloaking devices and their disruptors are pretty much the edge they need against Starfleet. And the other thing is Romulan tactics are not ... how can i put it... is not about 1:1 fights. they are flying in flocks. They were pretty much given up their plans only because the Klingon Empire aligned themselves with the federation. and them together were too much for the Romulan Empire. I mean even the Klingons were too much for the 24th century Starfleet (Pickard himself tells the the Captain of the Enterprise C that defeat is inevitable and maybe they have 6 months left.)
      (and pretty much if the C and D together smashed the Romulan warbirds, the Klingon Empire might not have joined the Federation, but rather side with Romulans - which would inevitably lead to the loss of the Federation)
      But are we really arguing about a theoretical timeline on which there is no guideline to follow but our imagination? i mean i might be wrong but i haven't seen anything which would tell us how the Klingon / Romulan empire would develop in case the Klingons decide not to be friends with the Federation. (and also a Star Trek series however dire the situation is will have to come out as victorius anyway else the series would need to change title :) instead of Star Trek -- it would be Romulan Trek or something :D)
      in THAT sense, yeah of course, Starfleet would win by some miracle or something... resurrected Kirk or more timetravel... where they would convince the future that they were already helping because they ARE the future, which means they already gone back and helped, so they must do the same... so Sovereign Class battleships would appear and smash the Romulans :)
      i mean what a story it would have been "and the last starfleet vessel exploded... and with that the federation lost, the following decades had some local fights to break the resistance, but at the end the Romulans took control. A century later the Romulan empire destroyed the Klingon empire too... the end"
      :)

      @Jason75913 Před rokem

      @@mityaboy4639 Enterprise D helping out would spark war?
      But the raiding warbirds were from mavericks, so this was closer to a pirate raid than official Romulan military engagement. Not something to declare war over no matter the situation. It would almost be like England declaring war on Spain because Spanish galleons sunk Blackbeard's ship, lol
      USA did not declare war on Mexico when Pancho Villa tried raiding US border towns in order to provoke US military involvement in Mexico's civil war. They could have, but it was no cause for that, though they did try to chase down and arrest Pancho Villa.
      Now a pair of Starfleet ships defeating Romulan raiders in defense of Klingons would still go over well with the Klingon Empire, just not quite like dying in a hopeless battle as the Enterprise C originally did. And like you said, Federation + Klingon Empire is too much for the Romulan Empire, so a future similar to what TNG takes place in normally is the most likely turn of events.
      Something you sound like you might be assuming is that the Romulan fleet is going to be entirely composed of those warbirds in the vid, those are clearly heavy cruisers of sorts (judging by their size next to the Enterprise) and will never be the majority of a fleet. Like Starfleet, most of the Romulan and Klingon navies are smaller, lighter ships simply because heavy cruisers and battleships/dreadnoughts are the most expensive, nevermind that too many big ships would limit projection of military power (and thus affect politics, too) and limit military presence in space, which then also limits the ability to retain conquered territories. I, too, doubt that the big warbirds will fare well against multiple Ambassador class ships in a proper fleet battle of a military campaign, and smaller warbirds and other light cruisers and frigates will get picked off by Mirandas and whatever other small Federation ships.
      Enterprise C was extremely unlucky to get ganged up on by multiple large warbirds and lose shields right at the start of the fight (or the fight would have been longer).

    Towards the end of the battle, after the Enterprise-C had come back through the temporal rift, I thought it was a great touch how three photon torpedoes were fired anticipating the flight of the Romulan Warbird such that all three impacted at the same point on the Warbird's shielding, thus concentrating the attack.

    Nice rendering and excellent use of music. Well executed, though like many would have liked to see large exchanges of torpedo before the rift.
    Ideal: Enterprise comes out of warp witnessing bombardment of colony. Romulans cloak.
    Enterprise moves over colony and is attacked with shields up. Mixed torpedo and phaser fire damage one warbird though Enterprise is pummeled in return and maneuvers towards pole where launches large barrages of torpedoes and destroys another warbird, though is heavily damaged in return, losing shields with hull breaches. Rift forms from one of the many torpedo explosions, in front of Enterprise as Romulans close in...
    As Enterprise emerges from rift, it takes more hits, though shields are restored and concentrated phaser fire destroys a warbird, though Enterprise shields are again taken down and takes significant damage including loss of first a nacelle and then power and begins to tumble.
    Escape pods are launched towards planet. One warbird moves and retrieves them while another closes in on the wreck, destroyed when it explodes from matter-antimatter explosion...

This just has it magically forming from nothing while the Enterprise is half-heartedly throwing out an occasional shot for fun. How is a Nova supposed to threaten another star system in anything short of a few hundred years if they are VERY close? Not to mention that at those distances the threatening Nova shock wave would have dissipated to such a degree a modern shuttle could handle it never mind a planet! It is just such tripe!

    It's tremendously easy to see why this Video has 1,250,000 views, wow. This is just one of the best stories I've ever seen from a fan team, you all blew it out of the Park. Everything is beyond amazing, the love and huge amount of effort you put in just gushes everywhere. This is one of my favorite STNG stories, they pulled no punches and just knocked it out of the park. It really got "The Borg Treatment" they spent and made it huge. The way you just put together what is a damn good story, it just fills in all the blanks. Great job, I know it's 8 years old but I hope you're still cranking them out. Love to see some 4K.

    Good effects, but the descriptions giving every step of the battle need to be removed. When the Enterprise explodes in a Romulan warbird is cotton explosion, for instance, you don't need a title card that says "the Enterprise was destroyed it took a Romulan warbird with it in its antimatter explosion."
    We _just_ saw that and it slows down the action, better to just show than to over explain.

  • @Quessir

    Great animation, though why it took so long to fire photon torpedoes (and even then, only one volley from the forward launchers, never mind the rear launcher) is puzzling.

      VideoSpaceFX Not so big mystery, and you know it. Shame on you messing with Quessir. The Enterprise C crew maintained the space-time continuum by losing like they were supposed to. But losing with honor.

    • @michaelsaumure7697
      @michaelsaumure7697 Před 9 lety +2

      Quessir Federation Starships only carry a limited number of torpedoes. Photon torpedoes are capable of variable levels of yield according to need and are capable of stripping a vessel of its shields with a single hit at maximum direct yield. The problem there is that, at close range such as this, maximum yield would damage or destroy the firing vessel if it's shields were down. Starfleet policy is to use phasers to strip targets shields before using torpedoes when inside a range of 40km. This extends the use of torpedoes and prevents damage to the firing vessel.
      Also, the Romulans probably targeted the aft torpedo launcher, not hard to find if the Enterprise had its shields down, to prevent them firing.

    • @Quessir
      @Quessir Před 9 lety +4

      Michael Saumure Interesting bit of information, thanks for that. I'm aware that phasers are used to strip shields before the torpedoes can get in there and do real physical damage, but as to the danger to the firing vessel, they needn't have used maximum or even near maximum yield - one torpedo can do massive damage, as we've seen countless times during the shows and films.
      One thing I did note is that the Romulans appear to be firing disruptors only in the animation. Captain Garrett reported that the last thing she remembered was a "fierce volley of photon torpedoes", so the Romulans were apparently able to fire them at such distances, at yields safe to themselves, as the Enterprise surely was capable of (ignoring the rear launcher, which we'll assume is damaged). I only see disruptor fire in the animation.
      One last thing is that torpedoes do great damage to shields themselves. They obviously don't have the precision of phasers, being explosive devices, but explosions in space generally are not a good thing and a single torpedo might have gone a long way.

      But its the sacrifice of the Enterprise C that pivots the Klingons towards the Federation. Perhaps winning wouldn't have been enough, maybe their deaths were needed for that shift in Klingon opinion to happen, for them to view it as honorable.

    • @-caesarian-6078
      @-caesarian-6078 Před 4 lety +3

      I think their sacrifice was necessary, what Kirk would have done is find some way for the containment breach to take out all of the warbirds at once. Perhaps he would plan to escape with his crew at the last second, but failed, leading to the sacrifice of his ship and his crew depicted, and showing both the tactical skills and the bravery of Starfleet, leading to the solidifying of the alliance.

    Dear Romulan ambushers,
    If you're clever enough to sneak up on a renowned Federation starship and disable it without destroying it, you should be clever enough to make sure it's not rigged to blow up with you. You have scanners to analyze what's going on aboard the enemy ship and transporters to send engineers to defuse explosive situations.
    If you need me to explain all of this to you, I hope the Tal Shiar executes all your commanding officers for incompetence, preferably before you can cause more preventable destruction.
    Sincerely,
    Starfleet Admiral FissyQuil

    • @chrismc410
      @chrismc410 Před 5 lety +2

      To be fair, they likely did scan it and detected the explosives and likely realized the fact that any enemy ship captain worth their dilithium would have rigged the ship to explode the moment anyone beamed aboard or tried to enter externally. Even if they got past that, there would most likely be some kind of anti-tamper mechanism that would blow them up the moment they tried to defuse it or go near it.
      The Enterprise-C was going to explode and take as many Romulans with her as possible and nothing was going to stop her. The Romulan captains likely knew that but had to try with Tal Shiar agents aboard. The idea being they MAY die trying to capture Federation secrets and technology, they most certainly WOULD die if they didn't try. Either face Federation booby traps or Tal Shiar disruptors

    • @pwnmeisterage
      @pwnmeisterage Před 5 lety +1

      Maybe Romulan sensor tech was better or worse than its Federation counterparts, we can assume there was an arms race but we don't know who was ahead.
      But 1701-C did have some future-tech upgrades ... plus an officer armed with knowledge, training, and "hindsight" decades ahead of her adversaries ... it seems quite plausible for them to fool Romulan sensors. For comparison, think of modern military stealth systems or computer encryption systems vs their counterparts from the 1990s.
